Hi Paula, My Mama made this for us for breakfast for special Saturday mornings. We used Sunshine white bread instead of biscuits. She was from Arkansas, so it was not served in Minnesota.
I served it to my family. My son made it for his 4 H cooking project. He got a blue ribbon on it. His judge asked him for the recipe. Definitely a true winner for our family. Cindy Bee from "Southern Minnesota. 😊❤
My memmaw would make chocolate gravy for all the grandchildren when we would come over to visit back home in East Tennessee. It is such a special memory for me, and i treasure making it for my family! ❤

Chocolate gravy is absolutely amazing. I had never heard of it until I was in my 20's. Had it at a restaurant in Gatlinburg, and could not believe how good it was. If you have never had chocolate gravy you don't know what you are missing!
Looks delicious, but I want my biscuits with butter or sausage gravy. I'd put chocolate gravy on ice cream or pound cake in a New York minute.
Oh let me assure you chocolate gravy and buttered biscuits with sausage is dabomb.
I WOULD CALL THIS BISCUIT & GRAVY “DEATH BY CHOCOLATE”
Paula, that looks amazing. Another thing you can do to take this recipe to a whole another level is make a homemade custard, and put in between an open biscuit to make like a sandwich with the chocolate gravy and nuts covered over it. If it was me, I would also put some chocolate shavings on top as well. Love and best dishes to you as well. ❤❤❤❤❤

What is the difference between gravy and chocolate syrup?

Hello @Chris2580Ivy, a gravy is made by using a thickener such as flour or cornstarch; whereas, syrups and sauces are simmered and reduced to the desired thickness. Teachin' not preachin' , have a marvelous day.
The gravy has a much milder flavor. Less sweet and more savory. But if you really want to know the difference, try each one with biscuits or pancakes, whatever you like. It's definitely a different flavor sensation. 😊
Well a lot of the kids I grew up with called it chocolate syrup and their moms may or may not have put flour in. My auntie put so much flour and milk in that it was more like milk chocolate and I didn't love it but I sure did eat it.
I never heard of chocolate gravy until college. I still yet to have any at 50. I'm gonna make some this weekend Dammit🤣🦋🤗😘🌹🙏🏼💝 Love you Paula!!!

I grew up in California but my parents were both from Arkansas. Mom used to make Chocolate Gravy about once a month. Every kid in tje neighborhood would show up at our breakfast table.
My mom made chocolate gravy and absolute best buttermilk biscuits in the world!! My sister makes her chocolate gravy to this day. Thanks for this video. I’m going to have to make it again. Yummo
My Mom made biscuits and chocolate gravy every Sunday morning for breakfast when I was a kid.
My grandmother and mother both made chocolate gravy. I made it for my babies and grandbabies, Now, my children make it. I even posted it on my UA-cam channel last year. Delicious!

I watched this when you originally aired it on Quarantine Cooking, which was such a comfort for me during that time. I live alone, you do the math. Anyhow, I've always wanted to make this and this Tuesday, the day after my 60th birthday, yes, I'm driving down to Waynesville, NC from NYC, I'll be in the south for 9 days, maybe while I'm there I'll give this a try. Oh my goodness, Paula!!!!! My Grandma was raised in Lowgap, Arkansas.. we ( my mother, sister, and I) took her on a trip to visit before her passing. The air bnb we stayed in served a huge breakfast and my Gma and other family members ate the chocolate gravy on their biscuits. My sister and I tried it, but we weren't crazy about it. I'm going to try your recipe. It sounds very good. Thank you for sharing. I also started watching you during covid cooking. I enjoyed watching you.

If you've had chocolate pudding, you've had chocolate gravy. Exact same ingredients, but sometimes flour is substituted with cornstarch.

You just want to make sure, you don't make it thick like a pudding. I had some in a restaurant in Huntville Alabama, and it tasted like chocolate pudding on a bisquit. It was horrible!
