My boys and I started with a Camp Druid descender, CT Quick Roll hand ascender and foot loop. Got us all in the trees quickly and easily last year. Boys were 8 and 10 - they still use this method but now use a Petzl Rig as it handles bigger rope better. I quickly realized it was too inefficient for me so I promptly bought a Notch Jet Step and Rope Runner Pro. I initially struggled with the RR Pro and so I went to a Unicender from Richard Mumford. Much better for a beginner as the Unicender just works. It even works well when rope walking without a knee ascender which is replaced with a foot loop. The Petzl Adjust makes an excellent adjustable foot loop.
WARNING: Do NOT start climbing with assenders by yourself .If you don't have an experienced instructor, then at least you need a safety man and do NOT go high. Stay low as you might get your assender stuck with your knee above your head almost upside-down ! .....I highly suggest you get the Notch Jet Step dual cam foot assender it's super smooth and easy to get the rope in & out. ....The HAAS knees assender bungee length & tension must be adjusted through experimenting & readjusting it to fit your height / length. Even the bridge ( green rope ) on his saddle must be fine-tuned to fit his body height. Basically, everything is not just plug & play. It all has to be fine-tuned to fit your body height / length.
ever seen the notch adapted into a knee ascender? looks to me like the lower strap attachment points may be too forward and “in line” with the path of the rope, and wouldn’t work well rigged vertically / in-line as a knee ascender? may cause the straps to push the rope out under tension? croll, pantin, the ct etc have strap attachment that’s more behind the rope allowing the rope to flow without obstruction. just looking for any info about the jet step in that role - i love it for a foot ascender but don’t want to shell out the cash on a second if it’s _known_ by others to not be adaptable to the job. EDIT: i get that my question sounds negative but i’m really hoping for a positive answer. i love the jet step and would be awesome to know if it’s been done and worked well..
@@kyleschustyk5612 Get a Camp Turbochest ascender if you want to make your own knee ascender. Easy cord/bungee attachment. I like the Notch Jet Step but it would be much more difficult to attach to as a knee ascender. That and it is more bulky as compared to the Turbochest. Monkey Beaver sells a "knee ascender kit" which is just the Camp Turbochest plus rope/bungee, carabiners and foot stirrup.
@@kyleschustyk5612 You don't have to use a knee ascender to rope walk. You only need a foot loop on the foot opposite of your foot ascender. Connect it to your main ascender. Works well with my Unicender. Not as good with my Rope Runner Pro but it does work.
@@boomupengineering yeah i hear ya. the stride on that foot tends to not be quite as efficient but it works plenty fine if one doesn’t have a knee ascender at all. im only looking for experience with the notch because i like the idea of the opposing cams versus the teeth on every other single cam foot/chest ascender used for the job.
Nice. I have a few trees in my backyard I am aspiring to cut myself. Each tree has its own set of concerns, challanges, and issues. I am a brand new baby!!!! Never did this sort of thing before.
It may be very uncomfortable if worn under the spurs. Some have worn it over the spurs, however it may slack out and move freely on the shank of the spur.

What kind of glasses do you have on?
Abdon is wearing Heatwaves, which are Z87+.
Do the teeth on the cam damage your rope overtime?
It may damage the rope over time, especially when technique is thrown out the window.
Can the turbofoot be worn over or underneath spurs?
It may be very uncomfortable if worn under the spurs. Some have worn it over the spurs, however it may slack out and move freely on the shank of the spur.
