The beginning mess up wasn’t bad at all- but it is almost a blessing hearing greats like these guys mess up every now and then lol. Makes me feel a little better
The huge mistake is to think they never fail, indeed: ua-cam.com/video/LcDkciX-hOY/v-deo.html#t=0m50s
funny thing is I feel like it's the bass player telling chad and randy to slow the fuck down hahahaha
СУПЕР!🎸🎸sleeping joy 🎸спящая радость=
ua-cam.com/video/JDak8YfAPfo/v-deo.html
What did they mess up? Was it Chad rushing?
@@Frygonz I'm just meme'ing, but Randy and Chad were playing the head a little faster than the bass and drummer were keeping time. Funny thing is ,when they play the head again at the end, you can tell how much faster the time sped up anyways
I know Chad took a lot of choruses, but I really appreciated him dipping into the pre-bebop, swing and jump blues styles and developing melodic ideas instead of just shredding double-time lines the whole time. It reminded me of the famous 27 chorus Paul Gonsalves solo on the 1956 Newport version of Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue. Developing ideas and playing the hell out of the blues.
I agree about chad, its the first time i think he tries to make music and not performance and its sounds like a process he is going threw which is a good thing. You can hear that he listened to patrick bartley and that he understands the place he is at, that is a place of true jazz, a place with tradition that doesnt mind how famous you are but what youve gotta say
@@alonle02 Just because someone’s playing doesn’t sound melodically logic to you doesn’t mean it’s not melodic in general. Chad has always been melodic just in his own way. Also please stop with the “true jazz”.
His ideas and lines are tasty AF, but he uses way too much tongue here, it sounds, at times, beginnerish.
@@Vanamutt I don't think you can label preference of articulation to someone's skill level, since articulation in jazz is a very subjective thing. More about how well the player can convey their choice in articulation.
@@kennethreed8746 I didn't equate his tongueing to his skill level(which is really high). Just said he tongued way too much for my liking, and probably to the liking of most people.
Chad being a typical sax player taking all the choruses. Can't be mad because it was straight 🔥🔥🔥
LMAOOO love that. “Takes all the choruses”
he's literally a chad
Thats what Chads do
The first chorus on Chads solo is great for begginers for transcribing . Simple, really cohesive, and really tastefull.
You’re joking
@@kellershea3885not at all. It's still a good Challenge but totally possible
Emmet’s command of the entire language is insane
Yes!
Chad plays one of those solos where is you close your eyes and scat a solo yourself it’s exactly where you would go vocally. Just perfect melodically all the way and a fabulous tribute to bop, pre-bop and swing all rolled into one.
That's a trait we all strive for
Mmm lil not smooth to me
I came for the trumpet and saxophone, but that piano playing was truly the thing that amazed me most
Love to see Randy's enjoyment. Chad is amazing and all of the band is great. Emmet style is so cool, that solo was on fire.
Randy has that same gentle , humble and supportive demeanor that Joe Diorio has when playing with the younger generation ..Jazz will live forever ….🙏🙏🙏
Chads solo was burning! Amazing how he can handle multiple jazz languages and make sense of it: swing style, bebop, contemporary...
Its called compartmentalizing
Amazing as always. Never heard anything like that really cool piano line at 9:33
I gotta say Emmet's solo is the most in innovative thing I've ever heard .
pretty amazing!
you're not wrong
what?
@@km6206 it’s not hard to understand
This is probably the slowest I've heard Chad playing in his solo.
Love the Stride intro to Emmet's solo, the solo itself was dope. And Chad's and Randy were killing too.
what the fuck man...!!! this shit is tremendous and i love it. easily one of my favorite chad lb recordings of all time. and emmet too man, everybody here is just pure soul.I love this band
on god
Fantastic! Emmett - Did you plan the stride bit or was it spontaneous inspiration? And the tempo change? Spontaneous or planned?
He does stride and tempo changes fairly often.... I'd guess it's spontaneous.
Randy the faux brow wipe is pure class ! 😆 Much respect and admiration from a fellow trumpeter 👍🏻
Also some fine sax playing, bro!
Kudos and thanks for posting
the way it ended nearly twice the speed at the end 🔥
Anyone notice Randy's facial expressions for Emmet's solo, How passionate is he? Lovely Musician
Randy - your articulation is astoundingly brilliant - wow!
Ahaha i saw randy and without seeing the title i said "is that Randy? crazy" glad to see youve got some old cats playing at ep
Quand un musicien comme Randy Brecker te regarde comme ça, c'est que tu as atteint un sacré niveau😎😎😎
An outstanding lineup here - and as always, the talent of each is only exceeded by the joy and graciousness of the performers as they bring out the best in each other 💖🎶🎵
I love when Chad doesn't play too fast ... really when can listen to these great ideas and phrasing ... and learn about them !
Emmets comping is so good- the way he comments on everything Randy says - filling in the gaps and conversing w the trumpet is so nice
Segura este homem, os homens são iguais, mais alguns são músicos
I think that the most underappreciated part of Chad's solo was the standing tenor yoga
When Randy Brecker & the rest of the fellas are totally digging your long ass choruses you aiight.
what the hell happened at the beginning lol, love the look between Kyle and Yasushi
Even the best sometimes make mistakes lol!!
Believe it or not, they're human.
yasushi was hittin 1, the "and" of 1 and the "and" of 2 but chad thought he was dictating the "ands" as the new time and adjusted so they flipped the beat for a sec LOL
Best tone I’ve ever heard you have, Chad.
Oongawa (however it's spelled) !!!!! I don't think humans have a capability of taking it out any further !!!! This IZZZZ JAZZZZZ !!! Like WOW !!
Everyone was still a little hungover at the beginning but things settled lol
I can't express in words how good this is...
You could watch this video on mute and still tell how sick these players are simply by looking at Randy's face.
1:44 that look when you are digging in the tune
I knew that trumpet player was gonna be a problem cuz when that sax was going, he was fingering notes as he was bobbing to the music. 😂
Wow, Emmet going into stride style there, just wow!
Randy Breckers solo!!! :D
The stride solo. Niiiiiiice!!!
BRUHHHH emmet’s airegin quote at 9:24 is too damn good
Love that Airegin quote at 09:23
Agreed!
insane Soloooo Emmet
Charlie Parker once said that anything beyond 4 choruses and you're simply practising.
He was killing it though 😅
Sometimes you just have a lot of ideas.
That only works if the audience doesn't get bored listening to one instrument playing endlessly with no melodic lines. I once read a report where, at a Jazz Festival in France, John Coltrane played just one number throughout a 45 minute slot. I wonder how many people in the audience stayed with that.
emmets solo sounding like art tatum, charlie parker, and miles all on one piano
Hahaha the beginning, but so nice hahhj i like in that record the way of Chad attack the mpc, so hard
Ребята, вы прекрасны!!!!! Смотрю вас из России постоянно! Спасибо за ваше творчество. Это очень вдохновляет! Вы дарите светлые чувства, море позитива и энергии!
very emotional❤ 素晴らしい!
Don't know why on earth some people are looking for faults here. It's just truly great players playing the hell out of the music and great to have the space to show they have it all.
When you know nothing it's easy to be impressed by everything. When you have more knowledge it's easier to notice the faults. But when you have wisdom, you choose to notice what is good. Lot of guys with more knowledge than beginners, but less wisdom than professionals.
@@Nn-uh2kb well said. 👍
@@Nn-uh2kb very true!
@@Nn-uh2kb nice quote!
Emmet’s comping is also incredible!
Anyone else hearin the redman
2:45
Anyone else recognize this from the Pat Bartley solo on After You've Gone?
Yeah if you listen to Chad and Patrick a lot, you can tell they always take inspiration from each other
Emmet thank you for the music!
Quel solo de chad , magnifique 🙂↕️✨
Chad
💥💣🎹7.42 - 9.58 ... Perfect! Ingeniously!
Poxa, mestre Randy brecker. Show 1000
Donna Lee. Still a flag bearer for modernism. Heard Chris Potter solo Confirmation and recall dear old Lennie Tristano and Lee Konitz struggling a little - not fatally thr Sing-Sing sessions with Donna Lee resulting in a kind of (intended/unintended) rubato close out. Sax here not my cup of tea.
emmet is fantastic
Randy be like ‘this cat’s coming with me’
Bravissimi. can i play with you?
uff the start
Hey, how long did it take you to learn this? Also, how long have you been playing the sax Emmet?
emmett is the piano player. chad lb is the saxophone player.
Probably 0 years, because he is a pianist...
i like how chad quoted here and there pat bartley's solo on after you've gone
7:58 Randy Brecker has the appropriate reaction to the average Emmet Cohen solo.
Some of his motifs sounded like patrick bartley's solo on after you've gone
That was so much fun! Just not sure if the bebop police will approve...
Emmit wow!
Ridiculous piano interlude...
I want to have children with Chad's phrasing...
Guess I'll have to make it back home to Indiana...
Years later and i’m just now noticing emmet had his eyes closed the whole solo
randy just there vibin
'Bird' approves.
3:14 if you listen closely, you can hear the Darth Maul Song.
Man what a fucking set! Those guys tore it up!
What I love about emmet cohen’s place is the fact that everyone melds together in a way that makes the tune sound exactly like how it should be played in my ears. That to me (my opinion) is peak perfection of Jazz cohesiveness and music
The airegin reference in Emmett's solo was really great and fit right in there
Immenso musicista. Grazie per questo bel video.
Spectacular!!!!!!! Really transports me to back in the day 🌅
great music ! grazie mille .
Brilliant. Piano solo was great. Loved the transition between all the different genres of jazz. Like a tribute solo or something
instant click
Airegin is quoted by the piano at the intro verse as well (not only later on). Super cool.
Baddest jazz cats today
chad you play on a harder reed. btw you are a beast
3:19 I Love this phrase !!!
3:45 And also this!! I realy love it !!
Jazz is very much alive❤
Best hidden gem is that remember quote at 2:53
8:09 bro started going dixieland on us
That airegin quote was very fun
Is that the end of section to the bring back was nice
Awesome... tempo going out was a lot faster than coming in!🙂
wow! Chad you are something else!
What happened in the first measure lol
i think yasushi was a beat off, came in on beat 2 with the melody (instead of beat 1). But what's a beat off among friends?
Basically the pianist wishes he was Tete Montoliu
Absolute fire 🔥
1.25 sounds better
У Эммета штаны военного времени!..
Are they Salah and Cantona?
