@sparks1291 Forgot to ask...you aren't planning on skiing on December 10th, are you? No snow up there now and the Av Pass ski requires a good snow base and good ice over the lakes...we lucked out last December...mid-late January is the best time to start thinking about doing the route via ski.
@sparks1291 I'm guessing that finding a way across the brook below where the bridge over Marcy Dam was is still your best route...faster anyways than getting in to South Meadow (unless you are camping at South Meadow to begin with).
@sethburgess Well skiing was the original plan, but after talking with the rangers and checking the snow depth maps, it's painfully obvious that that plan won't happen. The plan has changed to do Gothics (for my 4th attempt) and hopefully Sawteeth. I actually did see your video earlier and laughed cause it was exactly what I needed to see. I'm excited to go once there's snow! And I've just been curious, how many high peaks are you at?
@sparks1291 I still haven't climbed Marshall, though a few weeks ago I did Redfield & Cliff and passed the herdpath start to Marshall via Herbert Brook. See my latest UA-cam vid for a visual reference, the location is marked by a rock cairn just north of the the wooden bridge over Herbert Brook. There is a lean-to not far off the marked trail immediately across from the rock cairn. I'd estimate about 20 min. after you pass Colden Dam, you'll come across the rock cairn and bridge.
I'll be doing this trip on December 10th, and I was wondering since Marcy Dam is washed out, would you recommend just starting at the South Meadows and taking the truck road the whole way to the dam? And also, any helpful hints about how to find the start of Marshall's herd path? I don't know if you've since completed it.
