  • With all of the Sprinter Camper Vans out there some people are looking for a cheaper option. I honestly never thought about a transit bus but after seeing this build I am reconsidering. What do you think?

I am an “older” women who was thinking about a schooley conversion BUT after watching this video I am honestly considering a shuttle bus 🚌
I think that since it would only be for one person, the size makes more sense & if I was to go with the school bus it prob would have been a short bus anyways, so the shuttle is a good comparison. I believe in finding a shuttle that it might have been treated a bit better in life than a school bus was treated so in the end my purchase would be a better bargain. I love all the window so I think I’m in the right path with a shuttle bus ❤️❤️❤️

Robbyn and Eric, yours is easily the most beautiful and stylish shuttle bus-to-rolling tiny home conversion I've seen to date. Eric seems like a _VERY_ handy gent to have around, and the Frank Lloyd Wright influence is obvious (I'm also an enthusiastic fan of Wright's work). If the exterior rebuild of Woo turns out as well as the interior has, you will have what might be finest vehicle of its size and type in the U.S.!
I'm due to retire in 6-7 more years, and as my former retirement nest egg has been cracked and scrambled, first by the 2008-09 recession, and now again by the pandemic-related recession, a shuttle bus-based tiny home may end up being my new golden years retirement plan.
I will be following your adventures on Wander Boom, as the two of you seem to be my kind of creative, industrious and adventurous people. Thank you for the tour! Stay safe and take good care of one another.

WOW - amazing conversion, I am 6' 3" and that means most class B's are a no go. The key to this conversion is Eric is a master craftsman. One in a million (probably more like ten million) people have this level of skill in building original fixtures.

I gotta give it to him, he's honest enough to admit to what most people ( as we can see by the comments) would never admit to even a day without a bath. But that's about the extent of how much props I'll give him. I don't have to smell them , heck I don't even know them or think I ever will. But in the spirit of sharing on the comments, I personally couldn't do it. In fact, anytime I see these builds I immediately look for a bath with toilet, a TV , and a kitchen. Can't live without those so I don't subscribe to builds without those. But that's me and they're them😉😉😉😉😉

    • @jenniferhill8776
      @jenniferhill8776 4 роки тому

Agreed. If you don't sweat alot and don't work out, you may not need to shower daily. I agree with him on the shower comment, some folks don't need to do it but once a week. If you wear pants all the time and jackets when you go out, or always when you leave your car, your entire body is covered so your body is not in direct contact with the outside world. The only thing I would add is wet wipes are essential for private parts & if you want to be more clean, you have to figure out a way to give your private parts a bath using a portable bidet (hello tushy - or just water in a large cup) and a bed pan & soap. Now I will say if you are a sweaty person, work out or so extraneous activities requiring more physical exertion, or if you folk who eat heavy spices which fragrance leeches thru your pores then yes, do shower! I wear pants all the time, even a super lightweight jacket in the summer & have no problems. The only other area I would make an exception on is feet, I sometimes need to wash my feet if I have been wearing sandals vs sneakers.

Love love the overall look to your home. Being a woodworker, I love the use of one piece of board that spans both sides of the bus as well as the cabinets. Keeping the live edge on both the countertops and cabinets gives the kitchen area a warm feeling. Get some pumpkins spice potpourri and it will feel like your in a stick and mortar home.

The bus build was interesting and always nice to see a different vehicle. An art loving couple to be sure! I loved the paintings on the wall. We saw just a glimpse of the paintings, but they were very lovely.
One tip - if you point the camera at anyone, they feel obliged to talk to the camera. If you pan it around we see more with less distraction trying to listen, and it puts people at ease. Sometimes, silence is best.
A couple of things stood out:
    1. I often wondered about redwood or cedar cabinets because the wood is so light. But my fears about lighter wood tearing off hinge attachments were justified, as Eric mentioned briefly.
    2. Those rotary hinges on the cabinets are very nice and can be very pricey if made by Blum, which charges $30 each (not even a pair!), so any cheaper Chinese source would be nice to know. I wanted to know how their rotary hinges held up, if they are good quality, and where to buy? All RVers struggle to find good cabinet hinges. The gas strut hinges are not consistent in quality and easily affected by weight of cabinet doors.
    3. I would like to know where he bought the Separette part of the composting toilet? One of the best I've seen.
    4. Very nice woodworking by Eric! Great details on the cab overhead storage area, cabinets, walls, and overall build. Good job, Eric!!
    Great tour, Chris! Thank you!

I absolutely love this bus! Would suit me perfectly..........and before any more people say anything negative about not taking showers........and I promise you will find this to be true............older people just don't need to shower as much. We aren't as active as the younger crowd, and our skin is starting to dry out naturally, so too much bathing is not good for the skin. You would be amazed at what one can accomplish with bathing wipes. Nothing wrong with it.......mild soap is used.......simple......not drying......and yes you smell good afterwards! lol So give that whole thing a rest. Nice job on the composting toilet. Everything is really just beautiful, cozy, inviting and I'm sure all your friends are jealous! I certainly am.

Such a beautiful job with it all! I love the sink and faucet, and the fridge! I hadn't seen a fridge like that before and I watch these videos all the time. Oh, and that table! That made me smile! What a nifty idea and Eric is the bomb! All of the touches on this home are just so impressive! The price was a total steal!!! We are going to retire this way. Not sure if it will be a short bus or a cargo trailer pulled by a van, which is most likely the way we will go because he snores and I like my sleep, so he can sleep in the van. 🇬🇧 Get Eric a hanger system for slotting shoes into and fasten it on a hook under the cupboard over the back door so that it hangs down by the side of the back door frame. They sell them for fastening onto the inside of clothes closet doors or from a clothes rail. Usually made of canvas and you could also find something similar in a camping shop.

Eric, You did an amazing job! The woodwork and how you put everything together is incredible! I'm in the process of buying a mini-school bus and I will be referring back to this video often. I'm glad you both went into so much detail about how you put everything together from the cabinets to the cushions to the bathroom walls. Thank you, and safe travels! John

Cold air is denser, so if you can mount a fan near the rear of the bus and push the cold air towards the cockpit, the incoming cold air will push the hot air out of it's way (towards the back) more efficiently than trying to push hot air from the front into/through cool dense air in the bedroom.

SS the main thing about living in a bus or motorhome,is the freedom, waking up in a different area every other week is wonderful,i lived in a truck slide out for 2 1/2 years,on the go,saved our 37k in rent, taxes and the rest of the static living expenses, you only sleep 8 hours, why pay 250k for a house when you are rarely there, most of the people I know, have trophy homes and they're never there, that makes sense

strattuner many advantages to owning a home. I will mention just one. I paid of my house and property in 15 years and now own it free and clear. There is something to be said for the security of owning your own piece of dirt. Never homeless, never looking for places to park your vehicle where you're safe, and now that I paid my place off I have an asset worth a few hundred thousand, real estate is a great investment. I own a travel trailer and the wife and I travel often but it feels good to get back home after a long trip. My advice, work hard, get a 15 year mortgage, and get it paid off when young. You now own a major asset which will appreciate over time. Rent it out if you want to live in a vehicle.

I've owned properties, three, one residence and two rentals, people right now are losing their homes,as long as you pay taxes you don't own nothing, road taxes I understand, but property taxes are criminal,no thanks, hammers and shovels don't fit my hands,i'm old now and a helluva lot smarter,i dont' spackel windowns or do roofing anymore, you go ahead a do your thing, mine is waking up in a new surrounding till I die, same view aint for me,enjoy fast dude,WC FIELDS said it best,AH YES,EXPERIENCED IT ONCE IN MY YOUTH,TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE,TERRIBLE,LOL,have a good time,we roll but once

Glad it works for you guys. It kind of looks like a $3K van that was converted by a 1st-timer AND that's just a personal opinion, not a criticism as it is much, MUCH better than I could ever do on my own, I can promise you that. No way could I make something as functiional as you guys have.
If I were traveling with a romantic partner, I think I'd require a shower more than once every week/week-and-a-half? Wipes can only clean so much bacteria out of your nether regions before the stench of bacteria overgrowth starts to waft out of your undies. Maybe consider utilizing that Planet Fitness gym membership more than once a week? lol
You've done a much better job than I could ever hope to do, and without having to sink $50K into the build, so I commend you both on that. Safe and happy travels~

The shuttle bus is so much better than a school bus. Double layer fiberglass is far superior to a thin skin of steel. Much cooler in the sun and warmer in the winter. Trust me I live in one.
