Thanks for sharing! .. I watched it live and have been searching for a recording of the whole thing since .. It was an amazing ~90mins of musical improvisation, collaboration and sheer fun .. Please post more clips if you have them!
A mão esquerda do cory é como se fosse um outro pedaço da mente dele que já tem total domínio e só se preocupa com a direita kkkkk bizarro esse caraaaaaa
FUCK. Cory’s playing, man. Those voicings are a combination of gorgeous and delicious. He’s a total monster. It just looks effortless for him. Playing this tune takes the lion’s share of my focus and mental acuity. Everything for him is like water rolling off a rock. No big thing. I actually find it almost upsetting how perfect his playing is.
The hardest thing to do for the newer generation of players is to play bebop or swing and not to revert to playing “out” as an escape - meaning you don’t have the language under your fingers so you play “out” as a means to cope with your lack of language
i feel exposed lol but yeah, playing jazz in this day and age means playing within a certain context that is a lot more open to dissonance and 'out' playing. young cats who play out do so not just because they are not as good as the old ones. they just dont feel too compelled to play 'in' all the time. bird and all the old cats play 'straight' just because that's what they think is hip. but in the ears of the cats older than them, the stuff that bird and all them bebop guys were too 'out'
I just bought a lottery tickett...you know ..mwaaa maybe I win the big one... hahaha...I gotta have a dream..come on....yup I dream I can play piano like Cory...
From what I remember when I watched the stream live on Corey's Twitch they started talkin about how Cory mixes genres together (gospel jazz,RnB etc) to create his sound and all his musical influences
The craziest part of this recording is that each time a notification comes up Cory looks up like something’s going on
and keeps playing
the metaverse is combing with reality and hes reading the notifications
Haha.... brilliant comment
HAHAHAHA
social media generation.... nice to see he is 100% involved in the music he is playing and not distracted...
0:30 It's like Cory Henry saw the notification and was not happy about it.
Masterclass
Arturo Sandoval has been a monster for over 60 years. Heck of a piano player himself. Love Cory Henry.
Arturo even plays the piano? Sick haha
This is pure magic!
The skat singing section ahhhh I love it
Ever increasing Respect for Cory. A masterclassman.
