Man, I love this song. Just found it again here. Bought the album when it came out. Made me want to travel, and now Ive been in LA for 30 years after drivin out west to see what I could see. Still love St Louis, its my hometown, and still Gods country as far as Im concerned. God bless Missouri state, Missouri band and KSHE95!. Ya'll rocked!
Probably the best outdoor concert ive ever seen or heard!! The music and concerts back in those days were so much fun. I had just got my drum kit for Christmas and beat the hell out of them to this song!! I was 10 and went with my two brothers AND DAD and let me tell ya I seen things that day (fun things) I thought I would never see and alot of it was my DAD lol Still say the 60's, 70's and 80's were the best years to grow up in!! This band was so awesome and the members were the nicest dudes just a local band that loved to Rock N Roll!!
One of my Idealized songs that spurred me on to hitchhike across the States with no real worries of consequence or destination...I can still close my eyes and travel all of those same roads and I'm nineteen again with the casual behind me and the bizarre ahead of me.....Enjoy!!
I seen this was posted 13 years ago but I still wanted to comment. I seen you all at a dive bar called Cajobes outside Lexington Missouri years ago. I think I was 17. My cousin got me in. It was the best ever!!! This had to be somewhere around 1976 to 1978 as I am now 62 and still rocking along. Great memories.
I was at this concert.. Love Arrowhead and many concerts there, all the Summer Jams..even tho they changed to GEHA stadium always gonna be Arrowhead.. always gonna be home
@@charlotte50224 Do you remember how hot it was that day? They were selling Tall Bottled Beer and people were passing out on the field... It was a great time...
My husband worked security at Arrowhead for many of the concerts and was actually in front of the band behind the wall. He said lots of knives and mullets but always a great crowd.
Missouri was supposed to be the opening act for Lynyrd Skynyrd st the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1977, but the plane crash in Mississippi changed that. What a great album.
Back in the 80’s I ran lights for Missouri a few times. You had a band called Stratus opening. You used their PA and lights playing clubs in Missouri. I had a blast!!! You guys rocked!!! Still have the album you gave me!!!
I would give up all of the modern conveniences we have like cell phones, PC's, etc, in a second to go back to those days. You never know what you have untill it's gone.
Rick We played Arrowhead twice, once at Willie Nelson picnic in 79 And in 80 with ,Sammy Hagar, The Cars, Heart, Ted Nugent at Summer jam, people 2 miles away complained about the noise.. The sound system would have been able to kill everyone in the stadium if it had been cranked op with white noise.
Is that the one when Ted he said he would never be back. The ball bearing? Was their? Saw Missouri. Summer jams were awesome remember the guy climbing the lights?
I remember that! Farmers called from 60 miles away to the east in Sedalia wondering what the noise was they were hearing! I missed that one but heard it from north of the river in Riverside.I did make this one however. My soon to be wife, Susan Fast and I were dancing in front of the stage! Before, during and after the rain came! Didnt last long though and Waylon Jennings came on with "Slippin and Slidin" The infield mostly cleared when it rained leaving the infield a giant slip-n-slide! A BLAST!
This is Jack I played with the Dodge Band dont know if you remember or not we did a show in Moberly Missouri with you guys and your van broke down and you all had to use our gear it was a sold out show and lot of fun, old Kirby was your sound man
I remember when Missouri played at the walrus inn in kcmo. A reunion gig. With us steel. I grew up with the guys from us steel. Cant seem to find a records or pics of us steel. What a shame.
I just dont understand why rhey didn't go bigger. They were a great band. I considered them up there with Zeppelin, ZZ, Kansas, just name a couple, you know the big bands. They were awesome. Still are.
aaaahhhh.....the good ol' days! I didn't make it to Willie's picnic but did make it to the Arrowhead jam (i.e. Nugent loudest decibel concert) and Royals Stadium (i.e. REO tornado show!). Didn't you open the Nugent/Heart show too?
I have been enjoying the old Missouri and Shooting Star videos. Do you and/or Gary know of any good videos with Jimmy playing guitar? I have seen the Chesmann Square Hall of Fame (2006) and Sparks "Rollercoaster" (1977) vids. Thanks for the videos.
You guys have this backwards.....Missouri,Sammy Hagar, The Cars, Heart, Ted Nugent was Summer Rock 79.....summer of 1979..........I was there at Arrowhead
I was also there. Great time! I had a friend that was a roadie with the Cars. In fact I was having trouble finding a bathroom for women as I was in the locker room area so Ric Ocasek stood at the entrance of the restroom so no one would walk in on me.😁 I miss those times of the 70's and 80's where life was a little easier and a little safer.
Ron, I would really wish that you would either release some of the actual live recordings or at least have some sort of reunion show even if it is only one in KC or St. Louis. After all these years there cannot possibly any type of bad feelings still and that is just childish. It is past time.
KC Royals Stadium - Summer Jam '77 - Ted Nugent, REO Speedwagon, Black Oak Arkansas, Head East, The Climax Blues Band, The Little River Band... and weed. KC Royals Stadium - Summer Jam '78 - Kansas, Steve Miller Band, Eddie Money, Van Halen ...I remember VH getting "boo'd" off the stage... and weed. Arrowhead Stadium- Summer Rock '79 -Ted Nugent, Heart, The Cars, Bob Welch, Sammy Hagar, Missouri... and weed. KC Royals Stadium- Summer Jam '79 - REO Speedwagon, Little River Band, Santana, Missouri, Pat Travers... and weed. ...those were the days...

My husband worked security at Arrowhead for many of the concerts and was actually in front of the band behind the wall. He said lots of knives and mullets but always a great crowd.
Knives and mullets, that's hilarious, it was the style of the times and people from Missouri are the salt of the earth, especially back then.
I was 17 and this was my first concert

The lead guitar is perfect. Perfect tempo, not overwrought but yet distinct from the rhythm guitar.
