The classic rover pack is great! I use it for hikes, diaper bag for my toddler and more! And it looks wayyy better when it is actually packed. The top flap pocket works very well. In this video you can’t really tell how well that pocket sits because it’s empty and not cinched much.

I have the mini in sage. It is a cute little size for all the necessary items (extra mask, hand sanitizer, hand wipes, small umbrella, medicine, etc). I can fit an extra packable jacket just case it rains. If you are looking for a minimalist carry the mini or the classic are the way to go for sure.

Don't like the clips on the premium as you experienced the issue I anticipated having if I were to buy that bag (trying to open the top of the bag). The tech, for my personal use, is perfect. I don't like tech bags that tell me where to put my stuff--it stresses me out. What I like about topo is they have endless organizational options with their accessory bags that allow me to sort my stuff how my mind works. I wish they could take the straps from the premium and put them on the tech. If they were to do that it would be just about perfect.
All that said--thank you for the time and dedication for the review, I love that you guys do this.

This was very informative, thank you. To be a complete review it would've been helpful to very briefly show how these backpacks look when worn.

Thank you for the review. Does anyone own the Rover Tech? It is worth the upgrade over the Rover Classic?

The front pocket on the Tech version has its own volume, which is a pretty major improvement.

Awesome review! Super detailed and thorough! I had only just recently heard of these backpacks and was wondering how they were.

Premium is really nice. It looks more durable. However, those clips make it hard to unstrap.

it looks really thin and I'm just wondering if it'll fit all my uni textbooks and other stuff xD

Hi, thanks for the great detailed review, I have had the Classic version for a few years now but now I am thinking of buying a new one with more neutral colors. It is a perfect bag I only regret the constant clogging of the bottom of the rucksack when you put it on the ground. I've decided to go for the Premium. It's the same ideal size for me - 20l - but I've heard somewhere that it's quite heavy on its own. Does it really weigh 1kg? I also own Prima System which is around 2kg and you can really feel that. The second thing that stands out in your review is the actual strapping of the rucksack. In all the video reviews, all the authors have problems with unzipping the rucksack. Do you think this could be changed? Another drawback is the lack of back padding. In the summer, even with the Classic, my back is completely wet and unfortunately, it seems that the more expensive Premium will obviously have the same problem. My question is, do you know if Topodesign @topo_designs is going to introduce a newer rucksack in the upcoming season where they have fixed the above problems? Thank you very much.

    Is the laptop space suitable for 359 x 254 x 21.7 mm laptop (15.6")?

I don't like that they removed the inside zippered pocket on the laptop sleeve.

The mini looks kind a cool but 10L is almost unusable. If you’ve ever seen the regular rover pack in real life it’s TINY! Making a mini version seems silly. They should target it towards kids and maybe charge less than $70 for it.

    Hello!
Do you recommend Rover Pack Premium? I'm worried that the material is so thick that it won't give me enough space for my college books.

Hey Starlyn! We haven't tested the Rover Pack Premium, so it's hard to say if it will meet your needs. You may want to look at Topo's return policy so you can check it out in person. Thanks for the comment!

The Tech is better than the Premium IMO. The Premium's bottom has some known durability issues (e.g. it begins to look crumbly) and the clips are way less intuitive. I also think yellow interior > black interior for visibility.
As for space... Depends on how many books you've got. I'd measure your book volume or try it out in person.
Some folks don't like the opening to the main compartment as all access feels like a narrow tube. Normal backpacks have an advantage to accessing items if a rolltop's water resistance isn't required.

Thank you for mentioning specifically that it would not fit a 32 oz nalgene. I literally clicked your video hoping to get a better idea of how big the bottle compartment was.
