I hear you. We have always got to remember that the ‘groove needs to be mighty’ at ALL times 😃 so if it’s not swinging because of your articulation then you either need to change it or practice it. I’m guessing now.. but, work on your single tongue to get it as fast as you can ( maybe you could go faster with yours) so that when you eventually use ‘doodle’ the 8th notes will be straighter and you don’t have to swing them as hard ( if that makes sense?). The hardest tempo to doodle is not super fast for me.. it’s the tempo just above my fastest single tongue. That’s the hard bit. In this situation.. i practice alternating different phrases/swapping within a phrase between single and doodle
thanks@@BarnabyDickinson , it looks that I am 'swinging too much', which to me it's a nonsense or maybe only a stylistic choice... but the input comes from a very valuable musician, so I cannot ignore it :-) ...yes, practice is always the key :-) I'll get back to the single tonguing and work on a better mix of the 2 alternatives. I will dig into that. thanks!
