Random question, what skates do you use? Also does anyone have any tips for forward scratch? I’m always rocking on my blade or my upper body bends which results in me giving the ice a big ol’ hug
Hey Coach Mary! I’m practicing my jumps but I’m really struggling with my anti-clockwise jumps. I’m right handed but I can jump better clockwise. Do you have any tips to help me with my anti-clockwise jumps?
I’d just share that I am right handed but always skated as a lefty. I have no idea why, but spinning and jumping clockwise was much easier for me. Is there a reason you feel you need to jump or spin counter-clockwise?
@@CoachMarySkating Hi, i´ve mean the backward outside pivot. No vid shows this trick really good! The name compass come´s from ice freestyle. Great work, Mary!
Hi thank you for the great video! I have a question as I’ve been really struggling. Basically I’ve been doing waltz jumps for a long time and this problem has never occurred before but every time I take off I’ve started slipping off the back of the blade rather than taking off from the toe pick. It’s pretty bad because I fall and hit my face on the ice every time, do you know if there is a reason for why I am doing this? Thank you!
Well waltz is basically 1/2 axel, I think? For me I would make sure the loading time is sufficient (I normally hold for 3 seconds) and take off with my weight shifted to the middle. Since axel is an edge jump and not a toe jump, it would be incorrect to take off from the toe pick anyway. If you are able to rotate and jump but can't land or take off, I would suggest working on balance, edges (take off is usually left foot outside and landing is right foot outside) and maybe posture. Also I find it easier to gain speed by using different forms of entries (mohawk is suggested if you're a beginner or if you can do other jumps, maybe do it as a combination). It's harder to balance at a slower speed in my opinion. (I know I'm replying like a year too late but hope it was helpful anyway)

Wow these exercises look like so much fun. I need to get back on the ice but with the pandemic haven’t been able to get to my local rink. 😭
It’s so tough with the pandemic! Hopefully soon :)
Thanks so much Mary. I'll try these out when my ice rink opens again. Subscribed!

This is not just skating. It’s an imaging art 👍👋

Hi Mary, I saw a hydroblade tutorial on your channel, but I didn't find a cantilever. Please make a video on how to do a cantilever.
