My grandad lived on little Diomede as an elementary school teacher with my grandmother. He lived there during the cold war era so he had a lot of great stories. He said that he could see soviet spies looking at him if he used binoculars from across the ice, and that the natives sometime traveled across the ice and talked to the Russians, and they would sometime bring messages to each other. There was also once a polar bear that lived underneath the elementary school that needed to be driven out.

how/why do you travel around the world? are you still traveling now?
Yes, I’m still traveling. I was in St. Kitts, Antigua, St. Barth and now in Puerto Rico. Next will be Bolivia. I travel by plane, bus, and hitchhiking. Why? Because I’m curious to visit places I’ve never been to before. New airports, new towns, new islands. I especially like to discover something I’ve never seen before.
Where's the Church?
Good point, I must have overlooked that.
Is there a hotel there ? And how did you get there through plane ?
No hotel. I stayed with a local elder. I got there with Bering Air from Nome.
Greetings from Philadelphia, I’m assuming to go there, you must fly to Alaska. And then another small plane right? How expensive per night is to stay there in just curious?
To fly from Philly, first fly to Anchorage then to Nome then to Little Diomede. The small plane starts in Nome. There are no hotels there. Not sure how much it would be since I had friends there.

You’re welcome. Coming to think about it, your right. Not many tourists come here even though it was high on my list to see this place.
Tem que fazer um documentário, tem muitas histórias nessa ilha.

Why didn't he want to shake your hand?
Maybe he didn’t see the gesture.
