Lindsey, enjoy someday I plan to move up to Derwent or Caran Dache. One of my library coloring art classes was to decorate a cigar box with scrapbook, stamps, bling, and colored art pieces. I am going to use it for misc coloring supplies. Hope you try out decorating your box for the pencils!
What a great idea to get used cigar bixes tl put your large pencils in ...we have a cigar shop about a hour away im gonna call them to see if they sell them ir give away free thank you again for information on cigar boxesmpencils cases are really expandive and derwent one thats specific for derwent pencols is really hard to come by...mam👩🎨🎨🙏
hi, Jennifer. I don't know if anyone else has suggested this, but my response to pencil tins is broad elastic. I've used this to keep my tins and sketchbooks in my plein air kit closed for years, and haven't had to change the elastic to date. It costs very little, takes up no noticeable space and is easier to put on and take off than tape. Also, remember that once paper had been put through a printer, unless it's a top quality one with archival inks, the paper is no longer archival, as even where there is no actual colour on the original, the printer still deposits on it. The surface, too, is slightly altered by the printer's feeders. I've found that this has had a serious effect on the way the paper takes watercolour, especially when doing colour wheels and complementary colour exercises with the students, where hand-drawing the number needed is not really feasible, far more so with my new HP printer, as it was never a big issue with my trusty Epsons. (This is 200gsm & 300gsm Fabriano artistico paper). :)
I have a recommendation for you. I bought , on Amazon, rich and ray ties that really aren’t ties at all! They are a silicone strap with magnet “flowers” on each end. They are perfect to put on colored pencil tins to keep them shut. On larger tins I use 2, one on each side of the box. They are approximately $1 per strap. With the money we put into our colored pencils ,I think it’s worth the money to protect them.

I have their wooden boxes sets of water colour pencils and regular colour pencils, they were a gift about 35 years ago. I still have them, well mostly the wood box and replacement pencils, I love the wood boxes. I would love a box like you have, wow! You two are very blessed!

you should definitely contact their customer service as they will replace whichever ones don't meet your standards. give them a call or use the online chat feature to resolve the issues with those few pencils that were off center
They are blunt sharpened on purchasing so the points have a good chance of surviving shipping. If you want needles sharpen as you need them. At least it means you can swatch straight away and don’t lose a load of the point en route.

It wouldn’t necessarily be cheaper in a tin box. I have the full set of Inktense pencils in the fancy wooden box because it was way cheaper than the tin box, oddly enough. This set is gorgeous 😍
I saw that on our Amazon too and that ran for quite a while with the wooden box being cheaper. I didn’t buy either because I didn’t have a need for lightfast pencils. But I got a tin of 12 to try and I really liked them, suddenly Amazon dropped the price on the 100 set and I got it in the tin.
Very nice. I just did the currency conversion on the Blick price and determined this box costs 3/5ths of what I paid for the Luminance wooden box some years back. Oof. I love the Luminance pencils, but I likely would have bought these instead if they had been available at the time just based on cost savings. I do feel like the Luminance box is very slightly better (all three trays are removable, the entirety of the inside of each tray is lined in foam), but it's sure not $200 worth of better, lol. The lid also stands up straight, which is either good or bad depending on your preference...to save desk space I like it, but it's true that it could also be nice to nest trays in the lid. The pencils in your box also still look secure, which is the main thing. Derwent has had some doozies of bad packaging before, but this is nice. I feel like they mimicked the design of the CD box as well as the look of the Luminance pencils, which is NOT a bad thing...CD seems to think of practically everything in their packaging, other legacy art supply brands could learn from them. The build quality of this box also looks great. I wonder if the spreading popularity of this offering will cause a "response" from CD in any way.
I have this set in the tin of 72, but I was able to get the rest of the set from Derwent's website and they came in 3 small tins. I had heard that some artists/colorists combine this set with the CD Luminance set and use them together. I have the complete set of those as well. In many ways they are similar in the way they feel when laying down color. Tones are similar too. The wax/oil thing doesn't seem to make a difference that I can tell.
What a lovely gift! I enjoy the Lightfast very much with the Polychromos and the Luminance. Amazon sells colored pencil bags that protect the tips so that’s where mine ended up with the charcoal pencils and watercolor pencils from FC. When I flip a section I see them in order (all the colored pencil brands are together) and that helps me decide which to grab. You will enjoy them very much. I still heavily rely on the Polys for technical details because of their hardness but love them all. Enjoy your gift.
I personally adore the lightfast! I feel they are oilier than the luminance which feel quite dry...I also feel their box and pencil barrel is of a better quality...heavier, more solid, less porous

I enjoyed your unboxing as much as I enjoyed unboxing my own set of 100 Derwent Lightfast pencils. You brought back the joy I felt with that first look! I found Derwent’s customer service awesome and quick to assist. I had a broken Inktense color stick and they sent me two whole ones. Now I get a bit red faced about that as a broken color stick is okay. I just wanted them perfect, of course. The box is heavy, but the trays aren’t. I have my most used pencils in the top tray and I do use the “book shelf” for additional pencils for my current project. Thank you for sharing your wonderful unboxing!
Oooooh! I love Derwent pencils, and especially their beautiful colour selection. One day, I'll bite the expansive bullet and get me some Lightfast, I know it! And don't hesitate to contact them about the off-centered pencils, the brand is not above quality issues but they are usually open to replacements!

They are such lovely pencils. I got this box for Christmas as they came on sale from a local supplier. They were such a good deal I could not resist any longer. They have quickly become one of my favourite pencils. Anyone looking for a special gift or luxurious treat…. I would highly recommend these.
Mine of arrived early this week after back ordered for some time and Yes! this is the most beautiful set of colored pencils ever. The wooden box is the most finally crafted of any pencil box I have ever owned, even the trays are wood. The subdued tones and tints are excellent. The deep dark tones give coverage almost like oil paint and deep dark they are! The color range complements the Luminance 6901 line with almost no exact over lapping colors. Derwent really knows how to make a fine presentation of its fine art verified colorfast pencils.
congratulations on getting that lovely set in the box. I am so frustrated because years ago I bought one f the first set of intense pencils, long before I was what I would call a colourist. I moved house 22 years ago, and never saw them again. So I guess they went to that place in heaven where everything I lose goes to. Re your question about the last 30 days, I liked the IAM Strong pic, but it was tiny when I printed it out, and I cant figure out how to get my new Canon printer to make it bigger! But I love all you do, and how much time and effort you put into it. Thank you so much.
Nice pencils. I have a woodbox set of Faber Castel polychromos but found it terribly uneasy to work with. I transferred all my pencils to a pencil case and now I have a redundant 120 pencil wood box.
You are lucky to have the wood box set. I ordered them in January and they never came in stock on Blick. They canceled the order. I ended up purchasing them individually from Blick. They trickled in slowly and eventually they canceled the back orders. I finished my set on Cult Pens.
They are not off centered.... that is because of sharpening. You will have probably noticed already when sharpening. Also Caran d'ache Luminance has s full 100 colors for a year now.
Unfortunately, there are at least 2 in the set that are significantly off centered. Sharpening them only amplified the issue. If the end of the pencil wasn’t dipped in paint (like Prismacolor pencils) I could have shown the issue much better. There are several pencils in the set that just appear slightly off center but when you sharpen them, they look better. The reason I could see the problem so quickly is because I have been reviewing and working with colored pencils for so many years…these issues stick out like sore thumbs now…maybe I need to get a job at Derwent in quality control 🤔😂🤪

The nails are Kiss Impress and I think your Pan to buy the 12 set is awesome….I have collected a lot of different brands this way and many of them I was very glad I didn’t invest any additional money on the full set. Have fun coloring.
Brief look but that pencil really didn't look off-center, more like sharpening artifact. You will hopefully find it is just fine. Not a good enough look to have any opinion on the 2nd one. Happy coloring!
You go girl. I don't think I'll ever own the full set. I started with the 1st 36 set, then added from the pencil colors that came in the 2nd 36. Now don't they have 100? Well, never say never 😆
Derwent has a new Line and Wash small watercolor set that has 2 microliners, and 12 watercolors. Eight of the colors are Inktense and 4 are Graphitint. Looks interesting, not sure how much it might cost
I love your video's and I'll just live vicariously through you because that box of 100 costs $328.99 from amazon omgosh I almost fainted. Yeah I'll stick with Crayola and Prismacolors coloring pencils for now and probably forever. Congrats on the new box though and can't wait to watch you coloring with them.

By the way if you have deffective pencils ( off centered cores) you can definitely contact Derwent and they will replace the pencils...it is quite rare for this to happen with Derwent though...never had this problem😶

@@peteinuk Luminance has 100 colours. Check out the official website. They don’t all have to be in a single set to be purchased, hence why I never mentioned a “set” but was responding to the claim that Luminance only do 76 colours.
@@Kyomiibrown And they probably will release a 100 set eventually. The other 24 colors are relatively new, and I'm sure there's a cost to completely re-designing their similar wooden collector's box to accommodate their newer pencils.
There is no luminance set as I said - yes there are 100 pencils. The price in the UK makes Derwent cheaper instead of paying the 72 set and open stock. Sadly I can't afford either!
I like Derwent products. I recently spent the most money I've ever spent on the Inktense pencil set. Will wait until prices stabilize due to inflationary influences now. Box is nice but....and are some of those pencils different sizes? Try their graphic tint and pastel pencils too.
I have Reynauds syndrome which affects blood flow in my fingers which causes pain! I just bought these pencils in the same box. I found it very hard to pinch and grip each tray so much so that I had to return them. Polychromos will remain my favourite!. Pamela UK
I bought the full set of Derwent Coloursoft and the wooden box is similar although not exactly the same. But when I buy colored pencils, I care about the pencil, not the box or tin so much - I can put them in a different case. To be honest, I was disappointed by the Derwents, they break just like the Prisma's constantly, they didn't blend with other brand pencils as well, and just reminded me of the Prisma's too much. I just hate paying a good price for a pencil and then getting ones like you got in this set that are off-centered, break all the time, or the casings are cracked and crazed. I MUCH prefer my Luminance and Pablos and my favorites, my Polychromos. Man, I could do without just about all the other pencils as long as I had my Polychromos.
I recently got an art kit in a wooden box (a big purchase for me), it's gorgeous but hard for me to get in & out of packaging 'cause my small hands and edges are slightly sharp. beautiful pencils though!
Love the fancy box. Your other video on lightfastness was also informative. You mention the problem of some cores being off centre. Surely this is only a problem if you use a mechanical sharpener. If you sharpen with a blade I don't think it would be such a problem?
I don't know... I don't see many purples. Something I'm noticing with many of the higher end sets. Personally I'm getting frustrated buying sets to have to buy individual pencils to get the purples..... seems most sets favor yellows oranges and greens lol Any suggestions on sets with many purples and possibly blues lol.
I have a strange experience with Derwent pencils. The artist, drawing and procolour ones simply don’t write properly and I cannot blend them. I’ve not tried any lightfast yet. Thank you for the video.

They are such lovely pencils. I got this box for Christmas as they came on sale from a local supplier. They were such a good deal I could not resist any longer. They have quickly become one of my favourite pencils. Anyone looking for a special gift or luxurious treat…. I would highly recommend these.
Mine of arrived early this week after back ordered for some time and Yes! this is the most beautiful set of colored pencils ever. The wooden box is the most finally crafted of any pencil box I have ever owned, even the trays are wood. The subdued tones and tints are excellent. The deep dark tones give coverage almost like oil paint and deep dark they are! The color range complements the Luminance 6901 line with almost no exact over lapping colors. Derwent really knows how to make a fine presentation of its fine art verified colorfast pencils.
congratulations on getting that lovely set in the box. I am so frustrated because years ago I bought one f the first set of intense pencils, long before I was what I would call a colourist. I moved house 22 years ago, and never saw them again. So I guess they went to that place in heaven where everything I lose goes to. Re your question about the last 30 days, I liked the IAM Strong pic, but it was tiny when I printed it out, and I cant figure out how to get my new Canon printer to make it bigger! But I love all you do, and how much time and effort you put into it. Thank you so much.

Nice pencils. I have a woodbox set of Faber Castel polychromos but found it terribly uneasy to work with. I transferred all my pencils to a pencil case and now I have a redundant 120 pencil wood box.
Shouldn’t they all be the exact length to start with before resharpening each of them?

You are lucky to have the wood box set. I ordered them in January and they never came in stock on Blick. They canceled the order. I ended up purchasing them individually from Blick. They trickled in slowly and eventually they canceled the back orders. I finished my set on Cult Pens.

They are not off centered.... that is because of sharpening. You will have probably noticed already when sharpening.
Also Caran d'ache Luminance has s full 100 colors for a year now.
Unfortunately, there are at least 2 in the set that are significantly off centered. Sharpening them only amplified the issue. If the end of the pencil wasn’t dipped in paint (like Prismacolor pencils) I could have shown the issue much better. There are several pencils in the set that just appear slightly off center but when you sharpen them, they look better. The reason I could see the problem so quickly is because I have been reviewing and working with colored pencils for so many years…these issues stick out like sore thumbs now…maybe I need to get a job at Derwent in quality control 🤔😂🤪

The nails are Kiss Impress and I think your Pan to buy the 12 set is awesome….I have collected a lot of different brands this way and many of them I was very glad I didn’t invest any additional money on the full set. Have fun coloring.
One of my favourite set of pencils for animal and landscape art.
I can see why. I have been swatching and working with the full set and there are some gorgeous tones for landscapes…such delicious dark shades.

Do try sharpening the off centre ones though, it might be bad sharpening.
Brief look but that pencil really didn't look off-center, more like sharpening artifact. You will hopefully find it is just fine. Not a good enough look to have any opinion on the 2nd one. Happy coloring!

You go girl. I don't think I'll ever own the full set. I started with the 1st 36 set, then added from the pencil colors that came in the 2nd 36. Now don't they have 100? Well, never say never 😆

Derwent has a new Line and Wash small watercolor set that has 2 microliners, and 12 watercolors. Eight of the colors are Inktense and 4 are Graphitint. Looks interesting, not sure how much it might cost
I love your video's and I'll just live vicariously through you because that box of 100 costs $328.99 from amazon omgosh I almost fainted. Yeah I'll stick with Crayola and Prismacolors coloring pencils for now and probably forever. Congrats on the new box though and can't wait to watch you coloring with them.

By the way if you have deffective pencils ( off centered cores) you can definitely contact Derwent and they will replace the pencils...it is quite rare for this to happen with Derwent though...never had this problem😶

Derwent lightfast are more expensive than Luminance in the UK. Also CD Luminance has 100 colours too.
Not true. There is no luminance 100 set.
They have a 76 set and another follow up set with 20 and an extra 4 that can be purchased separately so 100 total
@@peteinuk Luminance has 100 colours. Check out the official website. They don’t all have to be in a single set to be purchased, hence why I never mentioned a “set” but was responding to the claim that Luminance only do 76 colours.
@@Kyomiibrown And they probably will release a 100 set eventually. The other 24 colors are relatively new, and I'm sure there's a cost to completely re-designing their similar wooden collector's box to accommodate their newer pencils.
There is no luminance set as I said - yes there are 100 pencils. The price in the UK makes Derwent cheaper instead of paying the 72 set and open stock. Sadly I can't afford either!

I like Derwent products. I recently spent the most money I've ever spent on the Inktense pencil set. Will wait until prices stabilize due to inflationary influences now. Box is nice but....and are some of those pencils different sizes? Try their graphic tint and pastel pencils too.

I have Reynauds syndrome which affects blood flow in my fingers which causes pain! I just bought these pencils in the same box. I found it very hard to pinch and grip each tray so much so that I had to return them. Polychromos will remain my favourite!. Pamela UK

I bought the full set of Derwent Coloursoft and the wooden box is similar although not exactly the same. But when I buy colored pencils, I care about the pencil, not the box or tin so much - I can put them in a different case. To be honest, I was disappointed by the Derwents, they break just like the Prisma's constantly, they didn't blend with other brand pencils as well, and just reminded me of the Prisma's too much. I just hate paying a good price for a pencil and then getting ones like you got in this set that are off-centered, break all the time, or the casings are cracked and crazed. I MUCH prefer my Luminance and Pablos and my favorites, my Polychromos. Man, I could do without just about all the other pencils as long as I had my Polychromos.
I recently got an art kit in a wooden box (a big purchase for me), it's gorgeous but hard for me to get in & out of packaging 'cause my small hands and edges are slightly sharp. beautiful pencils though!
Love the fancy box. Your other video on lightfastness was also informative. You mention the problem of some cores being off centre. Surely this is only a problem if you use a mechanical sharpener. If you sharpen with a blade I don't think it would be such a problem?

I don't know... I don't see many purples. Something I'm noticing with many of the higher end sets. Personally I'm getting frustrated buying sets to have to buy individual pencils to get the purples..... seems most sets favor yellows oranges and greens lol
Any suggestions on sets with many purples and possibly blues lol.

I have a strange experience with Derwent pencils. The artist, drawing and procolour ones simply don’t write properly and I cannot blend them. I’ve not tried any lightfast yet. Thank you for the video.
