  • We are building our off-grid homestead in Tennessee with no electricity, water, or any other utility. These are the early days here. They're spent doing tasks that simply support the necessities of life and tackle projects to turn this raw land into our dream.

    Before you set up for your livestock, do you know what animals are in the area that may be a problem?

    Fun video, thanks!
    Look into renting a goat herd to take out the brush if there are some available in your area. The goat herders set up a portable electric fence to keep the goats where you want them.

    Noticed your bluetti set up - be careful when disconnecting your solar panels - if they are drawing current into the battery you can short them (the panels - not the battery) out - make sure you have them turned off or covered with dark blankets before disconnecting & zero current going into the unit

    The stream below you could be accessed by digging a shallow pond, lining it with rocks and installing a gas powered trash pump to lift water to your garden and pasture. Harbor Freight and Tractor Supply both have them at a reasonable price.

    Watched the video where Matt built the shed deck, buuuuuuut there's a shed behind it, and Matt is using it for a work surface. You guys have the funnest changes of plans. 🤣Your updated TV cabinet is nice, and it for sure will stop collecting nick-nacks now. Sawmill baby!

    • @RunawayMattCass
      @RunawayMattCass  7 місяців тому +1

      Hahah :) The shed behind it is the new solar shed and that will be shown in all of its glory next week.... the platform Matt built will still be a shed but just a storage shed now, Lowes finally sent us the second box to the original shed lol. We just go with the flow around here because things are always changing! Matt makes a joke that he wants everything on wheels so we never have to make any permanent discussions lol

    Hey Matt - what is your opinion of using a Silky Katanaboy saw instead of a chainsaw? I'd think more elbow grease, but less maintenance and PPE. Probably cuts just as fast. Just a thought.

    I bought a food dehydrator. I make all our dog treats.. Their favorites are sweet potatoes and Pumpkins. I have to put high up because my golden retriever gets impatient and opens it and scarfs the treats down before they finish drying. I even dry the pumpkin seeds. I'm thinking my yard will have pumpkins sprouting lol.

    My camper came new with a 24" solid TV/ monitor which was at the end of the jack knife sofa bed. I pulled it out and put a 36" pull out pivot mount similar to yours and it made it so much easier to see. I put one of the good Roku boxes on the back so we can stream from our 5G hotspot on our phone or the hotspot line in my pickup. So far we have not had a need for a Starlink.

    I got a secret to that long dragon. Get your piece of plywood, cut you a not in it to where you can hook your strap to it, then fix you 2 holes that you can stick your chain. Through and wrap around the log and then leave your law on your plywood. Works slants down with the log on it, and then the strap will be above the ground. On those skids, and you can drag it with that strap, never hurt the strap. You keep the strap abovethat law. It will be something less even if you had a couple of 4 before pieces, about 2 foot long cut of slant on the front then tie your plywood Tom and then make it to where that it s***** down on the back too. When you put log on it and change it to the law plywood, you can. And pull it. Without turn up your strap just bank about it

    If yall ever decide you want to ride some trails and see more of Tennessee there's about 8000 acres of raw land in Hickman that we go riding all the time on. Free to go as well just no fires and of course keep it clean so we can enjoy it for years to come! As far as animals I would consider getting a donkey as one of your first. they will keep any predator's away!

    I know you said you were putting your batteries for solar system in the metal building. Will you be insulating the building to keep the batteries warm in the winter and cool in the summer? The batteries should be kept at certain temperatures so they don’t freeze in winter and get too hot in summer.

    Thanks for providing all the good information about the Bluetti. I want to eventually get one of those but can't make up my mind on what size I would need.
    I enjoyed the show.... Now it is time for me to transfer that energy into my motivation. Lol. I wish it was that easy. Best of luck to you on your continuing process.
    EDIT* If you have coyotes a couple pet donkeys would be good. They are smart and fun as pets and hate coyotes. But they may be expensive - never owned one.
