Look up the YF-23 Black Widow. Was better then the F-22 Raptor but politics got in the way and sadly never got made.

Remarkable in every way. You would think the Airforce would revisit this concept in their current pursuit of a light CAS & Counter Insurgencey aircraft instead of the Super Tacanno.

Awesome Attack Helicopter! You can see both the Cobra and Apache's lineage in the Cheyenne.

Love the very "scientific" testing performed at 7:41.

remarkable. People should try making realistic helis in video games such as beseiged. It shows how hard this stuff was and really helps people realize the innovation that happens

You can actually build pretty realistic performing helicopters in DreamCarBuilder :)

The Cheyenne missile system missed on the day that would decide if the program would Continue.

Rande Ashley still it is a shame that such research and days of development never really got used.

@@randeashley2541Absolutely right. Both aircraft would have been useful. Shortsightedness and interservice rivalry obscured that fact.

My guess is the miltary thought losing 1 aircraft that's cost three times the cost of four aircraft was too much .

Replacing Cheyenne with Cobra was like replacing the F4 Phantom with with a P-40. What a waste. Another time when politcs hamstrings defense.

The stuff our military doesnt use and tossed out, can still be the most superior. The Northrop YF-23 wasnt better then then F22 Raptor but didnt get made, the AH56 Cheyenne, like talk about top shit that never got made.

A sad tale of something just too ahead of its time.

Lol why would they put people on the pylons when testing center of gravity differences?? Wouldn't weights be just as effective without endangering another person in case of mechanical failure....?

All in all it was better than anything out there in every way but in reality it was Lockheed’s constant greed that killed it. They do this all the time, get the project done and well for the original price and then update something and triple the cost to make a killing off the militaru. They did this on the USS Zumwalt too, the stealth destroyer , the US wanted to build 300 but the cost multiplied almost 6 times what they originally said to where the government cut it to 3 ships and then concealed the program , even after seeing the amazing capability and advances. Damn the defense contractor!’!! People think the Zumwalt failed but it didn’t, it actually succeeded in every aspect and blew away the government but fundiBy has to be approved and you can’t blow the budget by 6 times and still go. It’s not blown for reality , they built it on budget but build in their profits that are so insanely huge it’s jsut disgusting!!!! In the end they screw themselves!!! They could have had a contract for 300 ,...1 billion dollar ships, made amazing money creating tons of jobs and building g the best destroyer ever but greed got it concelled and all those jobs and money and security are gone ! Fucking dumb Asses!!!! and the funny thing is it looks nearly identical to the new Soviet attack helicopter , is it the aligator? The push rotor , wings, in-line x2 seating, rotating gun turned by helmet, etc etc. and looking at the A Army’s last contest that look just like this too , it’s cleAr it needed to come to fruition and is now. The Cheyenne was faster, more stable with the gyroscope rotor, had an amazing computer that could hit a 10 inch target from 3 miles from the mini gun even during maneuvers , 250mph , both pilot and gunner could fire weapons at the same time. It was exactly what then needed but greed killed them. The single tow missile miss was jsut an excuse, the Huey had reliability and love from the military and the high ups that loved them now had a literal Huey that was a gun ship too , didnt have the speed , agility, stability , any of the weapons systems of the Cheyenne , painfully in accurate gun where the Cheyenne’s fan hit a 10 inch target from 3 miles while maneuvering, but the Huey was also so cheap because they were using the unlimited stockpile of retired hueys to retrofit them to build the cobra. It wasn’t any of that tho, this same company does this in every damn project, they meet the budget for prototype because it’s realistic and then they get the high ups all excited and then they make a couple tiny updates and software is always one and then TRIPLE their per unit cost!!! They swear on all that it’s just what it is now because of software and hold to that hoping their so in love with the project that they’ll say ok and if they do, they get insane profits per unit built. But often the military gets so damn pissed at a 3x budget they ditch and projects done. It disgusts me they do this, all defense system contractors do though, except for Oshkosh defense, their a patriot company that believes in not profiting highly off the military , their vehicles have been even lower cost wise than anyone expected .
