I can't lie. If it weren't for Biffa I don't think i'd be so into Cities Skylines. I found it rather difficult at first but watching Biffa's videos has given me the knowledge to get my first 70k population city with mass transit and decent traffic!
I'm in the same boat with you. I've learned so much
same here. there are sundays where i just sit there, play cities skylines and just enjoy building my own city. also, thanks to biffa, i'm abled to optimize my city with mods! it's truly insame how much i love this game and i'll play it from time to time even when CS2 will be released
The nine-tile limit was what convinced me to play with mods.
It was traffic manager for me. I just can't play vanilla any more, the lack of lane management drives me nuts, and it isn't realistic by any means. I'll play vanilla, kind of, with 81 tiles and traffic manager.
@@lordraven2264 when I figgered traffic manager out, it became my hands-down go-to mod, it adds a lot of realism to the game.
yah... same, 9 tile limit and the possibilities of traffic manager and obviously move it.
I don't need to say anything about move it
Multi network tool as well!
@@thesunnynationg Sometimes I wish I could double-Thumbs-Up comments.
Yes, please add the 81 tile mod so your last vanilla CS1 series can continue on longer.
Biffa you have to increase your population to atleast 80thousand to feel the real effect of Vanilla Traffic. I would also allow yourself to have the 80 tiles Mod
👍
100%. Even moderately larger cities become unplayable in vanilla which is why I don't play anymore. I just watch videos like this when I miss the game. 😅 $600 in DLC but they could never be arsed to fix the traffic problems. Smh
@@grimnar6725you may need to give some more consideration to how you design your cities infrastructure. Because large cities are definitely possible on vanilla. I have a 9 tile vanilla city on Xbox with 143000 citizens and 86-90% traffic flow
@@grimnar6725just like real life! 🤪
@@fiend91206 maybe. Irl it's super common to see a four lane highway backed up with 3 empty lanes because the everyone wants to use only one lane from coast to coast. 🙄 surely that's my infrastructure being the problem lol.
"I don't care ville" should be called "Apatheteaca"
😅
A-pa-thuh-tea-ca? 🤔
(Reminds me of Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata)
One vanilla train tip: if you want multiple tracks, you should have the split at the connection to the station because the AI knows how to switch the trains there without mods. It also applies to metro to avoid jams.
Last episode Biffa did class division with Idon'tcareville, and now he's tearing it down like it's some kind of "urban renewal" project.
It should continue to be spelt Idontcareville but be pronounced in the most British way; Donkell
So true!
Lovely video! Thanks for the entertainment
I would go with 81 tiles, but only for the 25 inner tiles because that is how it is on console so i think that still counts as vanilla
You should combine the purple & yellow metro lines into one large through-running service
81 tiles mod needs to happen I don’t think I can live without this series having a airport
@biffa You may need to change the bus capacity on the line with 2000 people waiting. I think that the bus is to small for that line and only has a capacity of 30.
You probably could have just made that busy intersection into a Y intersection. It's a vanilla trick that allows you to have dedicated left turns without having them yield to oncoming traffic.
Also you're traffic is so bad in that area because you built a super high density area without planning any type of transit. Transit needs to be planned first when you do an area that is that dense.
Also, idk why people in the comments wanted you to save idkcare ville lol it's a throwaway area. You said it yourself 😅
Honestly 81 tile mod would be amazing to continue the series, especially loved the idea of Airport on that small island off the coast
Biffa, I can't say how much your video makes my Saturday so much better!! ❤
so trueee!
Wow, thank you! 👍😁
Thankyou 👍 😁
Thankyou 👍 😁
Your videos made my mind to buy City Skylines 2 . Now it’s waiting time
Hello from Skyline Chronicles! Your Cities: Skylines channel is a source of inspiration for me as a fellow Cities Skylines creator. Your cities are not just aesthetically pleasing; they're also incredibly well-planned. Your ability to tackle complex urban challenges while maintaining a beautiful cityscape is truly commendable. I appreciate the effort you put into your content, and I'm excited to see how your cities evolve in future episodes. Keep up the great work!
The bigger Hugoslavia gets, the better I like it! I really like how you improved the road infrastructure around the newly built area! That is exactly what Phil did today too with Nicolet Bay, and I love both builds!! I just love it!!!!
27:15 ... yikes, that hairpin bend on a railway 😳😳
Those train stations, the outside lanes go in one direction
With as much effort as you put into it, you really should rename it to "I Sort Of Care Ville"
So satisfying seeing a bunch of people coming out of the station!
Biffa i think the side rails in that station are goung in a single direction, so it cant loop there
On the train traffic. The station you used is not a bypass station, it is a station with 4 platforms. You should be able to move the stop to another platform holding shift if I recall correctly.
Yes, he's talking about bypasses, but it clearly doesn't have any... I _think_ the only bypass stations are the ones in the Train Stations content pack.
That line with 2000+ people waiting on it were using a vehicle that only held 30 sims. Don't you have larger ones that you can utilize?
Until you separate the cargo lines and the sims line you're probably going to run into some weird stuff with your trains. It always happens to me unless I separate the lines. :(
This series made me fire up the game again for the first time in a long while. I forgot how hard vanilla is.
Sadly I haven't been able to load old saves with old mods 😢 but its been fun to remember what it was like learning this game.
My biggest pet peeve of mine is, bike lanes on busy heavy motor traffic roads.
You should NEVER want to see or have that ever!
27:08 IRL that turn would be incredibly sharp for trains
you have to understand, a train is like a string, if you bend a string and pull from one end, it will straighten out, basically trains want to be straight. the tighter you have a curve, the slower you have to go so that you dont either, pull too hard and pull them inwards, or go too fast and de-rail ourward. i know this game doesnt have derailments, but cs2 has traffic accidents already, maybe theyll implement derailments as well
Vanilla game has its moments. I played nearly a year without mods and I've hit 100k on 9 tiles. There was a lot of... quirkiness to the network but, all can be found in real cities as well. Eventually I used the Realistic Population mod and that made public transit super important. Imagine 1 tile with 50k people. Now that was fun... until it froze my junky machine.
The issue you’re having with stops at the by[ass station may be the asset. I use the other dual platform bypass asset as an end of line for two train lines without a problem.
Vanilla Pro tip: put a bypass-bypass line for cargo trains, and put a stop sign at the junctions for trains coming out of the station. It will force cargo trains and other through trains to go around
11:52 you might want to re introduce the bike lane again.
Good call 😁
Afternoon Biffa,
I recall Overcharged Egg had a similar issue with one of their trainlines so might be worth dropping a line (ahem 😆) to them.
Anyways a good expansion i think. Would Apatea be a good new name for that area?
Buffalo, I'm a PS4 player. If you're having problems with the bypass in train stations you need to begin the line/stop where you want it. In your case, the outer lines so inner city/cargo can bypass thru. Another vanilla trick is using warehouses near recycling centers. Build 4 near recycling center & set them for ore, oil, farm & forestry
Biffa not auto correct buffalo
Few things.
For Vanilla traffic is you generally need to solve the causes of traffic to reduce it rather than trying to “fix” the current traffic with fancy roads. Although good layouts like you did can help a lot, it’s still better to solve the causes. You need lots of public transport, that’s well targeted , lots off good pedestrian and bike connections, good hierarchy with good inter-district connectivity. Districts need good mix of offices, commercial and residential so people don’t need to travel too far. Industries should be well connected with a good flow from raw materials to produced materials to the final factories.
As for 81 tiles I’ve said 25 might be good as it keeps you in-line with the newer console version and keeps you in the intended build areas for the map. 81 feels over modded to me.
The train station is too close to the junction there’s no room to merge back before the split for the stations, that’s not helping with the back up. Not sure why you can’t use the outer platform, might be a directionally thing. (I don’t believe this station is technically a bypass station, it’s just a 4 platform station). Also you should probably split off your Cargo trains from your passenger trains.
i find it comical how you almost never make sure the train tracks are "lump" or "dip" free! love watchin the trains - it's like a rollercoaster lol
I feel like you should withhold 81 tiles mod for quite a while, so that people realize how much more space you actually have in the base game with CS2.
27:10 Never mind breaking immersion - that curve breaks BONES!
Are those outer platforms on one-way tracks or anything? Speaking of which, your busy rail junction might benefit from a one-way 'bypass' that takes trains leaving the station up and over without them needing to cross oncoming traffic on the same track. It could look pretty cool too and make things much more free-flowing so close to the station. Looking fantastic and I'd say the 81 Tiles mod is a no-brainer to give this city the space it deserves!
Wouldn't mind seeing you use 81 tiles mod :) the hub needs work for sure, but it's a great start! Why not add some taxi stands to the mix?
When you’re done with this series, you should add your mods back and go back through the city. It would be a cool way to show love to all the creators that positively contributed to CS and show how much their hard work improved the quality of life for this game. It’s also a cool way to show which mods from the first game got integrated into CS2
27:07 *Has enough space to make a nice turn for the trains
*Decides to make tight turn so the poor trains have a hard time finding what's Just Around the Riverbend..
32:56 That echo tho 😂😂😂😂
What a traffic congestion in that road to that Office zone before the upgrade 😮
Yay! Rollercoasters of Japan assets. Lovely stuff... but stick to 9 tiles or go modded properly, especially with CS2 imminent.
Oui oui oui !!! On veut les 81 tuiles !! This city deserves a better area to grow.
10:00 My first Idea was to add the two turn lanes as you did, then extend the bridge over the road, eliminating the crossing, and then have it split up into to more turn lanes for the other directions on the other side of the road.
So much fun...looks wonderful !!
You can add a one way tunnel to brige so they can bypass that road.
For the sake of the last CS1 city, yes, add the mod and expand the city for the one last time
35:25 why not move that train station bit further down so that trains could get into to a space between the station and the junction so that they can easily get past each other
Definitely the 81 tiles!!! 9 just isn't enough. Everything is looking good!! 😍
I think you should wrap up the CS:1 maps and concentrate on the CS:2 gameplay for a while. Then maybe come back to CS:1 in a bit to reflect on the differences between CS:1 and CS:2.
Biffa adding 81 tile mods dont make sense unless and untill you will continue this series even after CS2 comes out.
And also please improve the i dont care area and re do it beautifully please
Love your videos ❤
Please add more tiles! I've been loving hugoslavia and I feel it's got so much more life in it ❤
I definitely think more tiles are wanted and needed
If you build an interchange to let people in and out the highway in Bradley Heights maybe it reduces the transit passing through the bridges from BH to Mulberry Heights and intersection you modified today.
The more I play Vanilla the more I realise you NEED to plan ahead with building as few roads as possible. Roads are aways the biggest issue. The more trains, metros, monorails and cycle paths you have the better. And the few roads you have to have should always be designed with flow in mind. Not allowing U-turns or lane switching and having the fewest number of intersections possible will give okay results - though still the road traffic will insist on the dumbest lane usage possible (meaning I'm thinking the bigger roads are actually pointless - everyone crams into the left hand lane for as long as possible regardless then will dive across multiple lanes to make a turn, barring a few who will decide to cut down the middle and then dive into the left hand lane at the last minute and completely disrupt traffic flow).
So yeah, build big loops going into self contained areas with one way in and one way out. Treat the traffic like its as dumb as it truly is, do not allow decision making. In fact in some cases I'm starting to come around to the idea of having single lane highways be the main way to get from point to point - no lane switching, just go where it goes and suck it up. Which is a massive pain to design, to put it mildly.
Town name suggestion:
Lackadaicity
The removal of traffic lights in I-Dont-Care-Ville was perfectly timed to the music 😂
The trains wont let you use the outaide lanes as they are considered one way tracks. If you had a little turn around after it, the AI would let you use the outside
At 6:12 i think a good name coukd be laissez-faire or laissez-faireville. Kinda like i dint careville but not as on the nose lol
32:02 the “H” junction. cars go straight on the upper road instead of on the expressway, I noticed the same thing at the same intersection on the other side of the city. which causes a traffic jam on the road.
I would vote against the 81 tile mod. I am interested in seeing lots of CS2 come the end of October.
14:06 when you upgrade the other side of the intersection, that's no longer a dedicated turn lane.
Biffa, technically the remastered vanilla versions of CS for PS5 have access to 25 tiles so you couldddd use a mod to gain access to more tiles
No, those rocks didnt disappear, they went to live on a nice farm in New Tealand
9 tile limit and houses getting destroyed after upgrading roads were my biggest pet peeves in CS1
I end up putting that one lane highway ramp everywhere. The sims love it but the second it stops it creates a huge jam.
81 tiles mod is fine. It doesn't hinder the gameplay. It's an old limitation they had to do because of having the game on the old xbox and ps4. Pc should have all tiles by default if you ask me
You probably need to add park entrance or something like that next to new train station.. I guess, then more people would actually use it.
It may help to have trolly bus wires on your slip lanes because they are obstructing the right turns
You should definitely add the 81 tiles mod!
Hello, I have a question for you. I have watched a bunch of your videos on dealing with traffic, but I have yet seen where you do what I do to get rid of like 40% of the traffic! What I do is only have 1 cargo hub that lets in inports only and will have several that allow exports only. On the inport hub I put an 1 way heading out and on the exports I put in 1 ways headed in. This way when a car/truck drops off they despawn. I was just wondering if this was a mistake or a good way to deal with all the traffic? Thanks if you reply! Merlin
Go on get those tiles unlocked!
I Don't Care Ville => DunTeaCarre say "dunn-tee-care" Seems like a kind of organic evolution of a local nickname into something you would see on a postal designation.
I could watch traffic fixes every day
Hi Biffa 😊 I watch all of your videos and always enjoy them, but since you asked about 81 tiles and CS2 is so imminent...in my personal opinion I'm not as interested in Hugoslavia as I am your other cities. If we only saw wrap up vids for New Tealand, Biffalo Countea, and Blightea on the wold before you went all in on CS2 I'd be completely fine with that. Hugoslavia is a better city than what I'm capable of for sure, but the other three cities are much more engaging to me personally. I'll watch whatever you put out though if it's CS related so do whatever you want to do 😊
I think the riverbank of I-don't-care-ville would make a great industrial zone with a railroad-seaport interchange.
And of all the mods to break out of vanilla, 81 tiles is the most understandable. 9 tiles just isn't enough to do all you want.
you could build even more pedestrian paths between critical areas, it really helps
At the T-juction you where working on why don't you do an overpass w/trolly that turns towards the university and make a left turn only for the trolly line. (think of a one-sided tear-droplet junction) that way its will continue the flow of traffic... or roundabt the b****
The bypass train station will work if you have another station further down the line. It doesn’t like being used as an end of line station. I had the same trouble in my city.
I would rather add the 25 tiles mod over the 81 as on the Remastered edition, you could buy up to 25 so it would still be 'vanila'
Good morning, Biffa. Thank you for another video. Have a Great Day.
Thankyou, you too 😁
Truly music of an artist
If I wouldnt have seen all your vids, I even wouldn´t know who you are... Ohhhh Bifffa, Biffa, Biffa, you´ve missed your introduction. 🤣😘🤪
On PS5 I can go up to 25 tiles, I think that is mostly sufficient. I think you should open up all the 80 tiles, but, maybe restrict it to 25. 🤔
Get more Tiles mod on the city to
Make it Even bigger and Also on the big area you unlocked can build the AirPort terminal
Nice Video!
I think I view 81 tiles as another QoL mod, it just allows more gameplay whether the rest of the game os 'modded' or not. Moar Hugoslavia!
Hi Biffa, thanks for another awesome video. I have learned so much from watching your videos.
May I suggest renaming "I-Dont'-Care-ville" to "Now-I-Care-Ville"?
I also vote for 81 tiles (or at least 25 😛)
It’s name is similar to “Yugoslavia”
Feels like it's been ages since I watch one of your CS1 videos, I really enjoy watching what you build. And definitely a yes to 81 tiles. Wanna see more from this series please
As a vanilla player I see no issues with you using 81 tiles in its entirety.
However if you really want to stick to vanilla maybe consider limiting yourself to 25 tiles which is the current limit on vanilla console (remastered)
Just a thought
I would say go with the 81 tile mod, so you can expand and create a good world overall. Plus who know what else might come, as in other city ideas, such as airports, old city, big capital city. I say let it expand.
I feel it should have had more tiles then was offered in vanilla. So yeah please do use 81 tiles
The road around "I don't care bill" has the shape of America. What does this tell us 😅
Doesn't cs1 look soooo terrible now we've seen cs2! Love your vids biffa, keep up the good work! 😊
👍😁👍
Noo way cs1 is so mature and versatile as a game
@@andrewrecard5857yeah. I think other than most paradox games from what i have seen so far CS1 and CS2 both have their own unique reasons to play, while for example there is very little reason to start EU3 over EU4 or to adopt Vic3 when it released (vic 2 was just still by far the more mature and fun game)
@@andrewrecard5857 Not to mention, some people's systems don't meet CS2's requirements.
Don't do 81 tiles, do 25 so that those of us following on remastered can keep up. Console has 25 tiles now, I'd still consider that full vanilla. Please!
You need some on and off to the highway at Bradley Heights
I think it's evident from the expanded maps of CS2 that even Colossal recognise that CS1 maps are too small. In addition adding more unlockable tiles isn't exactly making your life easier so it's not the same as your average mod. It offers no QOL, if anything the opposite, so I say go for the 81 tiles mod. Afterall, you still have 5 weeks to kill.
Name for the new area... Ide - on - Kerr. The river being the River Kerr.
Keep building within the vanilla tiles and when they're full, use the 81 tiles mod.
Yes, let's go with 81 tiles!
