- Hello friends!
I’m Elisabetta, an Italian watercolor artist with a passion and a curiosity for art supplies and pigments.
Today we are swatching and reviewing my new Vintage Watercolor paint by Wallace Seymour. Wallace Seymour (formerly known as Pip Seymour) makes high quality paint in North Yorkshire, England, using historic and rare pigments. They are really amazing!
This is their website:
www.wallaceseymour.co.uk
I really enjoyed swatching this high quality paint! And I made one of my usual "advanced swatching" sketches, to better understand how these colors behave in a realistic environment.
Will you let me know what you think about Wallace Seymour?

Wallace Seymour is known for their wide variety of earth colors, but their Indanthrone blue (PG60) is amazing💕 It is very much like M. Graham’s version, which does not dull down to a grayish tone like Daniel Smith does. I highly recommend you try it. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the info! PB60 is one of those pigments I have learned to really appreciate in time. I see I'm also missing some browns, and a dark blue would be perfect to complete my collection. Thanks!
Un bellissimo ceruleo!
Trovo anche io!! 😍
Lapis Ashes used to be the leftovers from extracting the blue pigment from Lapis Lazuli I think. I don’t know if that’s still the case today, but it might be.
They look like fabulous paints!
Hi Sonya! Yes it is fabulous paint. It's PB29 now so a modern version. Thank you so much for your info. Have a nice week!
Thank you, I have not tried any of these, but I have been curious about them. They look fabulous.
Thank to you!! It’s fabulous paint, actually…have a lovely weekend!
Thank you! You as well :)@@WatercolorElisabetta
Beautiful painting, Eliabetta. Thanks for the swatches. I really liked Potters Pink and Tilliers Turquoise. I bought some Wallace and Seymour Malachite, Cochineal and Naples Yellow (half pans) a few years ago, They rewet well if you add some water a few minutes before painting. They have a gritty texture and are very low chroma... good for mixing. Cochineal is likely fugitive, but I wanted to try it. Jackson's Art in the UK sells Wallace and Seymour paints and they worldwide, at reasonable shipping cost.
Hi!! I don’t know why, I don’t see Wallace and Seymour watercolour range on Jackson’s art….that is bizarre….thank you aniway! I have ordered cochineal from Schminke and I’m very curious as well!
@@WatercolorElisabetta You are right. I just checked and Jackson's now only has their paint mediums. 😞 Never mind...I have enough paint for two lifetimes 🤭 so I will be content watching you swatch.
@berolinastrassmann ahaha same problem!! 🥰
I like this line a lot. I focused on getting their unique local pigments for the most part, because they were so cool. Their Blue John is my favorite- mainly because I went down into the Blue John alabaster mine when I was in England one summer years ago. Their Iron Plum is stunning, as is the ultramarine turquoise.
Thank you!! However, now I have a problem…because now I want the colours you mentioned. I think they must be a delight from what you say. Do you use them often? I sometimes don’t use my favourite colours to spare them, which is so stupid of me. Have a lovely Sunday!
That yellow ochre is the most beautiful I’ve ever seen!
I'm glad you noticed! It's amazing. Thanks for commenting!
love your piece at the end, its so calming ❤❤
Thank you, actually it was really enjoyable! ❤️
That PY129 is very green leaning. I like it.
It’s beautiful! All this colours are wonderful.
I didn’t know that Rose Dore was made of the madder plant. Good to know!
My friend I will make a comparison of all my Rose Dore….they are all different! Thanks for commenting ❤️
@@WatercolorElisabetta Looking forward to that!
It’s in the pipeline! 😍
The landscape is wonderful, the reflection of the water is awesome. So much texture... Very special watercolours indeed. Organic, muted and natural looking. Maybe someday I will get some tubes to try out. Thanks for sharing your gems ;) Saludos desde Gran Canaria!
Ciao cara Estivaliz!! Have a super lovely week. ❤️
Thank you for reviewing this brand. I’ve heard that drying the tubes in pans makes it hard to use, though I haven’t tried this myself yet (or adding any honey or glicerin).
Hi Sergio! Do you think I can try adding a drop of honey? Thanks! I really would like to pour them in pans…
@@WatercolorElisabetta I contacted wallace seymour directly and they said adding acacia honey should be fine.
I still want to experiment between honey and glicerine since honey could make paint a bit glossier.
@@vilvile thank you Sergio! Grazie! 😃
Some beautiful colors here. I like the look of these tubes, with the color on top followed by brand and pigment information below. Interesting that some tubes don’t include pigment information but that doesn’t bother me. I like the Naples Yellow Red and Potters Pink. I agree with you about the Lavender, it does look like Ultramarine. Sorry about that Cobalt Violet. That color is prone to hardening in several different brands, same here apparently.
The yellow ochre is also nice.
Yellow Ochre is beautiful! I also loved all those smoky greyish greens (or greenish greys 🤔). Overall this was a really unique painting experience…
Thanks a lot for your comment. I really appreciate that they are always relevant! Take care, Elisabetta
Cobalt violet always mis-behaves. Swells in the tube, separates, doesn't mix well, dries out. The Manganese Blue was a surprise; I thought the pigment is no longer made due to toxic effluent but nothing replaces it (slightly greenish and beautiful granulation.)
Yes you’re right, it does… I love Rembrandt version that always has binder issues, but it’s so very lovely….
I think Manganese Blue come from an old stock: it’s so beautiful!
Thank you for commenting 😍
I would love to see a comparison of potters pinknits my favorite color to have
It would be very interesting! I own a few brands I could compare. Thank you for your request!
They are so beautiful. Lucky you to have genuine manganese. Does the second green earth remind you to Davys grey? Because it did to me. And your cobalt violet remind me that I better use up mine too, better used and loved than hard as a rock.
Yes it does remind me of Davy's Grey. I absolutely need to make a comparison video about Davy's Grey! BTW Wallace and Seymour will send me a replacement for cobalt violet, but I want to use up the ones I have fast as well! PV14 is a difficult pigment. Take care my friend!
Your enthusiasm is infectious!! We can hear the love in your voice, it's heartwarming! Because of you, I purchased a small palette of Rosa Gallery Urban & it is delightful! xo PS What is your favorite tea/teas?
I love traditional Black Tea, usually English Breakfast or Earl Grey….right now I have bought a delicious black tea with almonds, it’s very yummy. It’s a French tea, called Mariage Frères. ❤️ 🫖☕️
You won't believe I have had that Mariage Freres tea, it was a delicious gift from my friend from Senegal & Paris! It was very yummy! I too love Earl Grey & Irish Breakfast tea. At night we like a spicy Rooibos tea. Goodnight! xo @@WatercolorElisabetta
@michelemarchesani5139 dear Michele! Definitely great minds think alike, because if I want a caffeine free tea in the afternoon, I will drink Rooibos! I learned to drink it when I read Precious Ramotswe books by McCall Smith. Do you know them? Cheers my friend!
No, I haven't read McCall Smith, but I will look for them in the library, thank you! Books, tea, watercolor, our beloved fur friends, what could be better? xo@@WatercolorElisabetta
@michelemarchesani5139 I also like very much the Isabel Dalhousie series!
That Potter‘s Pink is very violet.
I thought it’s very pigmented. I need a side by side comparison….
Lapis Ashes is either very, very impure Lapis Lazuli or the actual impurities themselves. I‘m not sure which, though.
Sonya said it’s leftovers, so it might be impurities. This is a modern version I think because it’s Ultramarine Blue not Lapislazzuli…(in Italian is one word). Thanks!
Wow another set of tempting watercolors ha. I have though become familiar with them from UA-cam videos and coveting their earthy beauty but the price tag and difficulty getting them in the US has kept me at bay. So lovely. I put them on my wishlist for the holidays. If anyone has s suggestion where to buy in US or ship to the US would be great
Hi Daren! Thanks as usual for your comment. I'm sure that if you contact them on Instagram they will let you know! They are very kind and helpful. Have a lovely week!
Jeanne Oliver sells sets of Wallace Seymour in her online shop, I can't share link here, but if you google her name you can find the shop that way. @derwood206
@@michelemarchesani5139 thank you!
You are very welcome! @@derwood206
Nice video!
BTW: have you tested A. Gallo watercolors and have you, or if not yet, do you intend upon visiting their facility in Italy.
Hi! Yes I have published a couple of videos about A.Gallo, but I have never visited their facility. Among Italian handmade watercolour, I particularly like Della Magna! I have a playlist “handmade watercolour “, if you are curious. Thanks for your comment!
Beautiful! I especially love the potter's pink. Can you share the name of the Bristol store? I may visit it.
I agree! It’s a delight for the eyes ❤️
👋🏼

@@WatercolorElisabetta Thanks 🙂
Thank to you ❤️
Well.....there goes at least another $100 on colors i really dont need but want so bad lol
Unfortunately….yes!! 💸 they are expensive but very unique. Enjoy! Thanks for sharing…
Dear have you tried A Gallo colours ?
Sure I have! I have published a couple of videos…you find them in my playlist “handmade watercolour “. Have a look at Della Magna as well!
@@WatercolorElisabetta will do thanks ., how would you compare a gallo with this seymour range please ?
@traditionalateliers A.Gallo is beautiful paint, but for me Wallace Seymour is more unique. I also prefer tubes to pans…they are both very pigmented and lovely to use, but honestly I had a superior painting experience with Wallace Seymour.
