Glad to see you getting into powered ascenders ..They really are a great piece of kit once you understand their limitations and uses. They will become a workhorse in your toolbox.
I’ve had great experiences with their customer service as well. They FaceTimed my crew while we were on a job so we could trouble shoot what we were doing wrong and why we were having issues with our Ronin.
@@peterkapunkt6783 no. The ropes we were using had sheaths that were fraying and causing fibers to build up inside the ronin and clogging the mechanism. Easy enough fox to open the unit and pick out the fiber nests.
Wish I could have seen this before we used ours for the first time. Even with approved ropes with a proper end the rope can still be super tricky to load. Once they’re set up they’re super nice. We did use them on towers in cold weather and we were only getting about 300’ out of the battery in those cases, but in warmer weather they definitely can get more.
I like all this industrial content, it’s awesome 👍🏼👍🏼. In the EU we mostly use this Skylotec Actsafe winches. One of the best inventions haha. Comes with a remote control as well. Very versatile and not having to do multiple 50 meter climbs per day means less fatigue and safer work. Curious on what the next doe access content will be👊🏼👊🏼
I've used one of those electric ascenders, they're lethal. I foolishly used it without a seperate safety line, you have to be constantly watching them.
Wow! This seems like a really awkward piece of equipment compared to the ones we use in Norway.. no need to pull all the rope through, just slide it in from the side 😅
Maybe you want to look at the act safe rope moped, or power acender. I use them at work and seems simpler then this one. Dont have to tread the rope and it goes over a wheel with a V in it. Expencive tho!
This looks like a great tool , and it does have a lot of potential . The downside is perhaps that the rope is getting more wear and people are going to take more challenging situations . Also people get tempted to do all the things you are not supposed to do in any circumstance. But it's sport and you're not suppose to do that
Do you have a video of a break test of a BHK? SPRAT guy learning how to climb and needing some additional info on the strength of all these overhand knots everyone uses.
Ronin would probably do well to put a warning that says their rope or approved listed ropes will not shear under the Ronin in normal operating conditions. That you have to know this or look deeply on their site is kind of a disservice. Yes this is a nice tool that you are in a profession that requires this, but that units seem to be damaged regularly is a sign information is not being shared properly in the industry.
No not really. I work in construction. Same types of guys that do Rope Access. They will break anything and everything regardless of the number of stickers, warnings or safety meetings. No offense to those guys. It's really hard to make "boring information" something they will pay attention to. You are also, to a degree, supposed to be a professional which implies knowing how to use the equipment you're using.
One of the last companies I was with owned two of these.. and REFUSED to use them. Irritated me to no end knowing I could rig a backup line should anything fail and we could just send 1 climber per tower to rig for the work and never manually climb again.. Needless to say I left that company because their 34 year old market director ran it into the ground with toys we weren't allowed to use.
I wonder why the driveshaft has to have teeth on it we have arborist winches at work that are the same concept as this but the shaft the rope is wound around is smooth and still creates more than enough friction.
I was thinking exactly the same thing, having recently bought a PWC battery winch. Three or four winds of the rope around its smooth capstan provide enough friction to winch up to a tonne, and the only requirement is double-braid sheath, rather than an "approved list" of ropes. I don't really like the idea of even relatively smooth teeth repeatedly compressing the rope .
Couldn't you just put an ascender above the Ronin on the Ronin rope and have a lanyard to your saddle? Would eliminate the silly second tie in. The Ronin would advance the ascender. If rope was severed it would take affect.
no it just means it cant be the only device supporting you :) like in the video as an industrial user you have to have the other rope with Asap or something similar
Extremely informative. I can see the likelihood of where some spending other’s money / with more money then brains could end up in sh*t, akin to operating fast cars, etc.
I'm only a third of the way through and I'm finding that all the issues a person can have with it kinda display a real failure of product design. A product should be designed to make it hard to use it incorrectly. A simple example is that battery lead point. That should be inset into the body so it is not confused with a rigging point. Better yet, it should come with a safety lead so people see before they even use the device what it's for and how to use it. Seriously, thing thing is just an example of horrible product design
Nah. It's an industrial product, that's means to be used by trained individuals. Of industrial equipment had to have all of those features, it would be prohibitive. That's the problem with the stuff here in the EU. Everything is so regulated and nanny state driven, that work gets done about 3x slower than in the US, and it costs about 5x as much. It's not a consumer product, and if someone doesn't read the manual and misuses it, tough. That's their fault and their problem. If you're too dumb to know that the type of rope is important, or where the rated tie points are, you shouldn't be using it.
"How heavy is this?" "25" 25 what? Pounds, I'm guessing - but the rest of the world doesn't automatically assume that. Also, "down is up, and up is nothing" doesn't seem very intuitive!
I feel like they should have made the battery cliping point a different color or something from the regular one... It looks way too similar to the regular one and is in a very similar position. Or even a different shape, make one round and the other one square. Many options.
Check out our new store! hownot2.store/

But where is the Bat-Man powered ascender!? That’s the rig we NEED.
@@AZDesertExplorer lol that would be dope!!
What are it's limitations? If you don't mind me asking.
@@AZDesertExplorer It can be done. The motors will just reflect that cost, which will be one heck of a lot.
@@AZDesertExplorer check out the hacksmith, he's done one! Not retail ready but yea possible.
I’ve had great experiences with their customer service as well. They FaceTimed my crew while we were on a job so we could trouble shoot what we were doing wrong and why we were having issues with our Ronin.
Was it because you fed a garbage bag into it?

I’ve seen a few Ronin demos in person & online, this is by far the best. Thanks!

Sweet new video! Cant wait for the arborist content!

Love the "children playing" sign on the background, it is so true ;c)
Great content! You should try the RAPTOR Ryan it's powered by a 2 stroke engine very reliable. it's like an hybrid between the Ronin and a chainsaw.
Love the channel man keep it up!!!
A buddy of mine purchased one of these, used all compliment ropes and the Ronan failed on multiple critical aspects within 3 weeks of limited use!
Imagine just casually top roping a big wall with this thing:)
when two or more men are gathered around a nice bit of kit, they just have to keep a hand on it lol 3:39
They have gas 2 stroke ones for arborist work
So, as an arborist it would be a great idea to use this on sap covered ropes.
4.5 Hp in a motor that size, wow. That's gotta be some serious amps coming out of those batteries. Amazing.
Can you recharge the battery while going down?!
That sounds like it would be cool feature to me?

Listening on headphones, some people talking way in the background audio I thought someone was in my house lol I'm fine I didn't panic it's fine 💀
Cool piece of kit!
Love your channel. Been a while for me. I must have miss it, but congratulations on the 100k subscribers.
So basically its a capstan winch with an internal rope guide?
Am I the only one singing "I'm a little teapot" in their head now after the display of where the handle and spout are on the ascender?
I really like your channel and you're probably saving more lives than you will ever know...
I'd like to see how to properly change the battery while you still loaded the Ronin.

When you go down, does the back driven motor charge the battery?
would be good if it was regenrative

Yeah but how do the ropes get up there in the 1st place?
Ryan, please go and do some IRATA training!

@@nekoroms This video was shortly after a SPRAT certified video. Always two rated tiein points.
Awesome video!
If it only had a bit of regen on the way down ;) maybe +5-10% charge so it doesn't take you all day.
Does this recharge when you descend?
That would be cool
Skylotec Actsafe ACX does
Very cool!
Extremely informative.

This is freakin cool
Everything is a smoke machine if used improperly enough
Eu estou usando um desse é é muito bom
Just found your channel recently! Would love to collab for some caving or other adventures if you're down! Let me know!
I knew this looked like WA. Not too far from me, very cool.
how do you pass a knot?
You don't.
Km3max 32 strand 10-13mm will only work. Gotta use this or it wont work
Spot the Californian (hint: its the guy wearing a gigantic puffy).
Couldn’t you just use a winch with a remote for much cheaper?
I saw one of these used on an offshore project by DSL. It didn’t work well but that was due to an idiot climbing supervisor.
Motorized Ascent Device
M.A.D
Now that's a puffy jacket.
Ronin lifts require special treatment, and should not be used by most climbers. We tend to abuse our gear in tree work.
Well that would have been easier than jugging up roulette. 😉
Get an Actsafe instead.
Break test them
Depends on how cold.
Let’s say 32deg
Well depends…
lol
Reminds me of a tesla turbine but for rope
Myth busters did this.

why isn’t this an ice screw break test? 😔

"25"

So this device fucking sucks then is what you're telling me
I'm just going to geuss that the guy who owns the device doesn't want us to break it ... please break test it ? How many likes would that take??? 🤔
They probably say don’t open because it’s a simple design and they don’t want you to realize you over paid
Read the instructions...shocking...novel advice
Piece of junk they weigh a ton and are no where as good as the drill powered ascender you sell
lol..why are you so awkward in this one? You have this look of constant concern or something on your face, idk what it is.
ohhhhhhhhhhhh lol
if you want to buy a used 3 times ronin check this video outt!!!!
