    Tip you can farm bees with a skep. Breaking the bee hive prevents you from gathering the bees.

    it is interesting watching a new player discover the game for themselves. i think it a testament to whether a mechanic is intuitive or not. to save you some dig time however i will say the density mode on the prospecting pick can be done with samples 4 blocks apart in any direction, and you can add material of a different type to a chisel block by dragging it onto the plus sign in the (f) selection menu. for example for adding glass to your chiseled windows

      Maybe I just haven't looked in the right spot in the handbook, but I feel like the alloying is very unintuitive and obfuscated.
      I'm trying to play without looking stuff up online as much as possible, and a LOT of stuff can be found in game which is great, but the mineral names for example are kinda frustrating lol 🤦

    Tip: when exploring for ores, make a bunch of ladders and dig straight down. Ore deposits are usually only one or two blocks thick, but much wider (potentially hundreds of blocks wide). So it's very easy to miss a deposit diging horizontally, but much harder to miss digging vertically.
    Also, once you have a renewable source of beeswax, maybe look into how to make lanterns. They are brighter than the torch holders.

    • @cherryrook8684
      @cherryrook8684 9 місяців тому +1

      Water elevator works as well especially if you just do vertical 1 block shafts and is much MUCH cheaper than making thousands of ladders. He already has copper saw so making a single bucket is easier and the bucket can be refilled without picking up the water source block so you have essentially infinite water with a single full bucket, bonus with using water elevator is nothing will be able to spawn in the water so there won't be any drifters pestering you while mining

    • @AnotherJRB
      @AnotherJRB 9 місяців тому +1

      Interesting strategy. Although as of 1.19, being wet makes you get cold very quickly, so it might not be a viable choice during winter.
      Do note that if you use rope ladders and place them in a continuous line, you can pick them up from the top for easy reuse.

    14:06 You can stack ingots on the ground at about maybe 64 / block instead of on shelves at 4 / block. Also, you should take the meat out of the chicken and then throw it on the ground so that chickens can respawn because dead ones count towards the spawn cap.

  • @AnotherJRB
    @AnotherJRB 9 місяців тому +11

    Your house is very aesthetically pleasing, but I must say, it's not very winter-proof. The game has an "indoor warmth" effect that makes fires almost totally unnecessary for heating, but it only applies to rooms that follow specific rules about room size and construction.
    You can dry bowstaves on a tool rack. You might want to make some to hold your more situational tools as well, like the hammer and saw, which you aren't likely to need while exploring.
    Bees aren't hostile unless you disturb their nest. I would suggest marking the location of any future hives you find so you can set up a bee farm for renewable wax and honey; wild hives do not respawn and aren't that common.

    when prospecting with the pick you can't pick stones right next to each other. try at least 4-5 spaces between the stones. or just pick in 3 directions around you and that should work in 3 picks.

    Haven't seen anyone else say this so I'll say it:
    The difference in ore grade is that, when you break the chunks apart, high-grade ores drop more nuggets.
    The order is (from best to worst): Bountiful -> High -> Medium -> Low.
    So a High and a Low-grade copper vein will yield the same amount of breakable chunks, but the High-grade chunks will yield more nuggets from those chunks.

    Never has there been a time where I required more than two coal in the forge. As you can't unlit it, putting in more than two (more than one if you wanna be perfect) is a waste of coal. ;)
    Whenever you find bits (nuggets) of ore on the surface there will be a little vein below the dirt on this exact spot. Enjoy digging.

    Remember the borax now that you have bronze/iron! You can use it in making leather and you'll need it to make an iron anvil.
    Oh, and also, the reason your crops kept dying before was because wild animals were eating them, lol. You need to build a fence to keep rabbits and stuff out of your farms so they don't eat your crops.
    Also, you're lucky you found iron the way you did - it actually doesn't generate the way copper does. Iron comes in absolutely gigantic veins, but they're quite rare, and usually prospecting for an iron vein is quite difficult.
    A historical side note: the fact that you need bronze to get iron is actually quite ahistorical - you can use especially hard rocks as a surface to work iron (though they won't last too long), and there were a bunch of sub-saharan African civilizations that developed ironworking without first working brozne.

    • @zachatack24
      @zachatack24 9 місяців тому +1

      it is ahistorical in that you dont need bronze to work it rather it took time to find a method of heating it to the melting point to extract the iron from the oxides it is almost always found in. one example of the naturally pure Meteoric iron predating the iron age is Tutankhamen's dagger
      (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tutankhamun%27s_meteoric_iron_dagger)
      im off to google the sub-Saharan iron working now. thank you for that tidbit :)

  • @entropic-decay
    @entropic-decay 9 місяців тому +1

    the ore you found with your ultra high sphalerite, cassiterite, is tin - if you get some, you can make tin bronze. this is by far the simplest type of bronze to make, with the other two being alloys of three metals instead of just two (black bronze = copper silver and gold, bismuth bronze = copper zinc and bismuth)
    personally, I like making black bronze for aesthetic pieces, like lanterns, as I like how it looks. but tin bronze has the highest durability of the three and is the easiest to measure out alloying.

    • @TimmyTwoNipples
      @TimmyTwoNipples  9 місяців тому

      I love the look of the black bronze stuff in the handbook, haven't seen gold yet but I'll keep an eye out! :)

    • @theanyktos
      @theanyktos 5 місяців тому

      Tin bronze is definitely the most accessible, but it's the least durable (of the 3 bronze types) so tools made from it will have less durability than bismuth bronze and quite a bit less than black bronze. But all of them are better than copper.
