Goodford Model Railway MK3 - 17. End of the line for the MK3 layout

- It is both a sad and happy occasion to be posting this video. The MK3 version of Goodford Model Railway will soon be broken down due to a house move, of course this is quite a sad thing to say but all good things must come to an end and I've learned so much along the way through the many hours of planning and head scratching whilst building Goodford Model Railway MK3.
Of course, the good news is that, in theory, I will have the opportunity to start all over again in a new house however expect it will be some time before trains will be up and running again. There won't be any more progress made on the layout itself. In my lifetime this will be layout build number 7 (excluding any extensions to existing layouts) and I would say I have never really "completed" a layout so it is a shame to have got reasonably close however I hope Goodford MK4 will be located somewhere I plan to live for many years so fingers crossed it will be an new opportunity to get closer to a finished layout.
We haven't officially sold the house yet however I expect it will be in the coming months, so I will spend this time updating rolling stock (maybe even trying some weathering!) and will be sure to record plenty of videos to try and keep the channel alive during the house move.
Thanks for everyone's support, ideas and encouragement during the build of Goodford MK3, it has always been welcomed with open arms.

Nothing worse than a house move when you’ve got a model railway 🙄 We moved in December last year and it took me ages pulling up my layout and it’s still boxed up lol 😆 Hopefully you’ll find a lovely new home with a fantastic railway room 👍🏻 Make sure you box everything and label 🏷 it and good luck 🤞🏻
Gutten this layout has to be taken apart. But looking forward to following your progress building a new one.

Going to be tough but it is always good to build again and what you have learnt from this one will go into the next. Looking forward to it and all the best.

Exciting news about moving, although sad about layout! As an N gauge modeller I do enjoy following you and will remain subscribed! Hope you and your partner find the ideal house. Don't despair if there is no train room or if it's smaller, but ask yourself is there room for a trainshed in the new garden! Good luck with the new plans. Looking forward to Goodford mk4 already!

I think you should do videos on how you dismantle the layout, how you decide what to keep and what to discard, etc. Good luck with the move.
Good idea, I might well do that - if you can cope seeing a grown man cry in the video too! 😂
@@GoodfordModelRailway As a beginner and newcomer to the hobby, I watch quite a lot of tutorial or layout building videos - and they always say when they have to rip something up or re-do it, but then almost never show the process. From a purely selfish point of view, I think it would be useful - although yeah, must be sad to do.

If I have learned anything on these channels is that a layout is never finished, there are always improvements .

Hi . It's always a heartbreak to dismantle a layout that you've put so much money/time/energy into creating, but hey ho, onto new and better things. On a purely selfish note, I'm not so big a fan of running sessions videos (although it's always nice to see some trains running); I wonder if Goodford MK4 is an opportunity to see some how-to (or at least, how I do it) videos. Good luck with the move.
Hi Paul, Sure, I’ll try to put some how-to videos together. I’ve not done many as I’m generally learning how to do things on the fly myself so may not be the easiest video to make or edit, or it could end up being 20 hours long! 😂 Cheers, Dave

Thanks Susannah, it will be a bit heartbreaking but hopefully the next house will present a new opportunity. My partner is already dreading the 50+ times where I’ll confirm the final track plan…. and then have a new idea a couple of days later! 😂
So, the abattoir I suggested isn't happening on this layout then Dave! lol...Seriously, it's been a pleasure to watch your channel over the months and I will look forward to the new layout. BTW, I've now started my own channel showing my layout, Valebridge, (under construction) if you'd like to take a look. I've uploaded a few videos and there'll be many more coming, and quite quickly as I get the hang of it! Most of my vast amounts of rolling stock is boxed up so I'm just mainly using some test trains currently. I'm just filming the new Dapol JHA Yeoman wagons for a video which I'll be uploading later. Sad to see Mk3 go. Look forward to seeing Mk4 take shape. Have you thought of putting a temp frame onto the sections then you might be able to save some for the mk4 save some build time. Good luck with the move. Stay safe.
Thanks for the idea Mike, not entirely sure what you mean but I plan to break the entire layout down and start again. What the new one will look like is unknown as we haven’t decided where we will be moving to just yet. Cheers, Dave

Good luck with the move and dismantling, I'll be sticking around. Just out of interest, where did you get those railway arches from, the ones you have under the station? I seem to be quite fussy about my arches, and I like yours over any other I've seen.
Thanks for the support and for sticking around! The arches are from the Wills range, painted in red and then I used a cream coloured wash before weathering 👍

@@Heathparkmodelrailway we are not sure what area we will go to just yet but roughly will be between Dawlish and Brixham. I don’t think I’ll be getting rid of anything until we have moved and new layout has been planned properly. I have a bad habit of selling stuff and buying it again - I’m on my 3rd Bachmann engine depot! 😂

Im local to both dawlish and brixham if you do ever clear anything.
I would build yourself a Trakmat layout. That will allow you to continue to make and upload videos during the time you have no permanent layout! Have fun!
