This Bastard did it again... He put a smile on my face with his massive playing, his expression, his use of dynamics and his style. The man is talented.
He made grown men cry when he returned to the U.S. in 2004, (The last concert i was able to attend; followed by heir Schenker.) after 19 years away. I'm talking about dudes w/leather and chain wallets man. tears came out of the side of my eyes. His emotive playing moved us all. And that was when he was playing 2 of Vivaldi's 4 Seasons. The quietist passages and the, as you said, violin-like crescendos moved us all. That night he ripped Little Wing and Watchtower with authority as well. He has a voice unto himself and not many guitarists or musical artists you can say that about.
@@antrygis1 He does make it sing like a violin. I've had a couple private guitar lessons with him in addition to going to the Sky Academy. I've actually hung out with him for several hours once (had a 1 hour private lesson and he gave me several more because we were enjoying hanging out). It was awesome. We talked about the Beatles, Dylan, world peace, health, etc. He's the most generous down to earth human. I remember him telling me how he can diffuse bad energy in a venue by changing/focusing the music to the negative energy and creating/projecting calmness (he said it in the kindest, simple way, no ego). I feel so fortunate to have met him as he's my favorite musician since I was a kid. Some people would die to meet Madonna, Michael Jackson, Van Halen, etc. For me, meeting Uli (several times) was a fantastic experience.
It should be way over a million watches. Uli has come over to AMERICA many, many times after his return in 2004. But I still wonder....how many of these who have watched are from the USA and how are from Europe and the rest of the world. One of the few living LEGENDS playing today. This is so bold, strong and emotive. It is out of the range of what listeners hear. The octaves on a guitar, beyond the range of a modern music fan. But it is great that more and more people have come to hear this original work of his and EXPAND their hearts, ears and minds. Amen.
Since the first time I heard Taken by Force Uli took me to a land of scales that were different than the rest I had heard.. Uli introducing melody with the minor modes changed the whole game as much as Sgt Peppers changed things. Being influenced by Jon Lord and Uli has made me do keyboard leads that take it to a new level. Thanks brother. I've passed on your teachings to many Canadian musicians. We all appreciate and respect you. God bless Mr. Roth.
Every great player creates a league of their own. It's just that Uli Jon Roth, created the playing field. Perfect balance of emotion and, virtuosic command. A gifted classical master, who just happens to rock the ever lovin', hell out of a 36 fretted guitar. Master of the universe, Master of the Sky Guitar. Uli the finest visionary of them all.
One of the few guitarists on the planet that actually pull off playing fast with such taste! Yeah there are a few other guys who play fast, but this is the master right here!
Uli John Roth is the most fluid guitar player I have ever seen. Does that make sense? It's like he is one with the guitar. Truly a master among mortals.
This is taking your guitar to the highest, and most intricate levels. Being technical , yes, but he plays with passion and compels you to go further... " follow me ..im telling a story "
Uli Jon Roth is one of the best guitar player of history if not the best. I have never seen anyone play his or her instrument like Uli Jon Roth himself.
"Best" in context of music is a destructive introduction of the concept of competition in a place where it generally does not belong, but even though I prefer Roth's work with the Scorps and Electric Sun to what he's done since he came up with the "sky" concept (except "Metamorphosis," which was phenomenal,) he's easily one of the most brilliant electric guitarists ever to walk on this particular planet. And I do not mean that in a "fanboy" sense, but from the context of a guitar and bass player with a background in rock, classical and jazz. Roth's sense of melody and phrasing are off the charts. It's just too bad the pickups he's using on the Sky Guitars are so overbearing and muddy. The Sky Guitars are beautiful instruments, no doubt, but the pickups are so hot that they kill all sense of subtlety. But that's a criticism of equipment. The artist himself is truly a master, on a par with Beck, Hendrix, Paul and Reinhardt.
Saw him last night at a tiny club in Huntington Beach, Ca, with about 50-60 people. A one in a lifetime experience to see such a talent in such a small venue. The band killed it and the sound was dialed in very well too...it was absolutely amazing :)
I have just discovered Uli Jon Roth because I saw him playing lead guitar with Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins At Rock Am Ring. They where playing Gossamer an amazing tune and his playing right up there with Billy's playing. Billy on lead guitar, Uli on lead guitar, Jeff on rhythm guitar, Ginger on base guitar, and Lisa on the keyboard it was beautiful.
Whoever said Uli has no soul is pretty mucho deaf, Uli is the true master of feeling-vivid-guitar, and I have heard comments as such by Lynch, Zakk Wylde and even Malmsteen
I just don't understand the number of dislikes of this song. I am amazed and awed by his talent. I can't count the number of times I have watched this video. Thanks for the post.
Saw Uli Jon last night in a Fridley Minnesota. bar. His performance was spectacular, he was humble, and the band was tight. I was ten feet away, and blown away by the musicianship, but also sad that only 100 people were there to witness it.
very creative nice to see guys who were inspired by hendrix take it to the next level instead of just rehashing.. great looking guitar... lots of frets and design innovations.. and a very nice composition... I stand in respect of this wonderful guitarist... a fine artist.. knock on wood..
Uli Jon Roth is now active with his album "Scorpions Revisited". Scorpions is active with their album "Return To Forever" and Michael Schenker's Temple of Rock (that has old members of the Scorpions) are active with the album "Spirit On A Mission". Plenty to discover for new and old fans alike!
I saw Uli back on stage in 1998, in Paris on the G3 tour (with ex-Jethro Tull Clive Bunker on drums), he started by playing this, a track that was never recorded in the studio (the live version included on Transcendental Sky Guitar seemd to be (partly) the one played that night in Paris)... I was just blown away... For me, he was so incredibly good. And yet I was used to virtuoso guitar players, but I was in awe... And I love his classical edge.
If there's a Merlin in guitar, its him. I love it that he uses just enough overdrive, just enough to get the job done. It allows the nuances of his playing and technique to come in full display. And that vibrato, as always, untouchable.
The shredders adapted Uli's technical innovations, but they completely missed out on his expressiveness and musicality. Listen to the guy's vibrato...Uli's music is really moving.
There is no way to criticise Ulrich. Some people will like his way of playing more, and some others less, but what it is clear is that his style is unique and he has a huge ability to play the gitar.
Just saw him a couple of weeks ago and got to talk to him. He is simply a beautiful guitarist and person. Best guitarist ever? Up there. God Bless him.
this is the first time Ive heard Uli, and its also the first time Ive ever heard Marty Friedman in another guitarist. Ive been looking forever for a guitarist with martys phrasing style and emotion in playing. this guys phrasing is genius!
After hearing this I believe Marty when he said he is a fan of Uli Jon. Marty kinda sounds like Uli but with a mix of Metal. Althouh Uli is a Rock Guitar player too.
Uli is one of the best rock guitarists ever! Have loved his playing since getting Scorpions Tokyo Tapes back in the very early 80's.He was and is a big influence and inspiration on my playing.
I can't be the only one who notices an abnormally high number of geniuses in the pool of unlucky people with ALS and related diseases. I've seen four of his N.Y. shows in recent years and all of Times Square vibrated with awe every time. (Spoke with him at one show. He's a beautiful person)
Thanx for the upload - I heard good things about him, but this is the first time I've seen, him. Unbelievable feel, and on such a difficult instrument. The range of 36 frets was a great idea

Uli Roth has the most beautiful electric tone I have ever heard. Easily one of the best ever electric guitarists and definitely the most underrated!
You should just say guitarist. He doesn't suck on acoustic either. He's every bit as good.
I always preferred his flavor of neo-classical shred over those who followed him. There is a grace and classiness to his classical.
Uli is the greatest violin player that never picked up a violin. He decided to build the Sky guitar and inspire anyone with a soul.
This Bastard did it again... He put a smile on my face with his massive playing, his expression, his use of dynamics and his style. The man is talented.

Uli gives a shit on becoming credit

Mr. uli Roth is a definite masterpiece creator
I just saw Yngwie play recently. Yngwie, we love you, but no one touches Uli.
It's not about how fast you can play it.
It's about how well you play it. Adding emotion into a solo.
Wow, Uli is great. I can't imagine how many hours of practice it took him to reach this level of playing.
uli was playing like this in the seventies with scorpions way before becker or malmstein
yes yngwie popularised the neoclassical metal genre, but he surely wasnt the inventor of it.
He was one of his inspirations to play guitar of this style. Along with Blackmore and Hendrix
No one plays in the seventies like uli. And still today he is the master. I'm from Germany so sorry for my bad English
I would his and Rudy's harmonies rivaled Maidens .
I can't wait to get my a sky guitar one day! I obsess with that guitar! I love the sound, the look, and the amount of frets!
