Can't thank you enough. I have a 425 polaris mangnum i was having problems with throttle response, it would cut out on the low end side we did this and opened the exhaust up. The first start it back fired and blew a bunch of crap out then it started running better than it ever has before. And it sounds GREAT thank you so much!
You must be from Canada.Lol. Us Arctic Cat guys do a simular muffler mod but we will actually cut the back of the muffler off to drill the holes and then weld the end back on once finished. I drilled eight 1/2" holes inside my AC muffler and went with a 1.75" exhaust tip. I didnt want mine too crazy loud. Then cut off the little factory .75" exhaust tip and welded a block off plate on. Some guys are lucky and are able to remove the original spark arrestor and keep using/cleaning it when necessary. I wasn't so lucky as mine broke. So what I ended up doing was instead of welding my exhaust tip to the muffler I made a 3 bolt flange which I welded the tip to it then bolted the entire tip to the muffler. Worked out great because I used a metal screen strainer for making tea and used it as the gasket for the exhaust tip as well as my new spark arrestor. Couldn't have gone any better and it even looks factory. It's been a few years since the mod so the muffler is rusty again. Lol. Oh well.
I put two yoshmura pipes on my Polaris 800 an built my own header pipe for both sides. It really sounds great . Gonna upload video when I finish everything else...
same. Though, I do recommend you get back in the saddle and push through at least ten more minutes. It's the most cringe worthy video I've witnessed in quite some time. "hey someone is calling me, called aboot me wuuurkin on his moooter". "someone's texting now", someone's calling. Busy dey"
Thanks so much... I think I'm going to do the same.. But I'm prob cutting the baffles out like what you where going to do... Thanks for saving me $400 bucks Man on buy a new exhaust!!
there is a much easier way than all that. simply cut it in half between the two mounting tabs. there is a velocity tube inside, cut it off, there is also a plate with slots in it, I just put the pointed end of a heel bar in each slot and widen each one. Weld it back together. This mod will free up power, and not make it excessively loud.
Does it matter? As long as it holds, of course its great when it looks pretty, but still, id rather something hold, than just look pretty and have a chance of breaking, thats the way they teach alot, in the deep mines, you may be certified to do one job, but someone may need you to weld, so they make it to where as long as it lasts and holds your fine.
Hi there I have a 2007 model sportsman 800 x2 I want to make it more quiet for hunting If I was to add a small muffler on the bottom pipe will i need to do any other modifications to the engine ? I know it wont run as well but thats not the issue I just want it quieter Could it harm the engine in any way ?
can you post a before and after sound video? i just want to see the difference. I have a 500 ho but it isnt running yet i still have work to do but im planning on doing this
Awesome video! I am so happy to find a user that not only has a sportsman but knows what the hell they are doing. I was wondering if you may be able to help me. I recently had to replace the rear sway bar, which involved me removing most parts in the backend. The new part is here and on but I need help getting my shocks working. They worked perfect before taking them off, now that they are off and back on again they will NOT compress down. I literally broke a cement block attempting to compress the shock. What do I do? Can you also help with CV Axles?
I have a 99 sportsman 500 the seal blew out on the exhaust ordered a new one but it was running like shit (random shut offs and had to be towed home) and ever since that seal blew out its ran way better think the exhaust is clogged would I have to rejet if I did this? If so do you know how to tell which size jet I need? I'm in west virginia
You do plug readings after exhaust changes ? Whenever exhaust flow is increased or restricted fuel/air mixture may not be enough or two much on carbureted models...fuel injected adjust themselves to a point , an you can install a tuner exe.
Yes i did (But Did not Chop it) , Quad is Still Running Very Good She has 600 Hours and Around 9,000 Miles on her right now. (Still The OEM Plug , Never had to Change her. )
Did YOU have problems when you get the Quad in the water and the water hits the exhaust? Because when i did it with the STOCK exhaust, the engine almost died IN the water. So i want To know IF you have problems with that. And IF you noticed any performace improvement. Oh yeah, mine is a 570 EFI, so do i NEED To do somethig To the batery To have no engine check light when i use it.
Hey I have a quetion, I see through your polaris sportsman vids that t looks like you know what ur doing. So I have a problem with , y polaris sportsman 05 500 4x4, the starter ican hear turning over the motor but it wont catch!!! Then as soon as I damn near flood it, I can uae the ripcord and ot starts right up! Any ideas on a fix? Oh also when I do get it started it wont idle on its own, but when its warm its just fine.
what is the purpose of drilling the hoes if your bypassing the back baffles? pretty good mod though, i may try it on my 2000 500. with a airbox mod and rejet
Oh,I have a '99 Sportsman 500 that's all apart waiting for me to put the New engine on it outside. Its an old junker I got for $100 and it ran pretty good for about a year then blew up.Now I got the used engine and need to find time to put it back together.Dont listen to these idiots that are just hateful people.Chronic complainers..lol..
Jetting is the little pins in your carb that determine the spray of fuel going into the engine. So bigger jets will give a bigger spray of fuel from the carb into your top end. Google jetting and you'll see it's pretty simple. If you aren't sure what size of jets to use then go on a forum and explain any mods you've done or check a jetting sheet.
Holy welds Batman! Geeze you really went to town throwing down weld after weld. Lol. You shouldn't have to grind your welds if you can lay a bead to look like a roll of nickels. What did you use to weld a stick or Flux mig? Practice makes perfect my friend.
***** Hey the old welders are the usually the good ones. Don't know about yours but I had a almost 35 yr old TIG welder and it worked like a dream. Only thing was it was a big SOB and when I left one shop I didn't have room in my garage.
Marsden Balaska thats not true actually, as long as the machine is running water wont come in the exhaust, if the machine is off and under water, it doesn’t matter where what size or what shape the hole is, water is still getting in
Brandenlytle1 while you are correct about that you have to think if the machine stalls in the water you are in trouble. I’ve done it and filled my muffler with swamp water, gonna leave the muffler on my new to me Polaris as it came stock I think

That sounds ace made a right good job with it
Just did that mod on my 2013 800. Welded a 1"3/4 pipe on the back. Sounds way better now!
I put two yoshmura pipes on my Polaris 800 an built my own header pipe for both sides. It really sounds great . Gonna upload video when I finish everything else...
Looks awesome
Sounds great
You lost me at exhausteses.
Lol
same. Though, I do recommend you get back in the saddle and push through at least ten more minutes. It's the most cringe worthy video I've witnessed in quite some time. "hey someone is calling me, called aboot me wuuurkin on his moooter". "someone's texting now", someone's calling. Busy dey"

Man on buy a new exhaust!!
I'm gonna do this to my Magnum 500 :D

KosmosKillr can you post pics of how you modded yours?
Yes pictures pleaseeee
If you have to grind your welds, you're a grinder, not a welder.
Court Rutherford iiiuuu
A grinder and paint will make a welder what he aint
Does it matter? Hell I want mine quieter than stock

It sounds just like my hmf xl on my 550 xp
what year is it and where did you get the rear shocks and what brand are they
Awesome video! I am so happy to find a user that not only has a sportsman but knows what the hell they are doing. I was wondering if you may be able to help me. What size jets did you use for your carb re-jet?
Could I do this to my 99 Polaris Sportsman 500? And if I do could it ruin anything? and do i need to rejet it
I have a 99 sportsman 500 the seal blew out on the exhaust ordered a new one but it was running like shit (random shut offs and had to be towed home) and ever since that seal blew out its ran way better think the exhaust is clogged would I have to rejet if I did this? fellow manitoban ayyy
If i did this would i have to re jet if im just doing the exhaust ? And would this work for a 2002 ?
Im doing this to my 500 when I get home
if i were to do this on my 2012 sportsman 500 will I need to rejet it? if not what other changes will i need to do ?

Great vidéo man ! I have a 2012 polaris 500 touring. I had a cople questions about what u did. Is there a way i could call u ?
This dude got all these tools and I feel like he knows how to use all of them just barely 😂😂

Do you have to jet it?

TheInsidetechnology
Had my exhaust under only 1 time and it was fine , BUT I did not let off the gas to make it across the river.
Did u take all the baffles out
You don't have to jet a silencer. If it was the whole muffler and yes, you'd have to change the jetting.
Keep makeinf
What part of Newfoundland ya at me buddy
Hey I have a quetion, I see through your polaris sportsman vids that t looks like you know what ur doing. Try getting a honda
Ur watching duck dynast I heard miss Kay
it will gain a little horse powr doing this mod?'
what is the purpose of drilling the hoes if your bypassing the back baffles? pretty good mod though, i may try it on my 2000 500. with a airbox mod and rejet
Works ok for carburated models , fuel injected not so much unless you're going to install tuner .
Wait , that sounds more of a reason to run straight pipe ,. Anything that keeps wife interested in something else 😜
I have a Polaris 2014
i have modded "exhaustes" before, lol
Do you think youd be able to get into off road parks still or is it too loud.
Does that rule exist?
How many jet sizes did you go up on the main and pilot?
Polaris Sportsman 500 Rejetting The Carburetor And Tips
When you hole saw it can you leave it how it is and do you loose horse power when you do the mod without jetting it and what is jetting
What aTV group are you part of in Manitoba?
Interlake area or south
None I don't really have time to ride with a group.
But I do Live in Sandilands So 250FT from my House is the main Trail system.
When did u put the spark arrester in cuz I can't find it in ur vids
Nice video! So if im not rejeting, is this still usefull or do i only get nice sound? :) have a 2005 sportsman 500ho.
+Peter Isberg if you don't rejet little chance you can burn up your engine over time.
I have videos on the rejet , its not that hard.
G
Im in minnesota
Doing this to my 335 Polaris sportsman
Well worth it !
@@starpuss how did you close the bottom pipe did you cut it ?
Great mod! Check my mod. That's extremely loud!
What kinda of four wheeler if you don't mind me asking?
its a 97 polaris sportsman 400 its a 2 stroke btw
Did u notice any horse power improvement
*YUP!!*
Holy welds Batman! Geeze you really went to town throwing down weld after weld. Lol. You shouldn't have to grind your welds if you can lay a bead to look like a roll of nickels. What did you use to weld a stick or Flux mig? Practice makes perfect my friend.
30spooln its a pos 20-30 year old flux welder lol
***** Hey the old welders are the usually the good ones. Don't know about yours but I had a almost 35 yr old TIG welder and it worked like a dream. Only thing was it was a big SOB and when I left one shop I didn't have room in my garage.
Would that cause any harm to the engine or any thing else?
Yes if not properly Jetted
Just rev the shit out of it in your garage until you choke on the fumes Sounds good though p
Has anyone done this with the older 400 two strokes?
i Have some videos up about my old 400 2 stoke , But nothing to do with exhaust ,
yes you can so a little mods to the silencer part
Btw what are the risks you take by doing this
Drew Dyson water getting inside your engine and rusting it up.
Do you have to rejet if its an efi?
Um you can't rejet if it's efi, efi models don't have carbs.... You would have to remap or get a fuel optimiser but u don't think you need to for it
EFI doesn't have jets. Jetting is only on a carburetor.
138 i dont want to loud ok see ya
Never cut metal at that speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My fuckin bit wouldn't cut a 2 inch hole in it
I would take the down pipe off an if you do can you send It to me please I have a fourwheeler that needs one
can you do these mods on the 2014 sportsman 400 ho?
chance jones Don't see why not.
doesn't sound much different from just taking out the spark arrestor for all that work its kinda a fart canon...
I have Modded Exausteses lol wow
Too Many beer during that video LOL!
How can you weld without gas!? 😂
flux core
Since you didn't have CO2 for the mig, you would have been better off pulling those torches out and brazing the tip on.
You do realize that exhaust port is made that way so water doesn't come into the engine?Yep,I hope your mod doesn't allow water in?!
OntarioRedneXXX yeah that’s basically what i said in the last part of my comment, as long as the machine keeps running, its fine
It’ll buff
Remove the spark plug turn it over and spit it out
Just go out and buy a 500 slip on this sounds like hot garbage
Couldn't watch this, the camera work is horrendous,
Sounds like crap.
Worse video I have ever seen. Very disorganized! Very goofy on many levels. WOW
When did u put the spark arrester in cuz I can't find it in ur vids
