  • We are building the next section for the Timber Frame Workshop. The Post and Beams take longer to prepare then material for conventional framing. We are at the last & final section of the build which will have the sawmill and lumber storage area. Everything from the Raw material to the final product is our means of building.     I have been watching y'all since season two. Love the homestead! Love the building projects. I plan to build some wonkie structures in the next two years and fully intend on using a lot of the techniques you've shown us on your vids. Good luck with the final section of the workshop/sawmill building. It looks great and will last for generations.
    My wife and I get a kick out of the reaction from Smoky and Dollie when you ask them if they want to go to the C R E E K. You can't help but laugh. They are truly happy dogs. and they are blessed to have a family like yours.

    A great time was had by all. Thanks for sharing with us Richard and Jennifer and you too Bob for the great visit with them. Sure like those beams and supports being milled and mortised for all type of framing. Stay safe and I hope all is good around the cabin for everyone in this weather. .     I’ve been watching you for a short time now but only because I just ran across your channel. I was wondering what do you seal the lumber with after you burn it and what does it look like years later. I really like that the things that you build will be here for many years to come for others to enjoy and appreciate the craftsmanship

      Hey, welcome to the channel. Been quite busy. Trying to get out a year in video this week on 2023’s accomplishments since we’ve been snowed in. It’s called Australian timber oil and a company called Cabot makes the product. Hands-down the best stuff I’ve ever used.

    Have enjoyed watching your videos immensely. I was in the construction industry for most of my career. I’m 74 now and was a carpenter for most of the years in the trade. Keep your videos coming. Since I can’t do this type of work any more due to some health issues I remember a lot of different things I helped build.

    I enjoy your videos. We have lots of snow here now and my sawmill sits idle waiting for spring. I plan on building a shed for it next summer so I don't have to take it out of the woods each winter.

    I noticed that after you de-stress the outside of your beams, you don't seem to do anything else to them, other than burn them. I used to de-stress beam for multi$$ homes, and we would take a heavy-duty wire brush cup and go over the outside of the beams with brush and grinder. This procedure will soften the beam exterior so it's safer to handle, and the beam receives stain so much better. The process doesn't take much time, and the finished look of the beam is great. Just sharing differently up to you. 👍 looking great anyway.

      Not yet but we may put one out ! We are also of thinking of putting out some small woodworking plans, like of things that we have built. So that others can also build them if they’d like to. It would be a small cost but nothing too crazy.

    What happened to the heavy duty sawhorses you built?

      Use them all the time, they sit next to the sawmill currently and we use them to cut wood and materials with. Thinking of drawing up some plans so others can make their own variation as well. Would be a small cost, but trying to put something together.

      It’s called a pica pencil and you can order it from Amazon. I also explain how it works in a close-up in the video about middle way somewhere where I’m doing the giveaway if you want closer look.

      You might win this month! Ya never know. But you can get them on Amazon. We use the Pica Big Dry Marker for Construction (Graphite). It is basically a framing/carpenters pencil but with really nice lead and in a mechanical pencil style output. It is a little on the large side but you get used to it.
