@@HillTopTerebi The name “Egg-0-Matic” is prevalent in Western Sonic Media; personally, “Egg-0-Matic” sounds cooler. In AoStH, the machine’s name is extended to “Egg-0-Matic Hovercraft”, most likely because Robotnik ends up making machines with the same “Egg-0-Matic” suffix, like “Egg-0-Matic Forcefield”, “Egg-0-Matic Motorcycles”, or even the “Egg-0-Matic Tunnelizer and Town Terrorizer”, the last one sharing a similar design to the Egg Drill from Sonic 3, even so far as predating Sonic 3 (same goes for Tails’ use of giving Sonic a lift in a few episodes, which, like the Egg-Drill, wouldn’t be a thing in the games until Sonic 3). Also, if Coconuts’ dialogue implies something that was cut, maybe he was gonna poison Sonic before Tails noticed the smell (Tails being of the Caninae sub-family). BTW, for a name like Grounder, the people making that cartoon would’ve known the name would imply that he’s a mole robot (like Burrobot), but they didn’t. Grounder doesn’t even use his hand drills for the purpose of burrowing or surprise attack Sonic; in fact, in a later episode, Tails was the one using Grounder for the intentional purpose of his hands, by torturing the Eggman. Another thing: AoStH Sonic being a “thirsty boy” would count as canon, because the “Sonic the Hedgehog Technical Files” stated that Sonic is a self-proclaimed ladies man, except when girls chase after him (kinda like when Pepe Le Pew gets a taste of his own medicine). You did manage to say the abridged name correct once in this video, there are 5 S’s followed up with “Squad”, because they’re the “Super Special Sonic Search and Smash Squad”. Two more things. 1. Do you know the opening scene of the episode, where Sonic and Tails were running across the plains, is actually lifted directly from the first Roadrunner short? Specifically, the part where Wile E. Coyote runs down the Canyon to get the Road Runner (Look up "Gilition Fast and Furry-ous Sonic" to see the comparison). 2. Are you gonna go by the episode order from Shout’s DVD release, where “Hero of the Year” is chosen as the last episode (not only because it’s a clipshow, but because it was the last one aired)?
Very brave from you to rank the entire show. It was the first Sonic cartoon I ever saw. In Germany it was called Sonic, der irre Igel, that you can translate as Sonic the crazy hedgehog, which, in my eyes, is the better name for the show. The ironic is tat a few years ago I saw the entire show in English on the net, but maybe just two episodes in German in bad quality. So ether the German version was destroyed or locked up after the air-time, that no one ever could see this in Germany again. It´s of course not the best Sonic show, but back then I enjoyed it every Saturday.
Thanks for your comment. I didn't know it had a different title in Germany. It definitely fits the show better I think, and it distinguishes it from regular, non-crazy Sonic. 'Sonic the Crazy Hedgehog'... I like it! Haha thank you btw - it may be more foolish thank brave to rank the entire show. I wonder how far in I'll get before I start losing my sanity? 😅 Thank you for watching!
@@Egg-enjoyer Awesome! I look forward to reading them! Thank you for watching! (Next AoStH video will be up next week sometime - unless something goes wrong.)
Thank you. I will definitely keep going. All 66(?) episodes! I think episodes like this one work okay, but from what I remember it really does descend into absolute nonsense at some points hahaha. Although I am looking forward to seeing just how silly it gets. It's been a very long time since I sat down and watched the show properly... my memory is quite hazy. Thank you for watching!
What makes this show feel so surreal is the minimalist 90's backgrounds that worked so well in shows like Rocko's Modern Life; but just do not work at all here. Sonic was known for his beautifully detailed level design, so to reduce that to mostly crude shapes in the cartoon; doesnt work at all. It feels more like a nightmare version of Rocky and Bullwinkle than Sonic
You're absolutely spot on. It was such a strange decision. When I was editing this and I stuck that brief clip of Labyrinth Zone and then it cut back to AoStH it really hit me just how far they missed the mark with the art style choice for this interpretation. Like you say, it can work really well, but it definitely does not in a Sonic adaptation IMO. Cheers for watching!
@@HillTopTerebi I wouldn't mind if the minimallist artstyle was to recapture the look of specific stages, like the background with the tent is suppose to be Emerald Hill (Which looks more "Rocko's Modern Life" in the art direction), the same, or similar background, can be seen in the unaired AoStH Pilot. In fact, that Emerald Hill background is the only one that's on par with the original game sprites, because it didn't have those weird sky colors.
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed! On a little hiatus at the moment as I'm currently in the USA but uploads will resume with episode 4 at the beginning of November!
Ahh we have discussed this before! The beauty of this cartoon is it’s camp humour! This is how I picture Mobius and the world of Sonic. The semi-adult references make it better as you get older. The classic games don’t give many clues to the personality of characters but when I play the games now, I hear these characters. I never liked the SATAM show. It took itself too seriously and tried to be too edgey imo. Still, enjoyed the video! Good work
We have indeed discussed it! I'm doing them all again so maybe I will find something in it I didn't before. Meant to include it in the video but when Robotnik introduces Grounder as Scratches "identical twin brother" I legit did a big laugh. We'll see... Maybe I'll enjoy it as an adult! Thank you for watching!
Can you do a video of reviews of Sonic The Hedgehog the Saturday morning cartoon that had two seasons and it was made in 1993 the same year as The Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog? If so if you have another chance can you do the British Version of Sonic The Hedgehog Comic Book Series is called Sonic The Comic?
@@HillTopTerebi oh thank you so much I really appreciate it for answering my request I really appreciate it I'll be looking out for Sonic the comic and Sonic the Hedgehog videos I'm added you to my favorite UA-cam subscriber as I'm also a Sonic fan back in the day by then when I first saw the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog as a little kid I thought it was pretty funny(I was into Looney tunes & animaniacs, and other slapstick type cartoons back than) they too much of it because I thought it was part of the video game franchise as I got older I realize how wacky and weird it was and also at the same time I looked at Sonic AM on Saturday mornings that's while I took a closer look at the Saturday morning cartoon one was more link to the game than the other one.
I’m new to your channel and I really love this idea! I know the show can be rather stupid, but I do have soft spot for it. Really looking forward to this series, have subscribed 😁
Thank you! I really appreciate you watching it and subscribing! Hoping I can drop the next episode in the coming days (alongside my usual content). Thanks again for joining me for the ride!!
Lol, ahh AOSTH...I may of said this before, but I remember "back in't day", spending hours upon hours on the STCOnline forums, and how many members, including myself, PREFERRED this series to SATAM. Then I got older and realised the error in my ways (because now I absolutely adore SATAM), but it was interesting to see how the view amongst the oldskool sonic fandom shifted at the time. Speaking of AOSTH, lol I do still find myself howling with laughter at times, and wonder what this would be like watching "under the influence" lol. There is an episode where an Artist makes fun of Robotnik as humpty dumpty (I think?), and it was kinda genius! Also, side question, where you ever aware of the unreleased SATAM sonic game that was in development for the Megadrive/Genesis? May be a good topic to talk about? Love the videos dude as always!
Hello! I guess I can sort of see how people would prefer this to SatAM (although I am definitely in the SatAM camp but that's a massive departure from the games too). AoStH is pretty funny at times. Like I really should have included the line in this video where Grounder first emerges from the robot-making machine and Robotnik says something like "Ah there he is... You're identical twin brother!" to Scratch. I did a huge laugh lol. I definitely think this show could be better under the influence haha. Maybe I'll record a few episodes with some cans over the long weekend. Good shout on the SatAM game video too! Thank you as always for watching!
in my opinion the show isn't nearly as bad as people say it is and in my opinion does have a charm to it. and i do think it unironically has one of the best robotnik's. and does have good episodes i'll give the show this i never straight up hated it and that's at least something

10:32 At first I thought I was the only one who chuckled at this part right here. But hearing you chuckle a bit at this part says it all.
