This really brings back some good memories for me. When I was a child my Grandfather knew about a "bee tree" in our woods, and every so often he would go out and harvest some honey. He would always bring back several chunks of honeycomb, and before my Grandma extracted the honey Grandpa would give each of us a bit of honeycomb to eat. It was absolutely delicious!
One of my uncles was a beekeeper when I was growing up and his family always had at least one honeycomb from his hives on the kitchen counter to snack on. All we needed was a clean finger or spoon to scoop up a serving into our greedy mouths. Once in a while, we'd get a honeycomb to take home along with the customary, for our family, one or two half-gallon paint cans of pure fresh honey for our home. One of those would last about four to six months. In fact, we couldn't eat the hiney fast enough as the opened can would start to crystallize to where it would look like brown sugar. It was still good but it had to be heated up so it could be poured over whatever we wanted to sweeten up. Fresh honeycomb is a treat that has to be eaten at least once in a person's life.
My grandmother is a beekeeper and she's just amazing at it. She's so caring with every bee and whenever I go to her place, there's honey stored in jars and it's really delicious.
There's a lot of brush and hawthorn in my area and one of my neighbours has bees, their honey has this sort of smokey-woody flavour to it, it's very nice.
I was hoping Emmy would take small tastes of different parts of the comb she had to see if it had different flavors. I had read someone describing how different parts of the same honeycomb can taste different, which makes sense because bees may be coming back from different kinds of flowers in the same local area. That same account mentioned sometimes you can see differences in the color of the same comb. So if you see a piece that has dark and light areas, it doesn’t mean it’s gone bad, but rather the honey in those sections are a little different to each other and will taste different!
Thanks for sharing this fantastic information. I like to think that I have a sensitive palette and can scope out ingredients and variances in flavor pretty well. I have not tried honeycomb yet, but I will keep this in mind!
@@stevent8362 unless you collect wild honey, you should never be able to buy a comb with larvae, since beekeepers use separators to prevent the queen from getting into the combs
Wyo97 beeswax and coconut oil makes the best cream for winter chapped skin, rashes, even dry skin on pets (it’s great for protecting doggy paws from salt and such on icy sidewalks, since it’s totally edible). It smells wonderful too😊
Growing up, I remember my dad always having a flour tortilla with cheese and honey as a snack. One time, my mom made pancakes for breakfast & my dad put out the honey instead of syrup & us kids didn't appreciate it, haha; Now, as adult, i appreciate more flavors & haven't been able to find a honey that had that similar quality I tasted that day.
In South Korea there is a very popular pizza dish called Gorgonzola pizza (Gorgonzola is the type of cheese) and it’s basically a very flat cheese pizza. The key point about this dish is that it is dipped in honey. It is a very popular dish and very delicious!
I understand that most beekeepers keep the honeycomb frame and just take the cap off? Which makes more sense to me, the bees already work so hard making honey anyway.

I was still a little young though so when he passed away my mamaw had to get rid of all of his bees and stuff but if I was a little older at the time I would of taken over cause it was just a super cool experience! My favorite part was taking a hot knife and cutting the comb out of the trays
I ate honeycomb when we visited thr beekeepers at the gardening school in Germany when I was a kid and it was honestly the tastiest thing I ever tried. Not only the taste but the texture is amazing. I didn't know you could buy them like that we got them straight from the hive.

Thank you for the amazing vid! I had no idea that you were a bee keeper! Honey has always fascinated me... It's antibacterial, you can actually buy medical grade honey for wound dressing to keep out infection, it's called Manuka honey. If the honey was made from Rhododendrons then you might actually be feeling loopy! (Your honey is most likely not made from Rhododendrons of course😋) There are toxins when the honey is made from this flower that can cause some pretty interesting and even dangerous side effects! It's called mad honey.
I had a surgical incision that would not heal, and I started packing it with medical grade manuka honey. I had developed an allergy to neomycin trying to heal that darn wound, from using it so long, but the honey healed it in a few weeks. I also recommend it for skinned knees or deep cuts, you just want to avoid getting it on in tact skin under the gauze or bandage as much as possible. It was amazing!
The cone has always been my favorite,my neighbor had honey bees when I was growing up and he would always give my mom a big chunk of it Everytime he harvested,we were never without honey in our house.. Honey on a fresh hot buttered biscuit can't be beat.
Her: I don’t know a lot about beekeeping, I haven’t tried honey comb in a long time Also her: Hmmm it tastes like spring honey with a hint of floral and sweetness 🤔🤔🤔 *This is a joke I just thought this was funny xd*
I remember correctly taste of "unripe" honey (when it's collected to early). My dad gave me some to try and it was a bit tangy. Definitely something to try when you have your own bees. Delicious!!!!
I had no idea that was even a thing? I assumed the same batch of honey would taste the same as soon as it was produced by the bees as it would when it was harvested, or even after months of storage since it’s supposed to be completely stable? Isn’t the inherent antibacterial and preservative nature of honey is what makes it uniquely stable ? I’m curious as to how it would “ripen.” I’d love someone to weigh in on this!
Honey is so beautiful. I love the golden color and the look of the comb. But......I have never been able to appreciate the flavor. I can taste even small amounts of honey in things and it is unpleasant to me. I wish I knew why. It seems everyone in my life loves honey
I recieved a honey basket for a present one day and it had 8 different kinds of honey from around the world. I hadn't thought honey tasted much different from region to region, but the difference was remarkable. Some honey's tasted more floral, some tasted too sweet, some tasted citrusy (like Emma described), and some had a fantastic nutty flavor to them. Those were the ones I loved the best. My sister isn't fond of honey either, yet she enjoyed the nutty flavored kind. I can't remember the name of the honey, but I hope one day you get to try it. I don't like the honey thats in the bear containers, it's always too sweet for me, but some other ones have always been pleasant. If I find out the name I'll be sure to let you know.
I never liked it. Then I tried sourwood honey from a local keeper... Roan Mountain honey. Oh man, whole other level. Its really good. I've not found another honey I like.
I'm a Imker by hobby (sorry I don't know the English word xD) I often try that before harvesting the honey it don't really let it taste different it just change the texture
"Product from Hungary". My great-grandfather came to this country from Hungary. He would walk the WI forests and he loved to eat honeycomb whenever he found it. He said it was one of the best things for the body. Considering he was never sick a day in his life, I think there was something to all the habits he had for staying healthy. Thank you. I clicked on this video just because I remember he used to eat raw honeycomb and I never saw anyone else do it. :)

*Thank you to all that answered my question. This conversation has gotten crazy haha but I appreciate the kind and educational answers that some of you gave me. I honestly don’t judge the Vegan life style so, as I said in the comments of this, I hope I didn’t upset anyone with my confusion. 💛💛💛💛 I can understand why Vegans don’t eat dairy and stuff, but I never understood why they won’t eat honey 🤔 No hate, it just doesn’t make sense to me. Anyone have any insight? 🐝🍯
Jamie Lamie being they don't eat anything from a animal and they think bees are tortured when really bees live there best life being taken care of if they weren't they'd be extinct vegans just don't understand that.
Satsuma I probably should’ve clarified that I was talking about the ones that don’t eat it. Like I said, I totally understand dairy being an issue because even if you didn’t mind the idea of products like that, it can be very difficult to find dairy places that don’t seem cruel in a way if that makes sense. The honey thing I don’t think will ever make sense to me.
There are some practices in commercial beekeeping that can be seen as cruel an unnecessary, such as: clipping queens wings, population culls before harvesting of honey. Veganism is also about the non-exploitation of all animals, so that may be a factor as well.
I admit that i don't understand the honey making and harvesting practice but for a while i refused to eat honey because i felt like we were stealing the poor bees food and hardwork. Are you supoosed to leave them some of the honey to eat? Bees are magical and their honey combs are amazing. I've been tempted to buy one and eat it but I feel guilty.

Lisa Dohm I can safely say that two teaspoons of honey is SO much nicer than two of sugar, especially in some citrus “hint” tea, My current favourite is - Earl grey with citrus tea, with two teaspoons (maybe three if i feel like it as i do use MASSIVE. Cups) of acacia honey. I need to try Manduka honey, or is it Manuka? Idk it’s £20 for a small jar
I used to work at Savannah Bee Company, and the reason the Acacia honeycomb is a product of Hungary is because Hungary produces a really great mono-floral Acacia honey (Italy too depending on the year)! It may taste lighter than a wildflower honey (poly-floral) comb because it’s a mono-floral and the flavor profile of acacia is more like just a clean and sweet taste (in my opinion). It’s also a high fructose honey so it will take an incredibly long time to crystallize! I personally love crystallized honey, but my bottles of Acaia honey are incredibly precious to me. Love this vid and love your channel Emmy!!!
Amazing, I haven't had fresh honey comb in years! My mama used to go every summer and buy a quart jar of fresh, local raw honey. The jar was alway half honey comb and after almost all the honey was used(mostly on fresh homemade biscuits with lots of butter or on fresh cornbread, again with butter!) Mama would divide the honey comb between us. It was always mawmaw, mama, myself and my little sister that would eat it. My daddy and bubba hated it, they always said the texture was gross.
I love this video. My dad was a beekeeper and always gave me a honeycomb when he would harvest his clover honey. He's been gone 8 years and this video brought back so many happy memories.

My ex husband was a carpenter. He was working on a very old house once, when they discovered a huge bees nest in the chimney. A bee keeper came to remove the approx 120,000 bees!! My husband came home that day with about 15lbs of honeycomb. I put it in sterilised jars and gave some away. But what we kept lasted for ages. The good thing about eating honey that is local to you is it really helps prevent outbreaks of hay fever, because your body becomes accustomed to the pollen in your area through digesting the honey. Definitely worth trying if you’re a hay fever sufferer.❤️

When my Dad was young and crazy he would get honeycomb from wild bee hives. He said it tasted really good. No one would believe that now as he's a boring public school teacher.😂🤣
I absolutely cannot wait to start keeping my own colony of bees... One of the main things I'm keeping in mind while shopping for my new home is to have an area to set up some boxes :D
I was looking up charcuterie board ideas, and I saw that someone put honeycomb on theirs, and I think that's such a cool and unique idea. It's definitely something you don't see every day. If I was entertaining guests that would be something to include for sure.
Yeah it depends like if you're in Thailand then it's actually a bit cheaper but like in places honeycomb doesn't thrive it is more expensive. Just like sea food
What I love about honey is how the taste can change based on the flowers in the area, the time of harvest and the type of boxes.

On a plain honey note, honey gathered near cranberry farms has a wonderful smell and taste, almost like heather honey from the UK.
We actually had bees near a pepper tree so the honey had a pepper taste to it it was interesting, still sweet but pepper too lol.
we have a lot of clover and honeysuckle in our area, and sometimes the honey has a slight taste of those banana foam sweets
There's a lot of brush and hawthorn in my area and one of my neighbours has bees, their honey has this sort of smokey-woody flavour to it, it's very nice.
I love you. Your voice. Calmness. Respect for all aspects of life and food. And just for being such a genuine person. Wow.

Really?!
The dark honey is where they lay their larvae from what I remember
@@stevent8362 unless you collect wild honey, you should never be able to buy a comb with larvae, since beekeepers use separators to prevent the queen from getting into the combs

Manuka honey is god. Essential oils are here to steal your money.

*This is a joke I just thought this was funny xd*

My Sister doesn't like honey either. My entire family, besides her, loves it. Different palettes I guess

I can understand why Vegans don’t eat dairy and stuff, but I never understood why they won’t eat honey 🤔 No hate, it just doesn’t make sense to me. Anyone have any insight? 🐝🍯
Jamie Lamie being they don't eat anything from a animal and they think bees are tortured when really bees live there best life being taken care of if they weren't they'd be extinct vegans just don't understand that.
Kay Apparently. I’ve heard of bee keepers mistreating their bees because...that would literally be counter productive haha.
I've been tempted to buy one and eat it but I feel guilty.
i LOVE savannah bee company honey, especially their comb. I don't tend to like as many floral notes in my honey, and I love that their honey is always consistent. There's not been a year that it's tasted any different

tea with honey is great but coffee with honey is extremely gross for some reason
Lisa Dohm try honey crystals they work good for tea and can be used as a substitute for sugar
