As usual, you are making great points, which are very beneficial. I am looking forward to using the new Berkley Power stingers on their Slobberknocker. lures this year. Thanks for sharing!!
I use a beaver style with the flatside down when fishing lay downs. It doesnt allow the vibrating jig to roll as much when coming over a limb, so less snags.
Yeah, the old Senko Lite. No salt if memory serves. They were an attempt at a floating worm style I believe. I have two packs of the merthiolate left as well as the yellow even a nightcrawler brown color.
Hmmm… I only use craw style soft plastic on black and blue and green pumpkin blades. Every other color I throw swimming style trailers. But this video made me think.
Juice! I Figured out the stick bait trailer in South Korea because I had so little tackle I could bring. I cut my dingers down and put it on a jack hammer and it not only looked absolutely deadly, it was!!
I watched a Bill Dance episode of him fishing a bladed jig without a trailer it tripped me out which I'm sure he was probably in a stocked lake but it still seemed strange
Do you have signups for a newsletter? Reason I ask is I enjoy the videos for your favorite certain baits. Problem I have is trying to write them down, much like as a checklist for tackle boxes. I understand everyone has their favorite go to baits, but I'd like to have lists as a reference for myself and to share. Thanks for your time.
For flat bottom parallel to surface of the water to look like a dying fish flapping try Live Target's skip shad (which great on an unweighted EWG hook)
I like a Hog Farmer Spunk Shad or the Big Bite Baits Swimon on the back of my chatterbaits myself. lots of secondary action. I have not tried the Stinger's or the beaver style Berkley baits rigged as a swimmer just yet. I also like the idea of using a stick bait I will definitely be giving that a try, I already use the Stick baits on my swim jigs for a different profile look. Thanks for the great tips Matt!
Everybody talks about water clarity pretty much when fishing any type of bait. My question is if you have water clarity say in the 1-3 foot range or what ever will that clarity carry through the entire water column say to 12 or 15 feet or more?
Hey Matt, is it common for the original z man chatters to not start up right away? It seems I rarely buy one that doesn’t require me to pump it before it vibrates.
Everyone talks about the Zako, but no one mentions the Z-Man Razor Shad. Great action and lasts longer. Definitely like the stick bait, never seen it, will definitely try it.
One of my go to trailers is a stingray grub rigged vertically. H&H Lure Company has some great colors. I trim the skirt add a 3 inch stingray type grub for a compact presentation. Another great video!!
I usually cut one of the claw looking parts on the beaver trailer make it look like a crawfish with one claw, idk why the smallies love that wounded look in my waters.
Thanks Matt. Trailers make or break the chatterbait. People are worried about having the most expensive chatterbait but give no thought to trailers. Flapping horizontal trailers work great for hopping a chatterbait or bumping bottom on retrieve. Zoom speed worms cut to about 4.5" works great as a trailer and allows max hunting action. Alot of ripped craws and creature baits work as trailers in a pinch.
Wow. Never thought about a senko or rigging a creature bait like that. I use a zman goat 99% , and once in a blue moon I’ll try a missile shockwave. Really need to rethink the chatterbait after this
I agree. I use a lot more straight tailed than appendage types. They all have a place. Most times I'm 12-24" visibility. No one ever answered about bending the blade to different angles. One package says to experiment, what do you think? Thanks.
What length trailer are you pairing with the normal size (not mini max) 3/8-1/2 oz jig? 4 inch is what I’ve used but some of these only come in 3.5 or 4.5 lengths and sometimes im having to cut the skirt for a 3 inch trailer and 4.5+ seems to big for the hook
I use a fluke or super fluke with good results. I also use a baby or tiny fluke with a small finesse style chatter bait that will also be very effective for Sac-A-Lait(Crappie).
No, but I have tried the Berkley Jerk Shad with great results when the bite is slow. I will sometimes cut an inch to an inch and a half off the front end and shorten and thin the skirt out. I will even taper the sides a little to cut down on the bulk.
Thank you for this video, the bladed jig is the one bait. I don't really have confidence in yet since I started fishing again. I'm hoping that'll change this year. Just got my order of slobberknockers and power stingers in the mail so I'm looking forward to trying those out this year and hopefully ending the no fish streak on the blade of jig. Just trying to watch any video relating to bladed jigs lately and they have all added just a tidbit to knowledge base that I didn't have yet
I live in Central Florida. I've typically used a 4" Powerbait twister tail with success. Your thoughts? Also, chatterbaits seem to significantlt not work as well as a year or more ago. Are they conditioned and do I need to try to find the next best trend?
Be it a vibrating jig or spinner bait I like using a stick bait. Sometimes cut down, sometimes whole. My swim jig's it's a different story, probably cause my waters are a bit different. One lake has boulders that can hide a VW with tons of bluff's. It's probably my favorite one.
I've gotten to where I never use a flappy ridged craw or boot-tailed trailer on my bladed jigs. For me, flukes do a great job of mimicking bait fish. A Powerstinger is another great choice. But here's the juice...if you can get your hands on some Berkley Craw Fatties, those things are just magical on the back of a slobberknocker. I turn them sideways on the hook to better mimic a fish's tail and fish it almost like a swim jig with jerks, stops, and rips. It's something slightly different those bass haven't seen and I am catching piles of quality fish; several over 6 pounds.
This is why I need to become rich and famous. I will design them from slim to flappers to leeches. How you make carp flies is how you ought to make trout flies. Ooooh yeah!
I haven’t fished chatterbaits a lot. But other trailers such as curl tail grunbs and twin tail grubs would work as well. And a crappie slider like a boot tail swim bait would work as well.
I usually slap on a paddle tail or a fluke style bait for a trailer. Never really had luck with craw or beavertails on them. I'll give a worm a try though.
I find it funny. Some of these guys I know. Say!!! After a year I throw or give my soft plastics away. Because they think 🤔 that they go bad. And !! Fish won’t bite on them. But the last time I checked. Isn’t salt a preservative???? I found that you store in the package sealed tight. And also store in bulk ziplock bags. They last forever. Also Berkeley powerbaits last forever that way too. Just trying too save some people money 💰. ((. I’ve pulled baits stored that way for like 🤔🤔🤔🤔. Iff the power bait smell Is still there. ????? Game on. Just saying
I was expecting something like Klingon cranial ridges from your description beforehand of the infamous battle scar on the old 'noggin'. Hardly noticeable, bud. In fact, rather disappointing. I've had uglier head wounds after criticizing my wife's cooking : )
sure wish you wold back your talk with some c atching vids.....anyone can sit behind a camera and say all the key words and catch phrases ( no pun intended) but the ones who show me the juice catches on vids GET MY MONEY. So why not increase your salary and show more real life catches?!?!
When you live up north like Matt and myself you take what you can get. It's 17 today dropping down to 11deg in the mornings. The water in these parts are a little hard.
Ultra bite hormone bit-enhancer.originally for tropical fish to make them eat when importing into the USA on longer sold other than in a bait .this stuff is not a joke I’ll fish it behind anyone Dr juice was a fist in this line of sense that target fear .
🤯 the stick bait on it looks amazing!
yep!
Still experimenting with chatterbaits, no luck yet but I will try these tips out 😉
Good luck!
Great info here. Thanks for the reminders. Good luck down south!!
thanks!
Thanks Matt, really enjoyed that one !!!!
great!

Right on!
Great video!!! Thanks for sharing those excellent tips!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
Thanks for watching!
Been run’n a 90 gilly. Works incredibly well.
awesome!
I thought about trying this.
I use a beaver style with the flatside down when fishing lay downs. It doesnt allow the vibrating jig to roll as much when coming over a limb, so less snags.
good tip!
Excellent. But in muddy conditions the Spinnerbait is my weapo of choice.
good bait!
Yeah, the old Senko Lite. No salt if memory serves. They were an attempt at a floating worm style I believe. I have two packs of the merthiolate left as well as the yellow even a nightcrawler brown color.
they are good ones!
Such good info, always. Thank you!
You bet!
Not sure about your sponsorships, as far as talking about other baits, but the Hog Farmer Spunk Shad is RIDICULOUS on a chatterbait.
ill check it out!
Matt Great break down on these baits. Thanks for sharing 👍
You bet
Good luck next week in Florida
Can't wait!
Yep
thanks for watching!
Super informative video, I know I have experimented with many different trailers and I find what your saying to be spot on, great job!!!
thanks!
Good information Matt. I am interested in trying the straight tail trailer in the spring.
good luck!
Hmmm… I only use craw style soft plastic on black and blue and green pumpkin blades. Every other color I throw swimming style trailers. But this video made me think.
give it a try!
This was very helpful. It makes good sense. The subtleties of fishing are SO challenging.
agreed!
I like using an old school Zoom twin tail spinnerbait trailer most of the time. It just works!
awesome!
Is that a big foot poster behind you ? Lol love it
haha
I use the KVD blad minnow. Great video, Matt
Good stuff
Juice! I Figured out the stick bait trailer in South Korea because I had so little tackle I could bring. I cut my dingers down and put it on a jack hammer and it not only looked absolutely deadly, it was!!

Glad you enjoyed it!
I watched a Bill Dance episode of him fishing a bladed jig without a trailer it tripped me out which I'm sure he was probably in a stocked lake but it still seemed strange
it works!
Take craw turn 1/4 turn and put back on the bladed jig.
thanks for watching
I like cutting down those chartreuse tailed stick baits to around 3" for regular spinnerbaits and chatterbaits, and keep whole ones for 3/4 oz and up.
sounds good!
Gotta say I love the inventive versitile tutorials. Something most vids don't have. It's 🔥
thanks!
I found that the boot tail swim bait paddle doesn't flop around great. I flipped them up side down and the tail action increased. Have you tried that?
interesting
I know it's not a big brand. But I love the 10000fish Yoto Worm for a vibrating jig trailer.
thanks for sharing!
I mostly use a roboworm ned worm now on chatterbaits and spinnerbaits, but I'll still run a zoom ultravibe speed craw on project z chatterbaits.
sounds good!
Good points and tips 👍
Thanks 👍
What about using a bellows gill style of bait. it can be used vertical or horizontal but does not have any flapping tail.
worth a shot!

Very cool!
I've been using stick baits as a trailer for a while now. Gotta say my first time didn't feel right, but now I know how it hits.
Great video ++
Good stuff!
Matt what kinda set up you using for that big Rapala you got behind you?
haha
Does Bridgeford like the bigfoot cutout in the back ground? Lol
haha
@@MattStefanFishing I had just watched an old video talking about your bigfoot sighting. Had to say something. You give great tips
I’m gonna try a Swedish Fish for a trailer this year. At least if I don’t catch any fish I can eat my trailer…
i like it!
Thanks Matt! I really like the stickbait idea!
Glad you like it!
Everybody talks about water clarity pretty much when fishing any type of bait. My question is if you have water clarity say in the 1-3 foot range or what ever will that clarity carry through the entire water column say to 12 or 15 feet or more?
sometimes
Good video! One of my favorites is the Strike King Shellcracker. Unfortunately discontinued, but have a good stash lol.
Nice!
I'm jealous of those methiolate senkos!! Do you use the full 5" or cut it down.
both
Great content as always!:))
Glad you think so!
Hey Matt, is it common for the original z man chatters to not start up right away? It seems I rarely buy one that doesn’t require me to pump it before it vibrates.
I’m not a fan of the original version unless it’s the tackle warehouse exclusive model that starts up faster
I like the Missle Baits Spunk Shad. I also like the stick bait trailer.
awesome!
Everyone talks about the Zako, but no one mentions the Z-Man Razor Shad. Great action and lasts longer. Definitely like the stick bait, never seen it, will definitely try it.
its a good one!
You should check out the Hog Farmer spunk shad on a bladed jig it's crazy how good they look
Agree! That spunk shad is the best on a bladed jig.
Great action, sometimes to much. Cold water I tone down the action a little.
will do!
SPUNK SHADS in junebug...omgosh..hang on to your rod...
@@dff-zy9wp what skirt color you using junebug with?? This a Florida thing or something?
Thanks Matt. All I see is muskie and pike eating my vibrating jigs. I just stocked up for JUNE.
haha!

The Hog Farmer (or Missile Baits) spunk shad is the best. It's like the boot tail with the boot clipped off. You gotta try it. Max action.
ill give it a try!
Great video matt, would you consider a craw style bait when you’re fishing pre spawn around rocks or go with the bait fish profile
Absolutely
Cant wait to throw a vibrating jig with any trailer. Winter blows….
yes it does
You can trim the boot tail some and the bait has more action!
thanks for watching
Ever put a stinger hook on your chatterbait?
nope
Whenever I use a chatter bait or vibrating jig, they never vibrate. Any clue why?
your clip is on backwards
@@MattStefanFishing what’s the clip?

try a grub tail...they work awesome and hardly anyone does it
I always like trailers others aren't using, thanks I'll give it a try.
Thank you! What size Senko do you like the best for the trailer?
4 and 5"
I throw a fluke and spunk shad exclusively
nice!
We use the Triune worm for this exact reason. Love the tips!

Wow. Never thought about a senko or rigging a creature bait like that. I use a zman goat 99% , and once in a blue moon I’ll try a missile shockwave. Really need to rethink the chatterbait after this

I need to try the powerstinger & a straight tail worm, primarily I use the Rage menace and the Z-man Razor Shadz 🎣

it will change the vibration!
I struggle to find a trailer for the coleslaw color slobberknocker. What exactly is that color trying to imitate?
its just bright and obnoxious

Growing up in the north it’s always funny how clear water is thought to be 1 ft viz, meanwhile I would debate calling 3 ft clear😂
yep!
Do you still use Berkley Powerbait The Deal? Are they phasing it out for this new model?
yep i still love it!
I live in Central Florida. I've typically used a 4" Powerbait twister tail with success. Your thoughts? Also, chatterbaits seem to significantlt not work as well as a year or more ago. Are they conditioned and do I need to try to find the next best trend?
