  • Damz is half Igbo and half Ijaw but was born and raised in the UK. He talks about his efforts to speak Igbo and shares his experience as a teacher in the UK, especially regarding Igbo culture being left out of current trends.
Okwu Talks was an event where young Igbo people were invited to share their stories. At the event speakers gave insights into navigating different aspects of Igbo culture in the diaspora, and share their ideas and understandings with the audience.

If Igbo people were ashamed of their/our culture/identify, then platforms like this wouldn't exist. Everywhere Igbo people go, they have organizations and groups like this, whether it be USA, China, Japan, England. People who are ashamed of themselves, don't put so much effort to be around one another. Not learning our language has more to do with function. If an Igbo person moves to...Sweden, and has a child, in the Igbo persons mind, they feel, teaching their child a language they'll likely, never use, is pointless. That's why Igbo people in Igboland ALL speak their language.
