- This is the first of many for the upcoming Repair Series I’ll be adding to my channel which will include proper cleaning techniques & the repairing/ rebuilding of Postwar Lionel Trains & Accessories.
The 624 was a simple breakdown & deep cleaning. Not one thing was wrong w/ it other than the rear bulb was burnt out.
One thing I forgot to add is that I only use dawn dish soap & warm/ hot water & a paintbrush & toothbrush to clean the cab off with. I’d never use anything but this method, & I’ve cleaned lots of my stock thus far without damage.
If anyone ever has any questions, please feel free to ask & I’ll do my best to reply in a timely manner.
Hope this may be of help to some of Y’all.
Thanks so much for Watching...
& Happy Railroading Everyone!
I would call that an overhaul. Nice work and filming.
Appreciate it Lance, Thank You Sir!
The 624 is one of my favorite engines. My very first train was a 624. This is a great video. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it Gfw Trains!
Again ,nice restoration . Yes i have two 623 and they run perfectly . Nothing beat the old lionel trains of the 40's and 50's an especialy thoses
switchers with die cast frame , they are the best .
Nice job! Sounds wonderful.
Enjoy!
great job.
Those are awesome switchers! I have a review on mine coming out at 4:00pm. I had to completely restore mine. Awesome Video!
Nice C&O
Nice job! I just love my Lionel trains, and the history. I wonder if there is a need for people like you to fix and service this units. This might be my new side job business when I’m not working on cars for a living.
Nice GG1! I have one just like it.
Had to spend a day on it only to find out that I can’t use it on my regular layout because the curves are too sharp.
I’ll have to make a separate track just for it.
Bummer. I'm running 0-27 myself and have to watch what I buy. Love my 624. Love the buzz of those E Units! Music!
My similar switcher, I noticed the pickups sparking and noticed the roller were worn to the point where their frame is touching the track.
Can the rollers be replaced?
Great Video. Just went thru grandfathers boxes and discovered this loco. Put it on a track and it ran after being packed for almost 40 years. Could I ask how do you remove the shell? I see a broken black wire on the rear truck coupler that goes to a coil area like yours in the video and not sure what it is but would like to fix it.
When are you going to post the GG-1 coupler repair, or have you done so already? Thanks!
Ultrasonic jewelry cleaner works great
Looks great! Will pennzoil work too?
I've never seen anyone soak it in mineral spirits before. Will it damage it?
Windows Dylan Nope dissolves old lubricants leaves gears etc, clean and ready for relive.
I'm a new b to all this stuff. I have a question if any one cares to answer it. For cleaning like this could a sonic cleaner do
for this?
Tip in alcohol use as many till clean buff w cloth
I mean, it's a switcher unit, looks like the real thing, with the ba get up paint.🤷♂️
