Amateur here ✋question Damascus is combo of 2 or more metal but if I take one big piece of metal and cut in raindrop or ladder patterns and then hit everything with hammer wouldn't there be Damascus mark because where it's cut it have little metal so when it come together it should show some type of mark right?
Lost my forge to a flood, just have my anvils, a couple hammers, about a decade later, getting back into the work with only minimal time and resources and a can do attitude. The blade design here is similar to the larger chopper you made I really want to have from your huge cleaver from spring 11 months ago, similar edge profile. It's the perfect knife in my opinion but would love to have one without polished work, just rough shaping and heat treated. I want to make the larger one is what I am saying but haven't the tools or space, just the tools and skill to do finishing that really isn't needed for practical work horse tools, so it's fine if it's rough. This one looks amazing, as all your works do.
First time here. First off very cool to see a coal forge and you setting the welds by hand before moving onto power tools. Got to be honest I thought you were going to get some cold shuts the way the initial billet shifted under the power hammer. Beautiful piece and a great show of craftsmanship. Side note didn't see you use any ear protection for most of this video i hope your taking care of yourself. Working in a manufacturing environment is brutal on the hearing even simple noise cancelling headphones can remove some harmful frequencies.
