I've been following Henson for a bit… It's good to see the guitar up-front once again… The structure of the tunes are rather simple, while the guitar parts are intricate and extremely challenging to execute… I wonder if other upcoming guitarists will follow in his footsteps, the way so many followed Eddie Van Halen. I think the energy of the crowd is a little weird because everyone is in awe of how technical and talented the band is. It's not like watching some generic pop band where you can dance/sing and not put much thought into it; Polyphia melt minds!
Yeah this is not an energetic kind of band. Similar to Mastodon and other bands that are primarily instrumental. They have to focus on what they're playing.

As a musician I wouldn't call the crowd energy weird at all. More like pure. I'd call a bunch of kids on mdma grinding their teeth to shitty edm music weird energy lol. This is a concert I could enjoy completely sober, which is saying something. (Although I'll probably have a few beers when I see them in Norfolk)

Can we all take a second and be greatful for dope security guards who help crowd surfers get down without hurting themselves. They get kicked, punched, and just a hardcore work out in without even being able to see the show. I had a security guard cave a mans nose in once for me when I was like 13 in 2003 at an all american rejects concert. I was crowd surfing. Accidentally kicked a guy on my way down and the guy started punching me in the back of the head. The guy was weak AF I honestly didn't notice the first punch. I thought it was the security guard tapping me trying to get me to move since I was putting my shoe on. I looked up and caught a second punch to the cheek/ear still didn't hurt but the guy was red in the face just super angry and probably drunk. The security guard looked at me, a kid at the time, looked at the asshole and decked him square in the nose it knocked him on his ass, and the crowd dragged him away from the front.

@Jarred Kiser I agree. It’s not just about technical skill (even though he’s a fucking beast at that too), it’s also about creativity, innovation and composition. As a complete package, he’s easily in my top 10 guitarists. Perhaps my #1.
Can't say for certain if he anchors, I think not personally. It's just that his wrist/arm doesn't move much since he's hybrid picking a lot of the time. Index finger/thumb holds the plectrum and plays the lower strings whilst other fingers play the higher strings.

It is hard to play for a metal guitarist. Classical guitarists have a much easier time learning this.
