Southern-Style Stewed Chicken
Ingredients
*1 pack family chicken thighs
*Butter
*1 Lg onion
*Salt
*Pepper
*Knorr chicken flavoring seasoning
*Water
Cover your chicken with water just enough to cover the top. Allow your chicken to boil on medium high heat for about one hour. You're water will reduce while cooking so keeping an eye on your water level.
Flour Slurry ingredients:
*Flour
*water
I don't use measurements... But try to make your slurry loose not very thick. When adding your slurry continue mixing while pouring it into the pot...so it will not turn into dumping.

This is the coolest channel I've found in a minute big upps Ray Mack!!!!!
very true, took me a while to learn that
Can we appreciate how he talks about his dear Momma throughout the video? That's so sweet to me! 💖
🤢🤢🤮
Is best he don’t talk!
Yes! I love it!
Yes. I was thinking the same thing
Exactly he loves his mama thats a good thing
I have been craving stewed, chicken and rice for the last year and a half . My mother used to make it on a regular basis, but I could not remember how she did it (she died when I was 12 and I am now 53 years old).
This is my 2nd time making it after watching this video. The only difference from the way I make mine as opposed to this video is that I added a little creole seasoning to give it a kick, and I also added 2 bay leaves. For the last 30 minutes of cooking this dish., I added the rice to the pot while the chicken was cooking. Doing this added the flavoring of the gravy to the rice and everything was done in one pot. my husband absolutely DEMOLISHED IT the last time I made it!
When I told him that I was making it again tonight for dinner, he was smiling and said, “I can’t wait to get home from work”!
Thank you so much for this recipe!
I ABSOLUTELY adore how he glorifies his Mom and her cooking! A proud son who loves his Mom 🤗🤗

Listen! I was just in Walmart getting the ingredients for this, and I saw a man on the spice aisle and he stared helping me find a spice. I swear I was thinking the exact same thing. Love me a man that likes to cook!!
The best part of this video was not the chicken 🍗 It’s the way this man speaks of his MOTHER ❤️❤️❤️ I loved it.
Trying this recipe tonight. For everyone saying to use chicken broth instead of water no… old school cooks know he is making homemade chicken broth by simmering his chicken in the water and seasoning it as he goes..you don’t need that canned stuff this is the old school way!
Facts there nothing wrong chicken broth I used sometimes. But Ol skool is cooking with water but my grandmother never use pasta in chicken stew before
Ha ha old school is making stock by browning carrot, onion, celery. Adding chicken bones and water, and making stock. Then browning the chicken, onion and garlic, adding the home made stock, then making the stew. Ten times better. French and Italian methods
"Let it get all up in dat rice" 😂
Exactly because what were people using back then before they came up with quicker methods?! Also if you can't find/afford any, what will people do then?
it's fine but the chicken stock/broth will allow you to skip the cornstarch. the natural gelatin from the chicken stock/broth should create the same product, instead of water and cornstarch
The brother prepared..a helluva meal...all’s while , “holding his phone”.....legend.😏

I’m Jewish American. I was raised mostly by my Grandma. She was from Port Gibson, Mississippi. She stewed her chicken the same way. It must be a southern thing. 30 yrs later I can still taste her great stewed chicken over rice in my mind. Miss you Grandma. Wish I could’ve made videos of her cooking, but it was before all this internet was invented. I do remember she used to watch Julia Childs cooking on tv. Back in the day, there is was no personal videos. It’s amazing how food reminds you of family who cooked for you. Keep on Macin’ in up!! Peace and good eating brother. 😆🇺🇸🇺🇸

Mr. Mack, you did it again! All respect to your mother, and those before her. If you have some left over homemade dumplings in the back of the freezer (you know how it can be), add it to the finished stewed chicken cause you know those dumplings are flavorful as heck by now. My granny killed her chicken, cleaned and cut it and made stewed chicken once a week. She only added carrots (from the garden), salt and pepper. This was for me in the late 1950’s - 1970’s in southern WV. She always fixed a pone of cornbread with it. The best food in the world! Precious memories ❤️

GoneIn Vegas: I am on board with everything, but I like to lightly browned my meat.
@@maxineadderley5378 how do you lighty brown your meat ? By using water ?
@@keydyshastaton8089 : I do use about two tablespoons of olive oil, the desire is to make gravy, therefore it is not Brown enough to be eaten as is, just to get some colour and the bits in the pan for the gravy. If it's rice that I am pairing with it. I do not like thick gravy. After that I sauteed bell peppers, at least three colours, onion, garlic, and rosemary and a dash of teriyaki sauce then add meat and about a cup of water or broth or sodium-free bullion. Simmer on medium heat for about 40 minutes. I usually season meat overnight or for as long as possible. If I am serving fried cabbage, I add few stalks of bok choy and some matchsticks carrots. I. prepare enough of the vegetables to add to it as well, I add the sauteed vegetables after the cabbage is almost done with bits browned piece, I added the vegetables for ten minutes. All of the vegetables are roughly chopped except for the carrots 🙏💕🌹😊

My Mom, Grandmother and I seasoned and browned our chicken in skillet oil and removed it from pan and added flour to make roux and once browned we add onion celery garlic green pepper and cook till tender. Then we add chicken back to pot with enough water or stock to cover. Then it is left to simmer until chicken is done. Gravy from roux and chicken juices makes a beautiful flavorful deep brown gravy that we served over steamming hot rice with peas and potatoe salad. Delicious 😋
