If one wishes to support the channel monetarily, but would rather not join the Patreon, here is a way to do so. UA-cam and Patreon both take percentages of earnings from videos (in UA-cam's case, I'll make around 5-10% of what any given video makes, the rest goes to supporting the Label who owns the copywrite and to supporting the platform, so this is a helpful way to help me keep on making videos. I appreciate it:)

I clicked quickly to watch when I saw you were reacting to Jewel. Her "Pieces of You" album is a favorite that I haven't listened to in a long time and had almost forgotten how much I loved her music. You should check out more of her songs because your mother would never steer you wrong. 😊
She's fantastic at taking small details and telling big stories.
Who Will Save Your Soul should definitely be next from her. It's from 1995, but still painfully relevant to current events.
Agree! It's my 2nd favorite song by her!
She is really fantastic to watch live!
I think she sounds like Kermit the Frog on that song. 🐸
I like Jewel and know she's extremely talented. Just a thought about that song.
Glad she brings such joy to "you." Music is magical! #SingerSongwriter
Wait Who Will Save Your Soul is a great song but how it is relevant to current events? Lol
@@NotANameist Seriously? Are you kidding with your question?
@@MissAstorDancer yes. no.
I always liked this song. Thanks for choosing it. Great job!!
Thanks Daniel's Mom.
I like how the chorus can sound hopeful on the surface but really it's expression how dreams of love last so long even after the realty is long dead. Love Jewel's music and great reaction!
Bittersweet beautiful song love her voice thanks for great reaction
Your mum did a great job selecting this song. Fantastic artist.
She's still out there performing and sounds pretty awesome still.
My favorite by her is "Who will save your Soul" check it out. She has a great voice.
If she isn't already in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, she deserves to be. Her music is special. Please listen to, even if not a reaction, the song A Life Uncommon. It's beautiful.
For me, being her age at the time, she created a new type of sexy. She revived the singer songwriter genre. She also was disregarded to soon after a couple years.
Your mom has great musical taste Daniel! Jewel has some a unique awesome voice. She was around 20 yrs old I think when this came out.
This is a sad song. The poor girl is in a delusional state unfortunately; keeping her from losing it completely I’m guessing💔. I just want to give her hug.
WOW, Daniel! Really thrilled to see you doing a reaction to Jewel! She is one of my favorite female singers! She is very unique! And she is also a beautiful woman!!!! Stunning, in fact!
Yes, this is not the original "radio" single, but it still good.
My favorite song by her is "Hands". I'd love to see you react to it! Beautiful and deep lyrics! One of the lines from it has been kind of my "signature" line for years:
"In the end, only kindness matters."
She's pretty awesome
:) Daniel, I realized this evening, that I cannot do anything around the house while watching your reactions. LOL! :) Nothing gets done & I end up binge watching your videos! I mean, really 'watching' them - not just for background noise. :) :)
Jewel is so gifted & your Mom has great taste!!
Great reaction! Thanks, Daniel!
:)
She seems to be a very grounded performer. I believe she lives simply and has wisely managed her fortune now focusing on family.
Jewel is also a celebrated yodelist! She’s won awards.
Wait until you hear "Who Will Save Your Soul"....
Love Jewel. Please try her song ‘Hands’ .
"Hands" is a great song. I think Daniel is a Christian and that song will speak to him.
@@i_kill_for_zardoz Why would you think he’s a Christian?
@@evanhughes1510 he has said so
eek no. LOL
This song was written together with Steve Poltz, who is an incredible artist in his own right. Try any of his songs, but "Stax" and "Chinese Vacation" are a couple of my favorites.
Steelheart shes gone... Beautiful his voice is amazing ..
More Jewel please! Her song "Perfectly Clear" please!!!!
She did a duet with Merle Haggard with one of his songs on a awards show. Of course Merle wrote most of his songs and was known as the poet of the common man.
It's a great song man these came out when I was really young I always liked it
Discovered your channel searching for a reaction to this song, yours is the only video on it I’ve seen! Very nice reaction. I love this song but much preferred the version they played on the radio when it first became a hit. The follow up Foolish Games is also awesome... I played those two songs all the time. Later in the early 2000s she had another great song more up beat and danceable, called Intuition.
Jewel has a pretty interesting life story. She was raised in rugged Alaska, most of her life, and prior to becoming famous, she was homeless for a long period in San Diego. Jewel has had many hit song through the 90s and 2000s. You need to do several more of her biggest songs, like Standing Still, Down So Long, Who Will Save Your Soul, Hands. In fact, please do Standing Still next! It’s from 2002 and was a big radio hit!
Lovely, thoughtful review!
I took a leak and I put the seat down 'cause
Screams last so long wet but you weren't gonna drown.
You got the house indeed butt slidin' on the rim to po..stew.
His lost Crane verse nearly wiped by Comet.
So sad that today most younger people have no clue who Jewel is. Such a talented, genuine artist.
Saw Jewel twice at the Inner Change coffee shop in San Diego (Pacific Beach) when she was about 19 or 20, pre-album. We knew she'd make it for two reasons: her talent, obviously, though some songs meandered; her beauty; she had no qualms showing off her ample cleavage.
In her bio she relates that after a few albums and buying a home in Ranch Santa Fe her manager mother left her bankrupt. They haven't spoken since.
Not a group, she is Jewel.
A great sweet sad song tat was a hit. Here is another sad deep fantastic song by Joni Mitchell called The River, so touching!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️😢
Omg probably the only existent reaction to this song. I’m 38 and this is one of my favourite songs ever, such a beautiful story telling. I would encourage you - whether you post it or not - to watch the original video, which is an amazing piece as well, and it features the original song, which is a better take - in my opinion - on the singing department. Cheers 😘
Pieces of You is a great album!
Depeche Mode just reminded me (because were Facebook friends) that there is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction this weekend. Perhaps a set of reactions: Depeche Mode, Whitney Houston, The Doobie Brothers and Nine Inch Nails. Good mix of music.
Pieces of you is an amazing song. So is foolish games
I’m in love with my French teacher (don’t worry, I’m 47 😉. I know he loves me but since he’s my teacher it makes impossible. “But I know he loves me and soon he will see, he was meant for me and I was made for him”
I’m not trying to hold on into an impossible, happiness is mine just knowing he exists.
Love you Dan but most importantly I love S.
Lu
Liked and subscribed.. Your mom has great taste.. 😔
I find it particularly interesting how you guys seem to need to read the lyrics to be able to understand what's being said in your own mother tongues! When I listen to songs in portuguese, I just get 'em. More often than not, i don't need lyrics even for English, which is my second language. Anyways, great reaction. She's even better live. I like it when she yodels (she has a yodel song u should check out) . Please react to Painters, and Sometimes it be that way. Thanks for the upload!
You need to do "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones. Also, check out some Sade. "Paradise", Smooth Operator", "Sweetest Taboo", and/or "Your Love Is King" are all good ones. Smooth grooves.
Jewel is the (very good-looking) artist of this song from 1995.
This is the plain album version of the song, but the radio/single version was a different recording that sounded different
The single version was multi tracked and processed. This is a raw take from the sound of it.
@@visaman I’d say the single version is more refined and upbeat-sounding, with a somewhat faster tempo; the album version is slower and stripped down without multi track in the chorus
Jewel really is very talented lyrically and vocally, and a bit deceptively simple. It's a terrible pun, but she was a gem in late '90s music, and just very refeshing in the post-grunge era.
You should also check out Sarah McLachlan and Katie Melua, even Fiona Apple. They're not exactly the same, but in a way that's good i think. Great artists and great music though.
Who will save your soul is my favorite Jewel song. Pretty please ??? 😆🤣😅
Too bad you didn't watch the music video. I think that is what your mom intended for you to review. It is very different.
BTW, the single version used to play in my bank office every day and I was wishing I was in my pajamas too. 😂
Please do ‘Standing Still’!
As others here are saying, Jewel's "Who Will Save Your Soul" is a must for you to react to .. But another brilliant performance is her successful single "Foolish Games" .. ua-cam.com/video/UNoouLa7uxA/v-deo.html .. Please check it out too .. Wayne
I love your explanation of this lyric. Please do a song by Sia called Breathe me.
If you haven't listened to the band 10 years you should check it out. I personally recommend "the autumn effect" album. Not a bad song on it
What is this version? I dont know 😒 sounds flat compared to the one im familar with
Agreed. The single version is better, but I don't hate it.
Original is a 10/10.This is barely a 5/10.Daniel,find the original version buddy, you'll know what I and others mean.
This IS the original version, from the album. They cleaned it up for the single/video.
this version is really missing something
Pretty sure this is the original version.
Her real masterpiece is Foolish Games.
Anyone else hear that it was Daniel’s mom recommending Jewel and then started freaking out wondering how old you are now? Or was that just me? Lol
Awesome!
Does your mom like John Denver??
Yes, Daniel do you know of John Denver? Loved to sing his tunes as a kid. Don't hear him much on radio anymore
Looked him up, never heard of him. Yet:)
@@DiconDissectionalReactions a lot of great tunes, around the campfire type songs. He also made several Disney type movies. Too bad his own pilot error lead to his middle aged death. Warm place in my heart and childhood memories
@@DiconDissectionalReactions OMG! You are in for an experience.
Look up the Wildelife Concert. I'm sure you've heard of many songs he has written.
@@DiconDissectionalReactions I think you'd enjoy JD he's got roots from folk and was quite the songwriter.
There's nothing wrong with the studio version of "Who Will Save Your Soul," but treat yourself to this live version of the song: ua-cam.com/video/fdjOQERC9-0/v-deo.html
You should check out Who Will Save your Soul by Jewel. It was the first single from the album. I think that it shows of her voice and songwriting even better. ua-cam.com/video/0wBDDAZkNtk/v-deo.html
I f you like this I think you will like Florence + The Machine........
You have a pretty cool mom if she suggested this.😎👍 Great song from back in the day
Jewel's from Alaska. Her familys is featured in the reallity TV show Alaska the Last Frontier. Also react to Who's Gonna Save your Soul by Jewel
Thanks for mentioning.
That is one of my favorite shows and I have enjoyed the 3 or 4 shows Jewel and her son go back to Alaska.
Started to search the comments for the show's title, instant success. Watched every episode but then I forgot.
Interesting
She was living out of her car when Sean Penn discovered her and backed her career. Breakout star!
@@foxandscout thank you for the backstory
Great song. Jewel came around during a time when I'd long been unimpressed by the contemporary pop music of the time, and got me paying attention again. I enjoyed a number of her songs, in their time. This one holds up better than some of the others. As a poet, I've long had deep respect for her as a lyricist/poet.
Jewel isn't a group. She's a singer songwriter :). I LOVE this entire album. And you would have a lot to pick apart with all the songs on it :). Most of the songs on that album are her singing and playing guitar. there aren't many with other instruments.
Oh, by the way, you made me grin pretty big when you broke into song with a Turtles tune.
Me three
Me four
Great singer/songwriter. I saw her open for Neil Young or Jerry Garcia band. It was a tough crowd but she won them over. Great performer. Love her.
You must do 1000 miles away by jewel at the Meyerson symphony theatre in Texas!
You are quite amazing Daniel, to have such feeling and sensitivity for these songs you are reacting to, considering your very young age .. You seem to have a wisdom and understanding of life and love that most people who are much older would simply never attain .. Cheers, Wayne
Ultimate break up Album. Many a dampened pillows, from this whole album. ❤️
Yes. AND....despite the fact that she's "changing" every little thing that he didn't like.... it was never the REAL reason it didn't work... SOMETIMES Daniel, illusions (or delusions) have value. At least they give you a reason to get back up each morning and TRY...You are young and, honestly, I pray you never feel this way. Keep doing YOU son, WE love it!!!
Nice song, good reaction. This song plays on the same emotional sentiment as Don McLean's song Empty Chairs.
Jewel is very real. "Foolish Games" is stellar.
Juel Kilcher. I was obsessed with "dissecting" this album when it first came out. It's so depressing, sad, (songs Adrian & Painters) makes you think, but also a lil cozy warm quirky? Lol it makes me feel like I live alone in a cabin in the mountains above a forest alone but among the beauty. Ughh it also reminds me of my sister - I think she bought this album for me, we recently lost her.
Great song. Very nineties folk rock.
Recommend John Hiatt’s song A Perfectly Good Guitar...a song about smashing guitars.
My first concert and album was Black Sabbath.......but I love me some Jewel!!!
Great artist! I would suggest her song Hands next. You might use the official video on this one... You won't be sorry....
Another female artist to review is Alanis Morissette... Kind of the polar opposite of Jewel in some ways...
I haven’t heard this in 20 years or so… omg 😆 it was my heartbreak song, I even tried to play it on my guitar and sing it, badly obviously. Jewel’s voice is so unique, she plays with it as her technique is so perfect she can do whatever she wants with it.
This reminded me of my teenage years, thank you :)
This album came out when I was just entering middle school - a time when we begin our jour et of self discovery, which can be painful and scary at times. Jewel SAVED my adolescence.
This is the only Jewel song that I know of that she co-wrote with another artist. Being a prog rock fan my friends and family think it's hallarious that I love Jewel. Pieces of You is one of the best debut album ever written. Not only is Jewel fantastic singer her guitar playing is fantastic. Live she is one of the best at addressing the audience. You should listen to the whole album. Her writing is second to none.
Always loved her !! Great 80s and 90s music!!!
IT'S A FEMALE DANIEL AND HER NAME IS JEWEL! :) SHE'S A 90'S ARTIST THE OTHER BIG HIT FROM THIS DEBUT ALBUM WOULD BE ( WHO WILL SAVE YOUR SOUL ) GOOD TUNE
Foolish Games was the biggest for me. Still my favorite from Jewel ever!
Who Will Save Your Soul next plz, the message applies more today than when it was released.
Let's go Brandon this guy picks music
I still think you should check out some Toad The Wet Sprocket!
Foolish Games-Love song to a narcissist
I like the radio version better.
I was just thinking about Jewel today. So cool to come across this one love her I love you
She pulled off a decent Karen too.
whole album is good
Your mom is cool.
Music stores had Smoke on the Water, Stairway to Heaven, and in same way, this song. When a girl picked up a blue acoustic, the staff ran for cover. She is irresistible though.
I never really took in those lyrics so carefully as I just did. Great poetry in this song. Really vulnerable, touching and real. Quite motivating for more writings.
ty mom
This is the plain album version of the song, but the radio/single version has a different recording that sounds different
I thought there was different phrasing on this. That explains it
Jewel is a sweetheart. Love her voice.
I have a request. You've mentioned Harry Chapin's sad songs, so I'd like to introduce you to his other side. React to 30,000 Pounds of Bananas. A funny story of a young's untimely demise.
Started out yodeling with her dad. Lived on the streets for a while until she was helped by Sean Penn to get a recording contract and launch her career. Next reaction should be "Who will save you, soul".
Jewel is a classically trained vocalist, that is why her voice is so very good to listen to.
No my dear friend no, Kristen Chenowith is a classically trained vocalist she got a masters degree in opera jewel only had classical training in high school big difference
