On the strength of this video I took my Sterling Stingray 4 to my local GC and tried out the BA-108. I bought it immediately! One point, however: I realize these are marketed as ‘beginner’ and ‘practice’ amps- but I use mine in my home recording studio (putting an SM-57 in front of it and taking the line out to a second input channel creating a composite bass track) and I have found the BA-108 to be a completely PROFESSIONAL quality solution. Great sound, great build quality, nice price… worthy of the Ampeg name. Just a superb amplifier.
I got the SVT-CL and the 8x10 cab in my rehearsal room. I have no practice amp at home. Now I'm getting the BA-108 instantly and will upload videos as soon as it arrives. Simply the best for that Price.
I Use the 108 with a USA standard precision with custom shop pickups. It's sounds fab, plus I di it through our pa with my band and it sounds superb. It isn't loud enough as a standalone amp,but as I said chuck it through your pa and the sound is excellent. The direct out is a very close sound to the speaker output and it works a treat.plus it's easier than humping a 4x10 Cab and valve head about!
just ordered the Ampeg BA-110 Bass Combo Amp.... freakin stoked! as a side note, you'll notice how much clearer the BA-110 is on the lower notes then the BA-108. i say its worth the eighty bucks. but then again i'm a serious musician always looking for the best. i'm 110% sure this amp will not disappoint me.
I have the BA-108. The guy from Sam Ash was too lazy to show me around so he told me if my budget was $100 I should get this Hartke amp, good thing I saw the Ampeg BA-108 and when I asked him about he said "Oh actually that costs exactly the same." This amp rocks!
Had one for my all acoustic cover band. The vocals and acoustic guitars went through the junky bar PA(two old 1x15 Peaveys) and I just used my ABG into the BA110, and it was plenty. Kinda of wish I still had it because I don't prefer the V2 series.
I guess it depends on how loud everyone else is playing, but I think you might get drowned out and depending on how loud you play, there may be some strain. I would recommend going with something like a BA-115 or something with a higher wattage.
hello im looking to buy this amp but i was wondering does it have an FX Loop?on some websites it said it does but on their website it mentions nothing about an FX Loop????
The BA-110 definitely has a slightly better bass response. Notes on the E and A strings played through the BA-108 sound a little bit farty to me but as both amps are meant for practice only can the extra cost of the BA-110(almost double) be justified? Hmmm..........
@ampegtv Great to hear man! I just got one a couple days ago but have no amp.. I'm a guitar player, so I have guitar amplifiers but now that I can't put the U Bass down I'm looking forward to get something small and the BA-108 sounds just right for it I think. I don't know much about bass, I got here thanks to John Butler Trio's upright bass player.. Saw a live clip and he had an Ampeg full stack behind him and I figured I'd do some research since the U Bass and upright sound similar imo... (=
Dino, I want to buy an at home practice amp but larger than the BA110. Can you give me your honest opinion of the BA112 versus the new Micro-CL Stack. Again this would be strictly for practice at home and not playing with a band etc. Thanks.
Also, some sites picture it with a tilt back shape but ZZounds and Sweetwater say that neither amp come like that? Any insight would be greatly appreciated...
I was looking to buy the 108 amp. I can find it for a couple of hundred bucks. I was going to use it with a Mark Hoppus signature Fender P-bass. Would it play Blink-182, Angels and Airwaves and The cure alright? Im not phased that the MH P-bass will do The Cure weird. I know that MH uses an SVT-8 ( or SVT something). Thats how I was brought to Ampeg. So would it do alright playing that?
Just bought the BA110 and waiting for it to come. The BA115 I received was faulty. Anyway, can I use the amp balanced line out as a preamp-DI for my bass straight into an MBOX for protools recording? If so, is that just as good or similar to the MXR preamp-DI pedal I was going to buy?
hi, may i use the 110 like a personal stage monitor for double bass and bass? to play with orquestras, not rock, but jazzy gigs, and dance orquestas, thanks.
would these amps be good for a basement studio without being mic'd or would i need to mic it? also can the direct line go straight into the a p.a system? thanks!
nice little combos ... but I would like to see a full stack ( with an 8x10 speaker box ) played by dino this would be great nixe video .. keep going :-)
So....if I want a sort of "shifted" mid-contour, very tight bottom and bright highs for a crisp and clear tone for playing with a pick, and have it really SOUND like I'm playing with a pick (the rumble-rattle-almost white zombie type of tone), could I get it with one of these if I just set the eq differently then this guy? I like a very bright bass tone, jazz bridge pickup, brand new pro-steels, and always playing with a pick, picking fairly close to the bridge. Fair amount of deep lows, not much lw-mids, tons of high-mids and highs. It kinda wraps around my mid-heavy guitars that way. I don't want anything huge if I can avoid it, a small combo would be nice IF it can make the sound of "my" bass. This would not be used for anything but home-recording, and yes I know, I'm supposed to be using some direct box to record bass, and maybe by the year 2020 I will be all the way into the 21st century, but until then, I like to stick a mic in front of an amp, even for bass. I have a Peavey 115 with a BW, but I'm using an old modified hammond tube amp with it, and it sounds a bit dense, gets in the way of the guitars and doesn't sound separate and distinct like it should. Also, for the bright, played with a pick "piano tone" I would probably do better with the 8" speaker, right?
OK...I want a practice amp.I already own a Hartke 3500 half stack but I want something more portable. I have been looking at the BA108 and BA110. I want something that is good enough that I take to a friends house and jam a little bit as well as just for solo practice. I have seen lots of positive reviews on the 108 but some negative reviews on the 110. Anyone know why the next step up would not get as good reviews?
Great stuff as always. I love Ampeg and love Lakland; however, I do find it strange that you always demo these with an active bass. Most of us think of the classic Ampeg tone as a passive P or J going direct. Surely, many people use active basses with Ampeg, but in doing sound demos, it seems to make more sense on a passive classic bass. There's too much than can be manipulated on a Lakland 44-02 to alter the tone we're hearing. If you still want to use a Lakland, use a Joe Osborn or Glaub.
why ampeg does not make 12" cabinet or 4x12 or 2x12 .12"has awesome tone.i could only imagine how would a svt sound whit 4x12 cabinet made by ampeg.it will be something special
I just bought the Ashdown because it was on sale for $49 at MusiciansFriend. We'll see whether or not it is worth using, but for the price it seemed like a good deal.
***** I've seen quite a few people mention using these amps through the PA system with excellent results.... Just saying what I've heard, I have no first hand knowledge otherwise.
o definately, but if your gonna do that, best purchase a sansamp DI box (amazing tones) and some decent in ear buds, wouldnt be that much more in terms of price and you'll be able to hear yourself on stage
***** Sansamp DI and a 10 band eq and a compression pedal. Then you're good for direct PA use AND recording tracks that don't require much (if any) post eq or processing.
The BA-108 and BA-110 do not tilt back. There are some photos out there that show the tilt back design, but that was never something on the production units. As far as the reviews go...take them with a grain of salt. The BA-108 and BA-110 are virtually identical aside from the size of the cab and the driver. If possible, we also suggest a demo at a local dealer.
I must be spoiled or something. They just sound "weak"... but then again, weak to what. Nothing beats that thunderous sound/tone rumbling out of 8 10s powered by the svt4 or a classic. But that's not what these combos are for. Price would probably determine it, but KrakkersBB brings up a good point... Micro VR and 2x10 or a BA-110....

I want one BA108 !! Perfect to work at home !
I love Ampeg. I got the BA-110 for a practice rig, great little amp! Quite heavenly having traded off a Rumble. Ampeg has it all!
I have that 110 and love it. Perfect for jamming some tunes without taking up a lot of space.
just ordered the Ampeg BA-110 Bass Combo Amp.... freakin stoked! as a side note, you'll notice how much clearer the BA-110 is on the lower notes then the BA-108. i say its worth the eighty bucks. but then again i'm a serious musician always looking for the best. i'm 110% sure this amp will not disappoint me.

Im waiting on my ba108 right now!! Hurry up ups!!
I just got the bA-108 ampeg amd im lovin it!

nice new amps, now I have a Dilemma, Micro VR and 2x10 or one of these for my home practice amp, thanks Dino ;o)
ACTUALLY DEMONSTRATING AND PLAYING THE AMPS
YEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS
A $100 practice bass amp with seperate active/passive inputs, a dedicated line out, and effects loop? Nice.
The BA-110 definitely has a slightly better bass response.
Notes on the E and A strings played through the BA-108 sound a little bit farty to me but as both amps are meant for practice only can the extra cost of the BA-110(almost double) be justified?

this one rocks. Just chose the 108 over the Peavey. That little joker is LOUD !!

The info. I will follow up after we like sound of bass. Ampeg is very very good sound.
Wow buena calidad de sonido!! me gusta!!

@ampegtv Great info! Thank you for the reply!
would a 35 watt bass amp be good for small performances ?
I was looking to buy the 108 amp. I can find it for a couple of hundred bucks. I was going to use it with a Mark Hoppus signature Fender P-bass. I don't know what either sounds like in a room, but the SM57 seems to prefer the BA-108. Can you do a video on the BA-115?
would these amps be good for a basement studio without being mic'd or would i need to mic it? also can the direct line go straight into the a p.a system? thanks!
nice little combos ...
but I would like to see a full stack ( with an 8x10 speaker box ) played by dino
this would be great
nixe video .. keep going :-)
Hello, I have a question. Would the Ampeg BA-108 be good for playing at rather small venues?
Hello, can we hear the CD Input signal into the Line Out ?
you reckon the 25W one is loud/good enough to play with a band and a small gig? Cool review btw :D

would you reccomend the B410HE or Portaflex 210he?
How do I connect an iPod to the CD input jack so I can play along with tunes on my iPod? Do I need some type of adapter??
can You run an extension cabinet off these amps.....like 2 12's.....or is enuf power...?
You would need another power amp. The amp in those are only meant to power that speaker cabinet.
thinking about picking out the 110. wanna know how good it sounds for rock, though.
OK...I want a practice amp.I already own a Hartke 3500 half stack but I want something more portable. I have been looking at the BA108 and BA110. I want something that is good enough that I take to a friends house and jam a little bit as well as just for solo practice.

Would the 108 work well on a U Bass?
at 4 ohms 25 watts or at 8 ohms 11-15 watts.
Question: is it true that the 108 can't handle the fender precision bass? I doubt it....
Hi, What do you think to use the ba-110 with a DOUBLE BASS for stage monitor?
awesome!
What bass and mic are you using?
great!
why ampeg does not make 12" cabinet or 4x12 or 2x12 .12"has awesome tone.i could only imagine how would a svt sound whit 4x12 cabinet made by ampeg.it will be something special
This!! a friend at my church has the Rumble - sounds pretty bad tbh!
E jadan je Ampeg sa tobom... :)
Is it me or does the 108 sound better?
I was thinking the same thing. Then again, it might be the recording.
Benjamin Zuckerman
Could be. I bought the 108 and it's a great sounding little amp.
I just bought the Ashdown because it was on sale for $49 at MusiciansFriend. We'll see whether or not it is worth using, but for the price it seemed like a good deal.
Benjamin Zuckerman
That's a really good deal, hope you like it. And Go Pack!
is this amp loud enough to practice with a band?
If your guitarist plays an acoustic and your drummer plays a pair of bongos, then yes, it is....
no where close, u need atleast 100-120 watt system or you won't be heard....unless your playing quiet jazz

I've seen quite a few people mention using these amps through the PA system with excellent results.... Just saying what I've heard, I have no first hand knowledge otherwise.

BA-110 costs almost twice what BA-108. For small practice amp doesn't seem worth it. Am I missing something?
how about practise in a studio with a band?
AMPEG PAPA NOSOTROS SABEMOS ;)
were a punk trio and we usually play at schools and small local bars
The BA-108 and BA-110 do not tilt back. There are some photos out there that show the tilt back design, but that was never something on the production units. If I want to buy Bass Amplifier I want to hear the sound of Bass.
1:54
2:56
if i use the ba 108 with a guitar, it will sound fine?
everyone plays better than I do! I quit! :'(
that's the spirit...
dont quit! Its do able.
Could have played just a little louder, next to the drum track the bass sounded extremely weak.
yeah just a practice amp is all
I must be spoiled or something. They just sound "weak"... but then again, weak to what. Nothing beats that thunderous sound/tone rumbling out of 8 10s powered by the svt4 or a classic. lolwut?
