whataburger went down when that Chicago company bought them. Also, it's really good when it's 3 am and you need food, that's where whataburger comes in clutch.
I agree. I've fad their food before, and after the Chicago takeover, and it is not the same. Something has changed, and not for the better. It's not terrible, but it isn't what it used to be.
No doubt. The quality of food and customer service from the franchises in my area of North central TX, have greatly diminished since the BDT Capital Partners acquisition in 2019. If I have the inclination for a good burger and fries, I usually visit one hometown's burger joints or Carl's Jr. if I'm in a rush.
This family has a real sense of innocence. And I know innocence better than most I'm very captivated by it and feel as this innocence should always be protected at all cost. May God bless this family and many experiences they get to share together and show the world God bless em
The chili cheese burger is a burger with frito pie added. A burger is a patty made from ground (minced) meat. It can be made with slices of bread or with a bun. A sandwich is made with a solid piece of meat ad can also come on slices of bread or a bun. Chicken strips are better with honey mustard than with honey butter.
Texans swear by Whataburger which originated in Texas way back in 1952. I had my very first Whataburger back during 2011 when I professionally drove Railroad crews via limo vans to their trains from the depots and hotels and one of these men asked me if I had ever enjoyed a Whataburger. I asked him; "A what?". He smiled and said; "You are tonight." and He buys me my first ever Whataburger meal. My favorite is the double cheeseburger with everything on it.
I’m afraid you’re mistaken about the date; it was founded in 1950. I was four going on five. I’ll never forget the junior sized burger that you could get with mayonnaise lettuce and tomato, called the “Sissy Burger”. It was just right for a little girl who hadn’t developed a spicy palette yet. That was back when there was just one Whataburger and the trademark A-frame design was still several years in the future.
my goodness .. did they spend $100 on all that food? He keeps pulling out new stuff from that bag.. every few mins!! & Brits do the same thing , call chicken sandwiches , chicken burgers🤪

In America the definition of a burger is any sandwich( it doesn't matter what kind of bread) made out of hamburger meat AKA ground beef hence when you take that hamburger meat and make it into a patty it becomes a burger. Short for hamburger meat sandwich. No other kind of meat can be called a burger. They are just sandwiches which also can be made from different types of bread. Hope that helps. You guys are so great!!!😊
That’s fine. You do you. But in the US asking for a chicken burger will result in confused looks, because while lots of places have chicken sandwiches and they’re usually on a bun in fast food places basically nobody sells what we would call a chicken burger.
Indeed. The Whataburger patty melt is the best meat and bread Whataburger has to offer. I know because we have a Whataburger right down the street here in my hometown in The Colony Texas.
When you were making jokes about "What A . . .", it reminded me of the Christmas when I went to a certain fast food restaurant and bought all the different plush dolls they offered from a television show. One character per week until you had all six or eight? characters collected. Running short on time to wrap them, I left each one in the bag it came in. This way my niece couldn't see what was inside, (as a good wrap should be), and she would be getting MANY presents at once instead of a box with many. So it's Christmas morning and the family is gathered around to give each other their presents. When it was my turn, I handed her one of the bags. She opened it, and happily cried out the name of the character, since she loved that show. She was happy with that, but I said there was another, and handed her a second bag. Again, she named it and was happy. After three or four times, I handed her another bag. "Napkins"!, she said. What, I had inadvertently given her a bag of napkins that I kept in my car to clean the windows on frosty mornings until the car warmed up. We all laughed so much, my brother, her dad, fell off his chair. I gave her the rest of them at that time, because you just couldn't top that reaction. I remember now, it was eight dolls. This was in 1984 when she was only three. So many memories.😂
I grew up on Whataburger's in their hometown and it was family owned.. They had a stand about a block away from us but my parents would drive us over there. Us little kids were in pajamas and dad would walk up to the stand and order our food and bring it to the car to eat. It was plain and simple then but so good and affordable. Just burgers, and fries. Oh, and you could choose shakes OR malts. No one ever offers malts anymore. Boy have they grown up. I think they sold out to some outsiders now. A lot of people don't know that you can get the buns in wheat also. And if you ask they will grill the buns for your order. Many of their sauces and breakfast sausage is sold in stores here.
Something What-A-Burger has over a lot of other fast food places is the actual size of the Burgers. The vast majority of fast food places have smaller beef patties as well as smaller buns. One inconsistency that What-A-Burger (and a lot of other fast food places) is that the cooks don't always season the beef patty when they are cooking it. There is a mixture of Salt & Pepper in a shaker they are suppose to put on each patty, but I have discovered that it is hit or miss if they do put it on. Once you find a good What-A-Burger that actually does season their patties you tend to go to that one even if it is a little further away than another. I worked at What-A-Burger back in the early '90s as an overnight cook, and me and my co-worker (only 2 of us overnight back then) were constantly getting praises for the service as well as the quality of the food. It happened so much that our store manager had me change to morning shift for a week to train the other cooks. It turned out that NONE of the day cooks were seasoning the patties as they were suppose to, and that was the big difference. Once they started seasoning the patties on every shift we shot up to one of the most praised stores in the Houston Area. It just goes to show you how much a little Salt & Pepper can improve the taste of food. Also, I was the very first person in the Houston Area to be taught how to make the Biscuits when they first introduced them.

It's so good to see New Zealanders experiencing American life. Sixty years ago, a What-A-Burger was quite different; that is, the beef paddy was twice the size it is now; routinely, they were 1/2 a pound of meat. However, the variety was far more limited. I well remember (here, in Texas) the introduction of the green chilies on a cheese burger. That was beginning of the development of their menus. Also, it's to be remembered that getting the $0.85 (that's 85 cents) for a burger was very difficult. At any rate, I greatly enjoy watching your videos as I was partly raised in Europe and few Americans can understand my experiences. Keep up the good work.
Whataburger got bought out by a Chicago firm a while back and it hasn't been the same. I am from Texas but just moved to Chi and sadly there are no Whataburger's here. Regardless could still use a sweet & spicy bacon burger, some spicy ketchup or a honey butter chicken biscuit(y'all need to try that, great late night snack.)
Y'all are such a precious family. As a Texan and advid Whataburger fan, I will admit, yes.... the whataburger itself is very old school..... which is kinda why we like it. "Patty Melt" is a sandwich. Essentially. a "Melt" is a "Grilled Cheese" sandwich with additions. Some examples are : tuna melt, BLT Melt, turkey & bacon melt, patty melt, etc.
At Whataburger i get a #2 on a small bun toasted buns both sides with 1 slice of cheese and grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and sometimes grilled jalapenos. sometimes i get onion rings instead of fries.

Ther term burger was coined in the US as short for Hamburger sandwich, hence the Burger. Hamburger is a nickname coined for ground beef. Ground beef got its nickname from immigrants who had brought the idea of ground beef over from Hamburg Germany. The Hamburger terminology is slowly being substituted for ground beef in the modern market, but still holds true in products like hamburger helper. As an American, when someone refers to something being minced, I would immediately imagine something along the lines of something finely chopped by a knife such as minced onion, or minced garlic. In the instance of what is referred to mince overseas, I would call ground since it is ground by a meat grinder. In short, they are all sandwiches. A burger is a patty made of hamburger sandwiched between 2 pieces of bread, or a bun, but sandwiched none the less. Great reaction video, thank you for sharing.
Yes. The “hamburger steak” was invented in Hamburg. After immigrating to America (NY state I believe) some German Americans put a ground beef patty between two slices of bread creating the hamburger sandwich, shortened to hamburger and then burger for brevity. Eventually the hamburger bun was invented and named for its intended use as the bread in a hamburger. The bun is named after the sandwich, not the other way around. Not that there’s anything wrong with people in other countries using the naming conventions of their own culture for sandwiches, but historically the bun came after the burger. And yes we do sometimes use “hamburger” or “hamburger meat” to refer to ground beef or the ground beef topping for pizza.
@@JustMe-dc6ks I would like to propose a theory...Imagine someone who speaks a broken version of English misunderstands what is being referred to as a "burger", an American tries to explain, but the recipient doesn't understand enough to get what is trying to be said, returns to their country of origin, opens a restaurant selling "burgers"... I like to imagine the same for biscuits...An American traveling abroad sitting at a restaurant overhears some British talking about their biscuits, looks at the table only to see some scones on a plate whilst the biscuits are hidden from view, comes back to America and tries to replicate said scones thus creating the American biscuit...lol
We don’t have a Whataburger here in our town. It all looked good to me. Thanks for the review & I know what sandwiches or burgers I’m going to get if I ever get to one. 👍😋🍔🍟💚😊
I think their breakfast is the best part of their menu listing. (11pm-11am) Most people (not me as much because I rarely want sweet in the morning) love the honey butter chicken biscuit served for breakfast.
A bun does not differentiate between a burger and a sandwich. Buns are just bread and any bread will work for either a burger or sandwich. The defining difference is a burger has a patty of ground meat or meat substitute in between the bread/bun and a sandwich will typically have slices or a fillet.
That is thick cut Texas Toast! Dang sure aint bread yall! Haha! The key is finding what you like. They have American, cheddar, Pepperjack and Swiss Cheese, grilled onion, jalapeno, mushrooms and peppers, buns and Texas toast, bacon, avacado and 15 sauces/condiments. Burgers and grilled/fried chicken. Their fries and onion rings are excellent, and all these items are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, except for Christmas and New Year!
Whataburger is our favorite burger joint. I love the chili cheese burgers. You can't find them just anywhere. My favorite. Glad you are enjoying our burger cuisine! I really enjoy your videos.
Whataburger was the pinnacle of fast food in Texas until they sold to an owner out of Chicago very recently. I've given them chance over chance since the transition, but it's now missing that extra Texas factor that made it so famous. Don't get me wrong, I get it, and I probably would have sold too, but us Texans could begin to tell the difference in the quality and flavor of the food after the change over.
Thank you! for having the courage to say that! Get some P.Terry's! Whataburger can be good, especially when they are the only thing open! I don't think they're chocolate shakes are very good but the burgers and chicken sandwiches can be good. Though the last time I got sick on a burger was Whataburger, and no I wasn't drinking.
For those who dont know Whataburger is a TEXAS Staple started August 8, 1950, Corpus Christi,, TX and just sold On June 14, 2019, the Dobson family sold its majority stake in the company to BDT Capital, a Chicago-based investment company.
This explains a lot. I liked it when I first moved to TX in 2015 but eventually it started making me sick when I ate there. And the service has gone downhill in several locations, so I have to have a MAJOR craving or be very hungry to go eat there now. I didn't know they sold out.
Several things. That sandwich bread is called, Texas Toast. Whataburger is known for BURGERS. You can't compare Popeyes to Whataburger because Popeyes doesn't sell a burger, they're known for CHICKEN. Chick-fil-A is known for CHICKEN and there's no way, IMHO, that their burger is anywhere near Whataburger. Lastly, a few years ago Whataburger (Texas family born) was sold to an investment group in Chicago and the quality across the board has gone down understandably. You missed the window. You didn't get to try their breakfast menu. The big negative with Whataburger is that they don't serve breakfast 24 hrs. a day.
Bacon cheese Whataburger (#5) is the best. You all got a lot of the crazy newer options, but the best thing about Whataburger is you can easily modify what you put or don’t put on the burger, and they actually make it correctly.

I’m finding my keys and going to Whataburger right now as it’s 6:20 am and I’m in the breakfast window. Good talk. 😂
Jalapaño cheese biscuit!!!
whataburger went down when that Chicago company bought them. Also, it's really good when it's 3 am and you need food, that's where whataburger comes in clutch.
I agree. I've fad their food before, and after the Chicago takeover, and it is not the same. Something has changed, and not for the better. It's not terrible, but it isn't what it used to be.
I agree. Used to love them. Very thin meat patties now. I call their regular burger an onion mustard burger. That’s all you can taste.
And you can get breakfast
I've only been back once since they got rid of the mushroom swiss.
No doubt. The quality of food and customer service from the franchises in my area of North central TX, have greatly diminished since the BDT Capital Partners acquisition in 2019. If I have the inclination for a good burger and fries, I usually visit one hometown's burger joints or Carl's Jr. if I'm in a rush.
Y’all are awesome.
Life long Texan here.
Saw the barbecue last night and loved it.
Makes me Love being a Texan even more.
High praise coming.... I worked for Whataburger and i still eat their food. I cant say that about other fast food places ive worked.
Thank you for a fond memory from when my kids were young!. Me and the wife and our two kids eating in the car on a road trip-a truly American thing 💌
As a Texas Native, Born and raised in Galveston, I love to see people from around the world trying Whataburger for the first time! It warms my heart.
Gotta love Whataburger!
Whataburger is life! ❤ born and raised in Texas, and have lived all over the U.S., Whataburger is the best burger hands down 🙌🙌
Awe! Whataburger started in my hometown in Texas. Still a favorite today and my cat loves patty melt sauce!
You guys are making such fantastic memories with your kids!
I’m a HUGE fan of Whataburger!! None better!!
In n out
The patty melt is my favorite late night meals. Lots of great memories of going there with friends after bars and country dance halls closed.
Obsessed with how chaotic this is 😂 Whataburger is just that good! Hello from Fort Worth!
my goodness ..
did they spend $100 on all that food? He keeps pulling out new
stuff from that bag.. every few mins!!
& Brits do the same thing , call chicken sandwiches , chicken burgers🤪
My hubby and I have not had Whataburger but they are building 2 in our area that will open in the fall. Thank you for the video to give us a heads up on what they offer!
My mouth is literally watering. Looks so good!!
I can appreciate everyone wanting to try something different because y'all are here from another country but in order to truly enjoy the food, you all will have to order your OWN food and eat it all, no sharing or passing to the next guy to truly get the full experience and enjoy it 100%
Whats up y'all I absolutely love my N ZED family I stumbled upon your videos 2 weeks ago and have watched every single one end to end now im going through kiwi kicker videos your family and videos have brought a smile back to me since losing my job 2 months ago so thank you all for what you do and have done keep up the awesome family bond and I look forward to your future endeavors
I enjoy watching you guys enjoying the good.
You guys are so great!!!😊
Other meats can be called a burger as long as they are ground meat and patty shaped. Chicken burgers and turkey burgers exist.
I know because we have a Whataburger right down the street here in my hometown in The Colony Texas.
whataburger is my favorite burger place
Love your creativity, it's inspiring!
I love your family's enthusiasm for food! 😂 One of life's greatest joys.
I love watching you having so much fun doing these videos.
This warms my soul like a meal from Whataburger.
As a native & current Texan, I'm soooo glad ya'll got to enjoy the Best Fast-Food Burgers in Texas!!
The original Dbl-Dbl What-A-Burger, the Swiss-Mushroom What-A-Burger, and the Patty-Melt are my favorites. ✌
No In and Out is in Texas now!!!!!!!

We've had one here in Waco for a few years, and still haven't ever been there. *\_('?')_/*
In-N-Out 👍🏼
Whataburger tastes like Burger King…
Sweet & Spicy Bacon Burger.
Add Creamy Pepper Sauce
Add Pickles
Add Leaf Lettuce
(Used to Add the grilled fajita veggies but they no longer have that)
Also if you can tell them to let the onions cook in the blood of the meat. They may not do it, but its highy worth it.
You forgot the onion rings, their my fav because they're battered rather than breaded. Also, you should trying their breakfast menu.
Gotta love when you get them crispy! Sometimes they come out too soggy. If their oil is piping hot, those onion rings can't be beat!
Very enjoyable and entertaining videos by a beautiful family. Love watching ya’ll. Look forward to more. At you here from Austin, Tx.
We always drive through the night from Louisville to Destin, FL, and we stop and get Whataburger as soon as we can!!! It’s my favorite. Wish we had it in KY.
Destin is awesome, but never been.
I’m near Fort Lauderdale.
@@Ira88881 me and my college girlfriends took a trip to Ft. Lauderdale during February a few years ago. We left snow and flew into paradise! It was so much fun. Only negative, you can’t pack a cooler of beers and have a beach day! No alcohol allowed!
@marieneu264 if you're in KY then have 3 in Clarksville TN.
Whataburger across the street from Emerald Grand! At the first light off Destin Bridge. Good food and a beautiful view from the bridge!
@@marieneu264 Used to be a major Spring Break destination (watch the movie “Where The Boys Are!” ) But things got too crazy.
South Beach, Miami is also now trying to get rid of the Spring Breakers. Violence, crime, out of control behavior, you name it.
But you can certainly bring booze onto Ft. Lauderdale Beach now…but not during Spring Break.
I've been waiting for this video! I am about to love this channel even more or get my heart shattered!
The suspense… are you still here??? 🫣
@@yournewzealandfamily I finished the video and I was heart broken! But I'm also a Texas native so maybe I'm biased 😅

Spicy ketchup at whataburger is a must for me.. I have a bottle of it in the fridge 365 days out of the year
Y'all are such a precious family. As a Texan and advid Whataburger fan, I will admit, yes.... the whataburger itself is very old school..... which is kinda why we like it. The avacado bacon burger is top notch. The gravy is best on the fries and they have great rootbeer and tea. This was a great vid. Thanks for sharing and God Bless.
We are getting one of these near us soon. Glad you did the review.
Just had whataburger for the first time on vacation in fort walton beach florida. I definitely was impressed the burgers tasted fresh so did the fries and I loved the spicy ketchup.
I love Whataburger! My absolute favorite burger place
"Patty Melt" is a sandwich. Essentially. a "Melt" is a "Grilled Cheese" sandwich with additions. Some examples are : tuna melt, BLT Melt, turkey & bacon melt, patty melt, etc.
With a classic Whataburger yiu can taste every single layer of it in every bite & its fresh & tasty. Haven't had any other place like that.
At Whataburger i get a #2 on a small bun toasted buns both sides with 1 slice of cheese and grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and sometimes grilled jalapenos. sometimes i get onion rings instead of fries.
The “eat up and we’ll tell ya” reference from Dumb and Dumber got me dying
You just earned a sub
Whataburger got its start in 1950 as a roadside burger stand in Corpus Christie, Texas and was founded by Harmon Dobson. It now has 820 locations in 10 states, with nearly 700 of those in Texas. The Dobson family had previously maintained a majority stake.
My favorite root beer is Virgil's homemade root beer. It has all the herbs that were first used to make root beer and it's so delicious.
Sassafras is banned in the US so Virgil is lying
Virgil’s is great stuff. The best microbrewed root beer you can buy.
When I lived in Texas, I frequented Whataburger regularly. So good!
Best thing about What A Burger is you can build your burger anyway you want it regardless of what the menu says it comes with.
I really love this sweet sweet family. I really hope all NZ’s are this great. I hope to visit one day!
Agree on all counts. Would love to visit NZ!
So many choices, that's what makes Whataburger the best.
In Texas at WHATABURGER you can special order any burger on Texas Toast
A bun does not differentiate between a burger and a sandwich. Buns are just bread and any bread will work for either a burger or sandwich. The defining difference is a burger has a patty of ground meat or meat substitute in between the bread/bun and a sandwich will typically have slices or a fillet.
Whataburger is on point! GREAT REACTION GUYS!!! ❤🙌🏼
I don't like whataburger.
@lisakitzberger3931 is good we have a ton of options!
Whataburger kills In n Out all day every day.
@@georgemetz7277I love P Terry's but we don't have them up here in Dallas/Ft Worth
and they swore they wouldn’t change a thing. Liars!!
The Democrats from Chicago took over Chicago
For those who dont know Whataburger is a TEXAS Staple started August 8, 1950, Corpus Christi,, TX and just sold On June 14, 2019, the Dobson family sold its majority stake in the company to BDT Capital, a Chicago-based investment company.
This explains a lot. I liked it when I first moved to TX in 2015 but eventually it started making me sick when I ate there. And the service has gone downhill in several locations, so I have to have a MAJOR craving or be very hungry to go eat there now. I didn't know they sold out.
lol I just picked up my order from Whataburger 😂
As a Texan who currently lives in Minnesota for work and has traveled the country, NOTHING beats whataburger for fast food.
I'm from Texas and I'm whataburger gang for life.
You guys are truly amazing, this is so American; Eating fast food in the car. I had Whataburger for the first time with my oldest brother after I helped him with a move to central Florida. We ate it in his truck😂
As a Texan who was born and raised in the town Harmon Dobson created What-A-Burger (as it was originally called) I can say that since it was bought out by a Chicago corporation, the quality has dropped DRAMATICALLY. Whataburger used to be a twice a week meal. Now it’s maybe once a year
Yep! Spot on there... second the dobsons sold out, quality of product and quality of service dropped like a rock. I used to work at whataburger... first job i ever had, worked 4 years. Last year there, the dobsons sold the company and everyone i worked with was pretty much absolutely livid over it... everyone, except a few managers.
Now a days... i only eat whataburger maybe once a year.
Serious family goals!
Whatavideo and Whatafamily ❤
Yummy!!! I went away for 2 weeks and suffered from a Whataburger withdrawal. This looks so good!!! The #7 is my order, with toasted hamburger buns!!! 😋
