Hello everyone, news just in that Endeavour will be concluding with the 9th series. Sad news but I'm sure the writers will make the most of the final episodes and give us an ending to remember. Maybe about time. Season 8 seemed a bit thin. No where to go from here. The good bits of character development appear to have played themselves out and we’re just recycling the characters through new situations with predicable results. All things come to an end. It happens. Besides, we know where it all has to lead thanks to the beloved serious, Morse. We can’t even yell at the tele, “for God’s sake man, shit or get off the pot.” We already know he’s destined to a life of doing neither. No point in breaking our hearts further with the Endeavor/Joan thing. We know there’s no hope and time to move on. No point in dwelling, what. Stiff upper lip and all... I just hope they don’t do to Endeavor what they did with Sherlock, that is, end it with a pathetically written and far too fantastic grand flourish (like the end of a fireworks exhibit) which just left a bad taste in me mouth for the memory of the whole project which I so enjoyed in the beginning. Don’t do that, please! And no middle aged, midquel. If ya try anything like that, we’re comin’ for ya!
I haven't watched Endeavour. Judging by the clips I've seen on YT, I didn't miss much. I never really got into Morse tbh. I'm not a big John Thaw fan, God rest his soul. On the other hand, I loved Lewis. I bought all 9 series on DVD. DS Hathaway was the star of the show, although it's a shame that Laurence Fox is, in real life, a far right d*ck, who has destroyed his acting career, but, one of those things, I suppose. I've watched episodes of Morse on catch up. It's OK, but just so - so IMHO. This Endeavour script comes across as a bit up itself. It is very clunky, contrived and obvious. Very much aimed at the American market, PBS and all that. Frankly, there are much better dramas on BBC iPlayer, including cop shows, especially those set in Scotland or Northern Ireland. I'm rewatching Shetland at present; (the Jimmy Perez episodes.) Rebus is good, as was Blue Lights. Bloodlands with James Nesbitt was bl**dy fantastic, when I can understand what they're on about. (It's set in Naaaarrtherrrn Iirrrelaand.) As for old John Thaw, the Sweeney was very big during my schooldays, the 1970s. I didn't watch it, tbh, but it's funny how the coppers played by Thaw, went from brutal Flying Squad operative to clever Oxford drop out and intellectual. I didn't watch the Sweeney on tv. I had more than enough real life going on around me at the time.
If he REALLY loved her, perhaps he understood that being a copper's wife would put her in a position of great danger. Real life gangsters would put pressure or get to HIM, by going after or threatening HER. If he really loved her, he wouldn't want to expose her to that. And the late 60s and 1970s were a brutal time, in gangland circles.
There are no words 😢 💔 there faces say it all , if only morse had the courage to admit he was deeply in love with her ..the one that got away. Think we can all relate. Morse would have done anything for Joan. Emotive and heart wrenchingly beautiful. Thankyou x
Shawn Evans is a scouser (Liverpool lad) and Sarah Vickers is Scottish. Both places couldn't be furthered removed from the city of the spires. Just goes to show how fine of actors they both are.
The best episode for my cinema club is Session 7 when Morse goes to Venice! What a wonderful performance of Shaun Evans!! His love of opera and poetry, his elegance , his deep voice and his sensitive intelligent face and eyes. In California we are tired of Hollywood movies and consider Endeavor the best tv series of Masterpiece!!!

I loved the first two seasons of Endeavour, but knowing Morse and Joan felt like that and knowing they don't end up together? It hurts to even think about. I'm not sure I want to get my heart broken. Gorgeous video, though.
The most impressive feature of the series is the very good use of historical places. the details are amazing. Fred had a very strong performance. morse is a phenomenon. And the result is a great series. Wishing you many more seasons. good luck
Those who know the original Morse, know that he never married. However, for goodness sake, can the writers at least give us a few episodes where Joan and Morse get together! After all, the feelings they have for each other is so obvious! Even if it never works out in the end…she dies ,moves away , marries someone else, whatever, just let them be together at least once!
The character has been built too shy for daring an avance. I wonder how he could have had a liaison with his neighbour, the nurse.🤔 Before watching this series, I watched the one with John Thaw: in each episode he finds someone to "fall in love with", but he never reaches a conclusion....🙄
I don’t like Joan. I’m on season 4 , she s with the married man, treats her mom and dad with no respect or care I find myself fast forwarding scenes she’s in .
For me this series was infinitely better than the original Morse. Shaun Evans is an incredible actor, the writing is much better than the original Morse and the scripts far more interesting. I would love them to remake the original Morse with Shaun Evans as the lead. The only down side for me is that I simply cannot believe that Miss Thursday married Strange. Morse went out with several women in the series, so why did he not take out his true love which we know to be Miss Thursday. That scene where Miss Thursday bids farewell to Morse is truly outstanding acting. The tears in Morse’s eyes and the emotion on his face is heart breaking. I must now track down Shaun Evans and see what other drama’s of his are available. I have watched Endeavour 3 times and I could be due another viewing.
I never saw the original Inspector Morse but found out the (sad) ending as I was watching the excellent Endeavour series. It’s too heartbreaking that he never gets together with a special someone and is essentially alone most of his life. 😥😥😥

Where are you from? I would like my friends abroad to see this but it seems they can't, unless I buy them DVDs! It's so good to see someone who isn't English who has watched this. I can tell you, it portrays the England of my childhood just as i remember it, so this love story is very poignant.

The beautiful little love story? of Morse and Miss Thursday that weaves through the seasons from the moment they first meet to theheartwrenching(literally!) vulnerable moment when all he can think of to do is propose to save her honor? protect her? without being able to say why or what he really wants to is so painful and you captured all those little subtleties in between,some I never even noticed;the half smiles, side glances,inferences in their dialogues as well as others. I won't spoil what goes on from there but it is this and more as in the outcomes? of most of Endeavour's doomed romances that Russell Lewis really fills the background on in how he later becomes the semi-tragic? figure of Chief Inspector Morse. Thankyou so much for this creation!

In the Inspector Morse series, Detective Inspector Strange is married to a wife named Allison. One possibility for the final series is that Joan and Morse get together but that she leaves or is killed before they can marry. Or she decides she can no longer live in a law enforcement family.

We know that Morse never marries, but, why can’t the writers at least let them be together for whatever length of time? They obviously have deep feelings for each other… it’s palpable!!
i've always thought the chemistry between joan and morse is very similar to the chemistry in midsomer murders between barnaby's daughter cully and his sergeants gavin troy and daniel scott

I don’t know how else unrequited love could be defined. These encounters between Endeavor and Joan were poignant. In keeping with a stiff upper lip, Morse called the love of his life “Ms Thursday”. One so hoped for a really all out passionate scene between them. But the heavens and the script writers wouldn’t.
Morse's romantic passion ran deep. We first saw it when he met the magnificent and beautiful opera singer whose albums had taught a lonely and unloved 12-year-old Endeavour that there was beauty in the world. (OK, yes, she was a murderer but no one is perfect.) Then there was the unbridled passion he shared in Venice with the flawed, married womn who gave her life to save him. He knew joy with the French photojournalist, at least until she chided him after an afternon of passion that "It's not love: it's just sex." What followed was a lengthy and painful silence during which Morse's face agonizingly processed the significance of that statement. The nurse, the most objectively good and decent woman he dated, had the misfortune to come along during a turbulent time when Morse became a recluse. He was fond of her and even unenthusiastically proposed to her, but did not see in her a love to last the years. Joan Thursday commanded his heart most completely. Such a shame she could not share the decades that followed.
Yes, they are adorable together, but why has the series tortured us (and Morse) with false hopes? Of course, it has to be this way simply because it's a prequel.

This unforfilled love explains all.Breaks your heart. But the most heartbreaking is that she marries to this bleak guy Strange. And that Strange becomes Morse boss.So tragic. Perfectly backways scripting the history of the elder Morse.Makes him even more inderstandable.The later tragedy of Lewis wife ,when he is in the lead.The introducing of Hathaway.Sheer magic.Prequel and sequels.All of them .i love them so much.As a dutch men i love this typical british drama.
I would rather have seen Joan die that married to Strange! How could everyone ignore the obvious; Joan and Morse were so in love. He really didn’t need to say he loved her when his actions spoke volumes. They shared more than she and Jim ever did. He was always the one she turned to and confided in; he was the one who tracked her down, kept her secrets, and stood between her and a bullet!
that would have carried more weight than her marrying strange now you mention it and it would make more sense why the thursdays were never mentioned in morse's future

Endeavor in my opinion scores at 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. However, they denied us this marriage, and for that I am upset, angry and grieved. He should have allowed Morse to marry.

Great writing, excellent direction and outstanding acting in the series Endeavour! And yet, an extremely unconvincing development of Morse's relationship on a personal level - according to him, intelligence and personal happiness are incompatible concepts?! I don't believe that in Scotland or Wales this is characteristic of young people, rather in England and hardly unreal in Europe. Being smart and a gentleman, having an analytical mind and an iron logical thought does not mean that you cannot love and be a happy person. I am so sorry about Joan's illogical marriage! She deserves to be with Morse!
I wish they would just make one more episode, where they meet after her marriage. He calls her Joan now, the defenses are down and they just talk openly and kiss, knowing it can never be but they will always love each other deeply.
We vave loved this serie because of probable personage! We love the persons, but this last season is badly written as to the story, but still moments to enjoy the actors . The story has adapted to incredible nowadays horrortv.....bad story but actors to love!
After the bank heist I really thought that the two of them would become a couple. But then it would never end well because Joan obviously doesn't want to marry a cop. PC Trewlove would have been perfect for Morse.
Such a beautiful idea. I think that love story,were coming so gently into this I for once didn't really realize it until it was too late. I just noticed a kind of sadness or emotional hole. I know kind of slow! But this is also a crime story i liked. Suddenly or perhaps not that suddenly it suddenly was in full disclosure. They are just so fine actors. Strange Fred or especially her mother didn't really realize it. By the way she is a charming woman

It's fantastic how carefully the characters are chosen in these British detective series. They are, as it were, tailor-made for the actors...

In the Inspector Morse series, Detective Inspector Strange is married to a wife named Allison. One possibility for the final series is that Joan and Morse get together but that she leaves or is killed before they can marry. Or she decides she can no longer live in a law enforcement family.

One of my biggest regrets is that I've been to London a dozen times and somehow I never made the time to go to Oxford. But next time for sure! What a gorgeous place.

I don’t know how else unrequited love could be defined. These encounters between Endeavor and Joan were poignant. In keeping with a stiff upper lip, Morse called the love of his life “Ms Thursday”. One so hoped for a really all out passionate scene between them. But the heavens and the script writers wouldn’t.
Morse's romantic passion ran deep. We first saw it when he met the magnificent and beautiful opera singer whose albums had taught a lonely and unloved 12-year-old Endeavour that there was beauty in the world. (OK, yes, she was a murderer but no one is perfect.)
Then there was the unbridled passion he shared in Venice with the flawed, married womn who gave her life to save him.
He knew joy with the French photojournalist, at least until she chided him after an afternon of passion that "It's not love: it's just sex." What followed was a lengthy and painful silence during which Morse's face agonizingly processed the significance of that statement.
The nurse, the most objectively good and decent woman he dated, had the misfortune to come along during a turbulent time when Morse became a recluse. He was fond of her and even unenthusiastically proposed to her, but did not see in her a love to last the years.
Joan Thursday commanded his heart most completely. Such a shame she could not share the decades that followed.

Yes, they are adorable together, but why has the series tortured us (and Morse) with false hopes? Of course, it has to be this way simply because it's a prequel.
The writers have definitely teased this storyline for a very long time, they've got our hopes high! Maybe they don't even know how to end it yet?

This unforfilled love explains all.Breaks your heart. But the most heartbreaking is that she marries to this bleak guy Strange. And that Strange becomes Morse boss.So tragic. Perfectly backways scripting the history of the elder Morse.Makes him even more inderstandable.The later tragedy of Lewis wife ,when he is in the lead.The introducing of Hathaway.Sheer magic.Prequel and sequels.All of them .i love them so much.As a dutch men i love this typical british drama.

I would rather have seen Joan die that married to Strange! How could everyone ignore the obvious; Joan and Morse were so in love. He really didn’t need to say he loved her when his actions spoke volumes. They shared more than she and Jim ever did. He was always the one she turned to and confided in; he was the one who tracked her down, kept her secrets, and stood between her and a bullet!
that would have carried more weight than her marrying strange now you mention it and it would make more sense why the thursdays were never mentioned in morse's future

Endeavor in my opinion scores at 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. However, they denied us this marriage, and for that I am upset, angry and grieved. He should have allowed Morse to marry.

I wish they would just make one more episode, where they meet after her marriage. He calls her Joan now, the defenses are down and they just talk openly and kiss, knowing it can never be but they will always love each other deeply.
We vave loved this serie because of probable personage! We love the persons, but this last season is badly written as to the story, but still moments to enjoy the actors . The story has adapted to incredible nowadays horrortv.....bad story but actors to love!
After the bank heist I really thought that the two of them would become a couple. But then it would never end well because Joan obviously doesn't want to marry a cop. PC Trewlove would have been perfect for Morse.

Such a beautiful idea. I think that love story,were coming so gently into this I for once didn't really realize it until it was too late. I just noticed a kind of sadness or emotional hole. I know kind of slow! But this is also a crime story i liked. Suddenly or perhaps not that suddenly it suddenly was in full disclosure. They are just so fine actors. Strange Fred or especially her mother didn't really realize it. By the way she is a charming woman
