My own personal collection consists of 7 Percy models as well. The 1985 Percy, 1985 Percy with Annie and Clarabel, 1990 Percy, 1993 Pullback Percy, 1998 Metallic Percy, my custom chocolate covered Percy, and of course my RWS Percy.
It's incredible how simple some of these changes are in theory, but the difference they make in practice is absolutely striking. The black on the springs and actually painting the footplate instead of the red brick ERTL shipped them with are excellent on their own (and I imagine a right pain in the bunker to do), but to me the biggest and most appealing change is actually painting the stripes on the engines; this has bothered me for nearly three decades and seeing it actually done really completes the transformation. Now to ponder for my own purpose how best to create a set of working side rods...
I just used water since it's a water based acrylic paint, but I think a lot of people would tell you to use acrylic thinners instead. Like I mention in the video, the paint on this really smoothed out after the clear coat was applied. Not sure why it does that, but it works and that's all that matters.
While this is mostly a simple repaint, it really does look quite sharp! Well done on this my man! P.S: I recognize that Mercedes that you used as an example. So you've gotten to work on the bright yellow Corgi Junior, huh?.... And OOF, my horrible repaint job of Diesel 10 XD
question, do you know how you could do the running board without getting the details messed up? I’m trying to make a RWS take and play James model but it’s hard to give them the black running board without messing up his splashers
@@radiomonkeyhunter The best method and what I always do is to just take the model apart to paint it. If you don't want to or can't do that, then your only other options are to either mask everything off or have a very steady hand and a fine brush to paint around everything.
Currently been doing a lot of writing for it, but have not had time to actually put anything together. Hoping to at least get a short video made here before the year is out, but it just depends if I get around to it.
Hurricane is definitely one I want to tackle since I have Frankie, but no idea where to go with Merlin or if I'll even attempt a custom of him. Time will tell.
Great video. Yes we would like to see more
Honestly, the John T. Kenny illustrations of Percy are much better. Percy looks like his TVs form just with a black running board and silver buffers.
Yeah, I've definitely grown on the look myself. Don't get me wrong, I still like Clive Spong's illustrations, but they don't suit this model.
As a fellow modeller of RWS I know how fun it is to model these, this is AWESOME! Incredible job!
Thank you very much!
@@PlowBenderStudios Wanted to mention I actually bought that bachmann Thomas shell from you on eBay...
Good to know someone got some use out of it.
I have my own ertl collection . And it’s true . I got 7 Percy models including a paper face one .
Your right they’re everywhere

Love love LOVE this custom, could you do Boco next?
I'm not sure about doing a video on Boco as there wouldn't be a whole lot to cover in that, which would make for a very short video.
I'd love to see more videos like this!
Amazing work!
Amazing video keep up the good work and remember don't have a good day have a great day
I loved how you made rws percy and yes, I wanna see more of how you made your ertl customs!!!

that looks very nice good job !
Nicely done mate 👍
great model
I Fixed My Track Master James!🥳🎉
The overall result looks so smooth and neat. What did you use to thin down the paint? Enamel thinner? Water?

Yeah, quite a few of your things make appearances in this video. Sorry I had to use your poor painting skills as an example...
@@PlowBenderStudios It's fine, it WAS terrible, especially considering I used paint pens rather than a brush on that thing
Eh, we all have to start somewhere I guess.

Please can you show your Ertl nia and frankie custom s?
Nia is definitely one I plan to cover in future, as that was quite the undertaking to make that model.
3:38 what brand of caboose was that and what are you gonna use it for?
It's just some cheap pull back one that I got in a fan mail unboxing. I've seen the same one as a pencil sharpener.
I have a question is tales on farm on the farm making a come out I been watching this series since 2010

I can help I am involved with other three projects that I am in and I can voice act
I want you to try make an ertl Merlin and hurricane

@@PlowBenderStudios well you could modify an ertl Gordon
Bro what shade of green you used
Tamiya X-28 Park Green.
@@PlowBenderStudios how to make it in acyrclic paint
@@gordonline6942 I'd say just got out and buy the Tamiya paint. It's water based acrylic paint so it's easy to use and clean up afterward.
K uh where you got it
@@gordonline6942 I purchased mine from eBay, but you could also try your local hobby shop.
