This was sick! Thanks for showcasing this one! I had a few of these back in the day, always fun and always great tone to be had! Boosted Classic Gain channel is where it's at! Awesome riffage like always man!
FINALLY!! Someone did a legit demo of this amp. Just recently picked up the 100 watt version cheap and love it. Thank you Sir! Yes I’m aware of the possible bias runaway that plagues the early ones but there are several top notch amp builders down here in Alabama that can do the Dr. Tube Mod that fixes the issue if it arises. Mine is from 02’ so we will see.
Your playing sounds great as usual Blake! I agree with other comments about the bad rap these get. Love my JCM 2000 DSL 50 and I choose that over my JVM 410 HJS quite often. Something about the extra thump and the Crunch channel just does it for me!
@@blakemansfield2356 I will have to try them side by side. Need an amp switcher! The JVM I have is the Satriani version, so it's voiced differently than the regular JVM 410. As for the JCM 2000, I think the deep switch is what does it for me. Gives it that thump.
honestly I cant believe these were so hated and cheap a few years ago. Perfect backline amp too, they are everywhere. its hard to tell but im guessing both deep and tone shift are in the out positiong right (not engaged)
@@blakemansfield2356 I think for a nice big rhythm tone the deep switch is actually really great sounding, you just have to back the bassknob back to around 9o'clock so it doesn't get too muddy. Actually the mid switch can sound pretty okay if you back up the treble and presence, crank the mids and have bass at around noonish. Everyones hating on that switch but you can comprehend the lack of mids with the EQ, it takes away a bit of the 0,5-1k nasal mids.
@@luca4352 That ALM makes total sense to me. And 9 o’clock on bass when the deep switch is on is exactly what I do. Haven’t messed with the tone switch much at all though
The truth is many of these are cursed with badly chosen circuit board materials. The epoxy resin became slightly conductive over time and when they got hot even more conductive still and it could cause the tube bias level go runaway and could blow tubes and or transformer. There's a reason they were cheap.
Great sounding amps, just the reliability thing, I currently own a dsl100h, had 2 other's b4 this 1, I've also owned the dsl40 combo, dug that 1 as well!
Ha well it just depends on the mood and purpose. Tone is important to me, but versatility matters a lot to me too. And probably most important is the inspiration factor- does it make me wanna keep playing. My favorite tones are typically marshally in some form- so 800/2203 type of sounds but with more gain available. So many amps do that well, I can’t say one is my favorite. Always searching though. I know there will probably never be a “the one” amp for me. I just like playing and checking out new sounds
@@blakemansfield2356 Yeah, I think we have the same tastes. That's why I like your videos so much.. you are always playing my kind of riffs through all the cool amps I want to try someday. From my FM3, I've realized my favorite amps are JCM 800s and Plexis. If I wouldn't have just gotten a Ceriatone 2204 I would have bought that Granger you were just selling for a great price. I don't know.. that Granger might have been a better amp.
Love this, I think the DSL is probably the best bang for the buck Marshall out there. Green channel can get basically dead on the my 2203 and red channel does the modded plexi stuff really well. Red 2 is a waste of time. I really like the newer ones with the resonance control, I actually sold my jcm2000 because of it.
@@alexguitar841 Quite well honestly. That crunch channel is quite nice very similar to an 800 vibe. Wish that depth button was a sweepable pot instead of fixed value. Kind of hard to balance the two channels
@@blakemansfield2356 thanks for the honest feedback. I traded a 900 for my DSL about 15 years ago and even after replacing the motherboard twice I still don't regret it.

Excellent tones demonstrated. Thoroughly enjoyed!

Correct- neither of those are engaged. Seems a little more honest and raw that way

You got a clean one... looks brand new. After all these amps, do you have a favorite?
I'm going to take it that you don't have a favorite yet 😎

If you had to choose between old 2000 DSL50, old 2000 DSL100 and new DSL100H what would you pick and in what order?
Can’t decide.
Hard to say without having them side by side. But I’d probably just grab a newer one if I were choosing

Like the DSL Series , a little bit more Dirt as the JVM !
What amp do you think does the Adam Jones tone best from all the ones you’ve had?
That’s tough. His tone has changed over time. But for me, I’d say an 800 type of amp with a boost

Boss SD-1W
