My beloved soulmate, my best friend, my wife, my Irene, passed away from cancer this past Feb at the age of 50. This song kills me. I cry so hard. I just discovered it a month ago. I try to listen to it every day. I love her so much. She loved me more and harder. I will never be loved like that again. We started dating when I was 18 and she was 17. Married 9 years later. 34 years together. We grew up together. Built an amazing life together. Raised 6 children. 3 biological and three of my nieces who we call daughters. We had such wondrous plans for the future and then she was stolen from me. Friends said they could see the love we had for each other every time they looked at us. They said we were writing the greatest love story ever told. Then it was over. I am left to carry on and build something from the ashes of eternal grief. Even when I have a "good" day, it will never be as good as it was with her. I don't think I will ever have a great day again. Every achievement by my kids or myself will have sadness.

I vaguely remembered the original, but had never heard this version by Luke Evans. I cannot make it through without shedding tears, but I wouldn't change that for the world. This hauntingly beautiful rendition is the song of my broken heart to her as it tries to mend. It captures the intimate memories shared with my beloved wife, almost as if I am reliving them, if even for a brief moment, every time I listen. I frequently find myself putting it on repeat and just savoring the memories. For that, I am ever grateful that Luke Evans recorded this. Thank you, sir.

Omygoodness....he absolutely nailed it! This song was sung by one of my long time favorites, Roberta Flack back in 1972....and have been in love with this song ever since. She sang with such soul, that it still makes me cry to this day. Mr. Evans reached that space within my soul and made me cry...not many do, but he hit the mark inside of me so well. Very well done Mr. Evans...well done!

SO, I just rationalized to myself I don't treat myself too often, and except my rescue kitty, Bobb, No one special in my life to treat me either..... Growing up in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, Roberta Flack will always be my favorite version of this song. She was an original, one of a kind. She made you feel every emotion that the song was meant to do. With that said, this is an amazing version and he is an outstanding vocalist and actor. Some people just seem to have it all. Keep up the great work Luke.

@@trevystrickland7332 Yes, i agree. This version is outstanding and no doubt my second best. But, Roberta is still "Killing me softly" when i hear her sing. And then "The closer i get to you" brings back wonderful high school memories and Valerie. Our favorite song to each other at the time. I keep my truck radio on 70s music most of the time. Todays music just doesnt compare and doesnt bring out the emotions. Have a great day and thanks for the comment.
