- On 25th of November 2022 the very last episode for the final series of Endeavour (Series 9) was recorded in Air Lyndhurst Hall. London Metropolitan Orchestra have recorded all the music for Endeavour since its commencement in 2012.
Endeavour composer Matt Slater who also conducted LMO, scored for 50 strings, 8 woodwinds (including piccolo, alto flute, cor anglais, bass clarinet and contra bassoon), 9 brass (including flugelhorn), harp, piano and guitar - the largest orchestra ever convened for Endeavour. LMO was led by Janice Graham.
At the end of the session, lead members of cast and crew sat among the orchestra, as LMO recorded the famous Inspector Morse Theme written by Barrington Pheloung for the very last time with solo guitarist Craig Ogden.

@@nataliehladun744 Everything has its time, including the personality you're presently identifying with as 'me'. This series (and theme music) goes far deeper than what you (probably) think. Don't concentrate on the surface plots but look (and listen) into what is really being conveyed through the underlying symbolism. It's telling you somerhing!

When the British entertainment industry truly applies itself to a task, the result is a stunning and unmatched work of art. Such was Endeavour and such was this performance.
A few humble comments....I adore Endeavour, I saw every episode and this final one affected me deeply. The exquisite acting and that final scene with Morse and Thursday saying goodbye had me heaving with sobs. Watched it twice and the other two episodes as well. I don't think this series will ever be topped by anything or any other cast of actors. Simply put it was perfection. Thank you to all the creative and brilliant people who gave us so much pleasure over the years.

I cannot give Endeavour up....I have the series on constant rotation and watch it nearly daily💖....the actors, the feeling, the time, all unsurpassed.
That last episode was absolutely superb, especially as it was said that, in Thursday, Morse had "the best teacher". Thank you for your comments. 😊😊

Haunt me forever. What a genius that man was. Gone far too soon.
I have a friend, named Barrington, and at our first meeting ( back in January, 2014 ), this was what I said ; "... You are the first Barrington that I am seeing in real life, after one of my favourite composer... ". The look on his face, made me chuckle, because he was obviously not into Classical music. Suffice to say, I told him about this genius, and his work.
I never got into the series after 'Inspector Morse ', and my memory of Oxford, were etched in the scenes, attached to the UA-cam video, that I first saw.
Oops, I should get off "... the soap box ... " 😊.

At hearing this theme at the end of the very first episode, I wept. The beauty of the French horns repeated crescendos evokes my deepest emotions, causing me to empathize with Endeavour’s longing for love and desire to belong to someone; to family. Shaun Evans’ portrayal is so authentic, I just want to find him and give him a hug! One of my most favorite series ever.

The best, 10 out of 10 Crime TV series, and the best theme song I have ever heard for years. Endeavor is not a 3 time watch. It's a watch every year kind of drama, i cried when it ended. Thank you so much to everyone who worked on this series, it got me through my dark days in New York, watching it on PBS Masterpiece mystery every Sunday night was a treat. last episode just aired here in Perth WA, March 2024, so this music reduced me yet again to an emotional overload... the very best sort i think you will all agree, thank you for an awesome production!!
The final episode airs here in the US this Sunday. I've been listening to this music all week. Every time the French horns let loose at 7:38 I feel overcome with melancholy and something almost like grief as I think about this series ending. I've watched it on PBS since the initial pilot episode, and I've seen every season multiple times. 'Endeavour' is a classic, and I think it will age well - even better than Morse and Lewis (imho). The writing, storytelling, acting, music, cinematography, set design, and the gorgeous backdrop of Oxford all combined in a magical, difficult-to-repeat way.

Every Masterpiece production is exquisite in its own right, but ENDEAVOUR is on another plane altogether: writing, cast and crew, settings …. MUSIC. So terribly sad at the natural conclusion, but terribly grateful for this truly epic series. I plan to loop the 8:34 minutes of beauty here which I hope will hold me in good stead going forward. Thank you everyone involved in this masterfully produced series.
Totally agree. I think Endeavour is the real 'jewel in the crown' of Masterpiece, which is saying something because so many of the productions are stellar. The Morse/Endeavour theme music is one of the best on TV ever - almost as good as the 1981 Brideshead Revisited soundtrack!

This music has so much emotion in it. Captivating. What a gifted composer. The series was just superb. The best of television. I hope it won lots of awards.
That was so gorgeous! The first piece of music sounded similar to that used in Pylon. It was wonderful to see some of the cast of Endeavour watching the musicians as they played, and I’m sure they enjoyed it just as much as I did. Thank you for making, and posting, this video.

I love how the beginning of Endeavour's theme that it sounds like morse code, relating to the character's name. I didn't realize that before now, absolutely fantastic and beautiful piece!
It also spells "MORSE", was the same in the original Inspector Morse theme. It's a very neat motif!

I cried in the last episode and sadly a year after the end of the tv series John Thaw died of esophageal cancer. He was only 60 years old. May he RIP 💔🕯

The Endeavour séries has just been shown on French t.v a few weeks back. Loved the theme tune wonderful to seeing it played, thanks. The music is both strong and moving . And seeing some of the cast members watching,they must have been moved I imagine.

The music is haunting and of course that famous theme! I love this show like so many others and it truly was a masterpiece.
It seems the hardest Endeavour to make a perfect ending let alone "good" one to such a near perfect series. But, this finale and the music bring imagery of REAL gestalt. Finality with a moment's frailty--playing Russian roulette, the death of the beginning. That's MY interpretation. To see Morse at his prime, in Bond-like tuxedo-ed perfection, Davidesque contrapposto after his requiem mass.
I’ll watch Endeavour & Morse reruns forever.

Super series, I think it managed to capture the 1960s in Britain like no other film production
I also loved the entire output of both Morse and Endeavour both brilliant series and the Morse theme just icing on the cake absolutely splendid.
My memory of John Thaw goes way back before Morse to the Sweeney also featured fast cars .

From 7:38 - 7:43 is a royal pronouncement of pure majesty. What incredible grouping of magical musicians; I'm jealous of those gathered to play this masterpiece together. Shame the show had to end...hoped they would keep making it right up to the point where Shaun Evans becomes John Thaw in the first episode of Inspector Morse, but that isn't happening, unfortunately.

I'll really miss it all, Morse started showing when I'd just got married, Saturday night was Morse night, then we've been lucky enough to have Lewis and endeavour, great actors, don't mind admitting I shed some tears listening to this one more time, British drama at its best so lucky that we had the late very great John Thaw to hook us all in the first place.
THIS is why I appreciate the Internet every once in a while. Brilliant.

Just goes to show you that you can still create unique complex and deep music without resorting to some avant-garde clap trap. The complexity of this reminds me of that in the theme music to Vera which I dearly love but confess that I still can’t fathom everything that is going on.
Listening to this is so bittersweet. Great music, great cast and great stories. Will have to experience them only in watching the episodes over and over.
