    I feell so lucky to be on the east side of the north cascades, we have tons of exposed hard granite, and the biggest thing to worry about is drilling into a pocket of pegmatite, but you can feel that as soon as you whack it, it's basically what he describes at 6:15

    Great oratory style. I'm planning to take a page or two out of your book and try it out in the classroom.

    Wedge bolts are a fraction of the cost of sleeve bolts like Powers/Rawls 5 piece, especially if you're buying sleeve bolts from Fixe who marks them up like crazy. We pretty much exclusively use wedge bolts in our varied granite here in northern Colorado, with the occasional 5pc/sleeve bolt used as replacement for spinners or not as good/softer rock. We use 1/2" sleeve as a replacement with the same hole for a 3/8" wedge, and we sometimes even use 1/2" wedge for questionable rock.

    Hey Ryan where did you find your metal fid for making whoopies? The plastic one I have is really difficult to use.

    • @HowNOT2
      @HowNOT2  5 років тому +2

      You can google splicing fid to see all the options but this site works too www.westmarine.com/buy/samson-rope--double-braid-splicing-kit--P002_068_007_503?recordNum=2
      I always buy 1 size bigger than I think i need and i can get the tail in the inside of fid which is what makes them work... otherwise you are taping the end of your amsteel to end of fid and it sucks.

    Those with voids (chasms actually) in basic geology should avoid instructing others on rock types, and by extension rock bolting - truly scary and irresponsible to pretend my man.

      Not for a flash rig in mexico that isn't exactly legal. And who travels with all that anyways? ;) Do you epoxy wedge bolts? haha

      @@HowNOT2 you are missing what I am saying. I am a deputy inspector. I do inspections on epoxy anchors and wedge anchors. I also have a degree in geology. I was just correcting the terminology. Cleaning the hole is one of the more important things in either process. I have observed and tested thousands of bolts and wedge anchors. Not trying to ruin your day. I am also not a slack liner. I just listen to you talk about these particular things incorrectly. Just trying to help. Your videos are good.

      Sorry, thumbnail was of our sketchy line in mexico. I thought it was that video. That's what i get for replying too fast haha. So lets start over, what am I calling them? What you are calling them is what I thought i was saying. What kind of environments are you testing bolts and can you send pic of the machine you use? I just started BoltBusters to test bolts (and film them) in real rock in real as I can scenarios - good and bad. Machine goes to 100kn. And is this glue legit that says hole cleaning is not necessary? www.hilti.com/c/CLS_FASTENER_7135/CLS_INJECTABLE_ADHESIVE_ANCHORS_7135/r4993
