You had me at "Patty Melt". I'm a Texan, I think What-a-Burger is great! I usually just get a What-a-burger with cheese and jalapenos, but once in a while I'll have the patty melt. Quite tasty!

A basic patty melt is simple.Onions and a patty are cooked on a flattop grill, placed inside bread with cheese and toasted on both sides. The bread in this case looks like Texas Toast which is thick enough to hold up to the filling. You should have tried a malt or milkshake there.

Brits always have to try the chicken sandwich. Our burger joints don’t really concentrate on good chicken. It’s all about the hamburger to them. We have a zillion chicken chains if you want a good chicken sandwich. Fast food restaurants are pretty much specialized like that in the U.S.
When I was a kid, the local Whataburger held a drawing, giving away free burgers for a year. My stepdad won, so we ate hamburgers every single Friday night for MONTHS. I got SO sick of Whataburger in that year!
I always liked how you can custom order the burger. I always asked for extra lettuce. Sadly there are no Whataburger near me. Texas has them everywhere. My favorite burger joint.
If you guys ever get the chance to come back to the US you really should com to Florida on the gulf, like anna maria island. You would love it here and the food is amazing.
Whataburger is in Oklahoma and Kansas, too. We have two locations here in Lawton, OK. Always a good choice, don't remember ever having a complaint. The patty melts are really good. ;)
The crispy chicken sandwich is fantastic. I get it with extra tomato. I'm not sure about the sauce between the chicken sandwich and the patty melt. Interesting observation. I usually get a #1 (single patty meat) with fries and a drink. Occasionally I get a malt (simiar but nto the same as a shake) or a fried pie, lemon usually. I'm a Texan and Whataburger is like a religion down here LOL. Glad you liked it and thanks for swinging by.
We’ve a Whataburger in Northwest Arkansas- most likely because a lot of Texas high school graduates come North to attend the University of Arkansas for the out-of-state tuition waivers they receive.
Love apples. But haven't had them in quite a while. When I decide to get them I eat the whole apple , minus the stem , if there is one on it. Seeds & all. Nothing goes to waste.
Typically though, a patty melt is made with toasted rye bread and sautéed onions. It's basically just a cheese burger that uses toasted rye instead of the regular hamburger bun. I guess Whataburger uses Texas toast instead of rye bread.
The bread on the melt is called Texas toast
Texas toast has the thickness of 2 slices of bread. That patty melt bread is the size of a regular slice of bread. Love, love patty melts though.
Texas toast is also great for making French toast.

We have them in Arizona now too, not really a fan (still prefer In N Out) but the Apple Pies are like the old school McD's and worth a visit just for them.
I’m a lifelong TEXAN (decades) and have never even tried Whataburger’s chicken sandwich! 😆 There are better things happening.
My wife and I were frequent diners at WB when we were living near a restaurant almost 70 years ago. Great food. 😁😁😁👍👍
Welcome to Texas! We hope that you enjoy your stay.
In my opinion, Whataburger fries are best enjoyed by ordering a side of white gravy to dip them in. So good!
Patty melts are my fave but not in rye bread
We’ve a Whataburger in Northwest Arkansas- most likely because a lot of Texas high school graduates come North to attend the University of Arkansas for the out-of-state tuition waivers they receive.
Do a shot every time they say Chicken Burger 😅
You can’t eat the fries without the whataburger katchup
Love apples. But haven't had them in quite a while. When I decide to get them I eat the whole apple , minus the stem , if there is one on it. Seeds & all. Nothing goes to waste.
I like when Millie is waiting her turn and the just takes it from James lol
I sometimes enjoy a shake with my meal at Whataburger and whatever burger or sandwich I'm eating it will have jalapenos on it and mustard for my fries
I have never in 54 years put a whole salad on my burger. Only lettuce, tomato, onion or pickles.
Great to see your mother there; wonderful episode
Wow how did you not get spicy ketchup.??? It makes everything better
Typically though, a patty melt is made with toasted rye bread and sautéed onions. It's basically just a cheese burger that uses toasted rye instead of the regular hamburger bun. I guess Whataburger uses Texas toast instead of rye bread.
give the apples to archie
Whataburger is awesome
