Wow, what a relief knowing all your hard work these past months have produced such a beautiful concept. You guys really did a great job on this epic project.
You guys are awesome. Just a suggestion to try. When your hands are sweaty and your trying to put on a new set of gloves and its hard because your hands are sweaty, start pulling on the nitrile gloves and when they stick because your hands are sweaty try pinching the cuff of the glove near the wrist while its on your hands and blow into the glove (make a seal), like your blowing up a balloon. The glove should slip on easier then.
Hope you’re going to fully wrap those uprights in several more layers of carbon fibre not just 1 layer in several pieces! There’s going the be so much loading going through those parts they need to be thick enough and the fibre laid continuously so as to be able transfer the loads.
Nice video,, I hope it al comes together and is exactly as you had dreamed. Jades measuring and geometry are amazing, best wishes and can’t wait to see it all together installed on the boat.
OMG! I am excited to see your final product installed. I think it is going to look fabulous! The color is magical! You are brilliant Jade and Brett too. I can't wait for the reveal. When will that be uploaded?
Not mocking just joking I know you guys worked really really really really really hard. Your boat has become a floating Honda civic with a carbon fiber spoiler with out the dodger lol.
🌴🌴🌴 I’m finally visualizing what you have been creating throughout all these videos. You guys are so awesome as a couple and to what you’re doing. (I think that made sense) Anyways…. Keep happy and healthy with all of your adventures. Blessings from Paso Robles, California, Carlos
Ship your parts to Gibraltar, no duty or tax for items for foreign yachts or better yet, befriend a US military member stationed in Spain and use their FBO mail box. I spent 30 years using both methods, never any problem.
Or just pay taxes like you should when you're benefitting from what society is providing. Tax dodgers/evaders make me sick with their egocentrical behaviour.
On an engineering note..A very large plate to spread the load under the deck and solid blocking inside the the uprights. Maybe some of that rudder stiffener foam for the uprights.
I was just thinking. It would be prudent to reinforce the area where you are going to bolt the rear arch to the deck. Using a plate there is a great idea bu adding another few layers of glass underneath going about 10 to 12 inches past where you are bolting that to. This will make sure the forces while you are sailing will not translate too far from the bolts and plates that reinforce the install.
Agreed, though i am sure they are on it already. With the old bimini, any failure would be in the stainless structure and not damage the hull. Now with the stronger than all carbon structure, the possibility of transfering forces enough to damage the hull is a bit greater. Project is very nice, congratulations.
I also think they need to beef up the actual base of the arch legs. There will be tremendous dynamic moment forces generated by the cantilever & length of these legs...and also twisting of the structure when fully loaded (as dinghy davits). In addition to reinforcement of the deck and providing sufficient backer plate, the base of the leg should have an integral laminated G10 block base to accept stress forces, prevent wearing & anchor bolt pullout....the carbon fiber base and its connection to the boat is the most critical detail of this build and must be engineered to min. 2.5 safety factor.
There is no triangulation so all the athwartship loading (side to side loads) will tear the bolts out of the uprights or out of the deck or both. It will need large backing plates both inside the upright & under the deck. Carbon fiber is good in tension but not in compression, as in the Titan submersible that failed. As the boat rocks side to side, athwartship loading puts one side of the arch in compression & the other in tension. It will probably be strong enough to lift the boat out of the water vertically, so hobby horsing or pitching will be fine. Yes, it looks very pretty but you seem to have overlooked the basic engineering, i.e. static loading vs dynamic loading. I hope I'm wrong but I think it will never handle the dynamic loading of a heavy dinghy with engine but will be fine for solar panels.
Agreed, strengthen the heck out of the uprights, box them fully for lateral loads. It wont be too much weight. Just my opinion, i havent built with fiberglass in 20 years. But call me nervous 😀 all my best, you guys rock.
I was thinking the same. I hope for you it will be strong enough but I doubt it. I've build a dinghy arch for my Catamaran from steel and I was kind of shocked how terrible it was. Even with additional support it wasn't very strong. I could lift the dinghy with a 25 hp engine but it was flexing way more then I expected. Even the solar panel on top were flexing with the weight from the dinghy
I agree totally. A very large plate to spread the load under the deck and solid blocking inside the the uprights. Maybe some of that rudder stiffener foam for the uprights.
I am chiming in to express my concerns for the strength of the legs, or at least their attachment. I’ve seen your videos when you’re in some rough waters or winds and I encourage you to give much attention to these stress points. ‘Looks great! …lots of hard work….just want to see it be able to stand up to the task. ( voice of a structural engineering for 35 yrs. ) 👍🏼🥰
Form vs Function....age old engineering dichotomy. I sure hope it functions as you imagine...but the form....the cool factor...... is going to be huge...........Sometimes it's better to look good than to feel good.....Best luck, it's nerve racking just watching the fitting.
Dear Jade 😻 , anybody who knows anything about Maple syrup knows the best in the world is from Canada - more specifically right here in Quebec ! and our closest rival is our dear friends in Vermont , the difference between the 2 syrups is thinner than a pancake 😹😸😹👍🙏

I am in Canada and watching your video made me decide to make pancakes with proper Canadian Maple Syrup!! :)
Me too.....and I'm in Los Angeles. Expedition Engineering videos have weird effect on people.
I love maple syrup.

LOOKING GREAT! Nice check-in, good luck at the shop.

So happy to you you both! Nice work.

Yup! 👍 🇺🇲
Yay it's great to be watching

im always so excited for every evans video 😅
Can't wait for the final install. ❤
Love it. Wish we saw the entire dodger!!!! Na looking forward to seeing final project and seeing yall out on the move again.

Lol! Maple syrup, just had some for breakfast here in Canada, it's cool up here today.
Thank you! 🧜♀️⛵🧜♂️

It’s about time!! 🙄
Looking good!
I congratulate you, you are both really impressive! Are you an engineer in fiber? lol😉
Digging the MCM shirt!
I found your boat on google earth street view and I think you were filming this episode when the camera car drove by.
Where did you guys go?????
Aún recuerdo vuestros duros principios reparando la estructura del barco.
Parece que aún estáis en Badalona ya sois unos vecinos más de la ciudad.
How much longer is this project going to take...lol..
Yay!!! 🎉🎉
I love your passerelle.
That looks promising already.
Good plan, I think, to push on with the build while the van-opportunity is there.👴👌

How is the strategic reserve these days?
how do you allow for lateral loading, are you going to cross brace the legs?
Hi Both. Can you tell me what setting you use for the time lapse on the inside footage on the vid. Thanks Guy
project first. geetteerr doooonnne.
CHOPPED!!
As the winch parts. It seemed to me Spanish Champagne was more expensive In Barcelona than in USA.
..always the last bolt, in the most difficult position, that is rusted solid.
Why aren't you doing this in your shop rental area?
What's an inch?
Looks good so far. Any reason it’s taking so long or just not working on it every day?
"Best Maple Syrup's from Canada"...bite cher tongue Lass!
They are Canada 🇨🇦 adjacent
looks good. What is the make of your hat? Also, is Alicia Vikander look alike (Aiyana) coming back sailing with you later?
