Damn. You guys in Japan are extremely lucky to have this track. This is probably one of the best tracks they’ve ever done and while I do like they’re modern sound, man unless I haven’t heard enough, I love this side the most (their cleans are some of the best I’ve ever heard). Also this feels like a classic Doom song, this really fits right in there.
Dave Torres yeah this has way more of the melodic jazz fusion feel that DEI had. Would have been a cool intermission track on DEI but definitely out of place on Chaosphere sound wise
Meshuggapeth Bb standard on a 7-string is the same tuning as Eb standard on a 6-string and F standard on an 8-string: they're all tuned down one semitone from the standard guitar tuning. It's just more correct to say that Meshuggah play in Bb standard, as you're supposed to go by naming the tuning in reference to whatever the first string is tuned to. Personally though, I find it confusing to say it that way without specifying you're playing a 7-string or 8-string, as someone could misinterpret what you say and think that you're playing in Bb standard in reference to the 6th string, E, i.e. you're playing SIX semitones down from standard tuning instead of just ONE (like Boris for example), and therefore your 7th string, B, would be tuned down to F INSTEAD of Bb. Therefore, I always go by naming guitar tunings in reference to a 6-string, so as to avoid any confusion for extended range guitars. As for the similarities between this song and "I Can't Remember," both songs are using a heavy chorus effect for their guitar tones: something that a lot of Alt Rock and Metal bands in the late 80s and 90s, including Meshuggah and especially Alice In Chains, seemed to love doing. But most importantly, the chords/chord progressions being played sound very similar to each other as I said before. In fact, some of them are probably the same. But yes, for a very unique sounding band like Meshuggah, it is quite odd that they'd make a song that would sound even remotely similar to another band's song...
this song really reminds me of sol niger within, the clean part to be precise. the harmonies also remind me of old meshuggah stuff from contradictions.

Apparently it was supposed to be in between The Mouth Licking What You've Bled and Sane. Would've been a chill but foreboding in the middle track like Acrid Placidity from Destroy Erase Improve. Which I think would've fit much better than just plopping it right at the end since most people would tune out after the first few minutes of Elastic

Both bands play in Eb standard: only difference is the amount of strings on their guitars. They're most likely playing a similar chord progression.
