This month (it's June 2023 at the time of recording!) marks Sonic The Hedgehog's 32nd Birthday. To celebrate 32 years of my favourite blue boy, I wanted to make a personal video all about how I first discovered Sonic The Hedgehog and how it made such a powerful impact I still remain a massive fan of the franchise to this day.
So join me as I share with you my Sonic The Hedgehog origin story!
If you're a similar same age to me, perhaps your Sonic story is similar to mine. If you're younger, maybe it's something completely different. Whatever it is, be sure to let me know all about it in the comments section.
If you're new to the channel, consider subscribing for frequent, high quality Sonic and SEGA videos. And be sure to hit that like button if you enjoy the video.
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!
    And thank YOU for watching!

What a wonderful, thoughtful and nostalgic video! My very first Sonic game was Sonic 2... and almost everything you said in your video paralleled my experience: playing Mario at a friend's house but not feeling the need to get it... later seeing Sonic at a friend's house and being blown away... being unable to contain myself as I looked for a Sega Genesis under the Christmas tree... and then, of course, making my way through the levels one by one and studying everything about the game as I went, from the character designs to the instruction manual. I'm still playing Sonic to this day and, like the title of your video says, it's a game that changed my life. 🙂 Thank you for your loving tribute!

I love hearing retrospective of games like this from people who experienced the release of the now iconic games first hand. Thank you for the great video 👍👍👍

I didn't discover Sonic until I was a kid in the early 2010s.

My introduction to Sonic was at my friend's birthday party. It was time to leave, so I went up to his room to say bye and found a group of kids watching him playing Sonic 1. It was the first Robotnik battle, and I remember finding it incredibly exciting, and also a little bit frightening. I ended up getting a Master System that Christmas I think, and my brother got the mega drive. I don't think I really got to play much of sonic 1 until much later because we owned the second game first

I find videos like these interesting. I’d also be interested to see a similar video for Sonic 2.

This was a great video! I really enjoyed listening to your history with the series. Sonic 1 was the first game I played at about 5! I could not beat Labyrinth Zone for the longest time as the drowning theme made me cry and turn the game off.

I bought a Sega Megadrive just to try this game out after reading computer mag reviews. I loved it, the speed, the loop the loops, the way the rings explode everywhere etc.

less of a "what did i think robotnik was" but since my first sonic game was adventure 2 battle, i had what i thought was a pretty firm idea on what eggman was, so playing the first 3 games on mega collection plus i was like "who is this robotnik person and where is eggman"

This was a fun listen. I wish I could remember my first experiences with Sonic that well. I was born in mid 90's and we had a Sega Mega Drive that was handed down from my aunt. We had Sonic 1, 2 and Knuckles. I remember looking at the pictures of Sonic 3 on the back of the box of S&K and dreaming about it. The console broke before I was old enough to get any good at the games. I re-discovered the games much later when I found Sonic Mega Collection Plus for the PS2 at a local Hypermarket. That's when I was finally able to play Sonic 3 also. It did not disappoint!

My first experience was after the parents of my dad saw a commercial with me for the so called Magnum Set incl. Sonic 1 and Mega Games I. After the commrcial, when they saw stars in my eyes, they only said : "Son, we don´t know what this is, we don´t know how much it costs but go to a shop with this thing and buy it. We will pay the price". On the same evening I got my Mega Drive, which works till today on my TV. On the first evining, I could play til 3 in the morning. Sadly my grandparents passed away a few years ago. But if my Mega Drive will ever break in 100 pieces,

My first experience with Sonic was: I guess, playing the demos of Sonic Lost World, Sonic & All-Stars Transformed & Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric on my Wii U, but my love of Sonic began with the second trailer to the first Sonic Movie. After that, I instantly became a fan of the franchise. And I still am to this day. Currently, I'm anticipating the release of Sonic Origins Plus, Sonic Prime Season 2, the Knuckles spinoff series, Sonic Superstars, the rest of the Sonic Frontiers updates, & Sonic Movie 3, Alongside some other stuff.

I too used to think Robotnik had giant fangs

My first experience with Sonic was my cousin trying to show it to me on his Sega Genesis and me saying that I wanted to play Batman. I was in kindergarten and, for some reason, I was allowed to watch Batman the animated series. But not long after that, I started getting into Sonic and here I am watching a video about the first Sonic game from like 34 years ago. Damn! Now I feel like an old fart.

At the footage of the PAL Mega Drive, the credit gets overlapped by the footage itself. but good still video!

I was just 4 when I first played this, couldn’t beat the first boss, and all I remember about Robotnik at the time is calling him the nasty man 😂 So with that name, I’m guessing I must have known he was a human.
