When Gangnam style same out, everyone watched it. Even my sister knew what it was and danced to the song. After a while I got into Kpop because of Bts in 2016-2017. Then I found out Gangnam style was Kpop and told my sister. She freaked out because she had no idea 😂 I know psy was a really big part of why Kpop is so big but I personally think 3 gen groups made it go a lot further 😊
I was wondering did you guys really know kpop because of Psy? In the Netherlands it also got played but still nobody ever heard of kpop or knew that he was a kpop artist. I agree everyone knew that song so it was really popular but i do disagree that he paved the way. I don't think he paved it for other artist to break trough in the west. Paved the way means ''to make it easier for someone to do something'' and I don't think he made it easier for other kpop artist after this. So personally I think it's the first and second gen who paved the way in Korea and BTS and Blackpink who paved the way in the west because only after them the world got to know kpop and a lot of other groups where able to go to the west. (but this is just my opinion)
in my opinion i believe people use psy to discredit bts and the impact they have. like it’s obvious that bts did open a door for groups who came after them and some of their peers as well. while people may have gotten into kpop because of psy, they did because of bts too. like so many people found out about kpop because of dna in 2017 😭
I am half agreeing with psy, sure he did help ofc but he was not the first one i heard. First time i heard kpop was Big bang. It was fantastic baby. It is a song that does not seem to really go to the us, but it truly became a really big hit for many european countries. I live in norway, liking kpop is still not very widespread, but fantastic baby was so huge when it released over here i have asked people i know if they remember the song and all of them had heard it from when it released and none of them are kpop fans at all. I do think psy might have done that push, but i do think the ones paving the way internationally was rather big bang etc. Good opinions though and i do agree with alot of them.
Yeah sure psy introduced us to kpop, but bts paved the way they made kpop more famous and known they helped so much people from depression Loving their self etc..., psy introduced us to kpop but bts paved the way they made kpop more popular.
Nope, paved the way means helped somebody, they helped millions of people who are suffering from depression made insirping songs etc.., they made kpop more popular.
I didnt feel bts paved the way because paved the way is a figurative language. It means making a way easier for people to come. BTS didn’t make anything easier they just made it harder for smaller groups and from smaller companies. People always think groups are flops and that they didn’t sell good cause everyone is comparing them to BTS. Unless someone outsells bts in the kpop world we can’t say they paved the way. And also music is art. We can’t compare art because their are different genres of art. If we compare a dark concept to a lighter concept we are comparing art. We are comparing two different styles of art. But what bts has done is broken records which is called being successful. Being successful does not mean paving the way. Being successful does mean breaking records, expanding kpop globally etc. I hope everyone understand that.
Its not bts fault they are the one who became famous they didnt even know that they will be famous one day and they dont even control their fame, they SUDDENLY became famous, i think Its not bts fault Its the toxic bts stans who always compare bts to smaller rookie groups but i have never seen a bts stan comparing bts to a smaller Group.
Paving the way means helping somebody in something, and they helped/made kpop more popular but psy introduced us to kpop, now pls stop fighting on who paved the way.

If anything psy made it hard for kpop to be taken seriously, in the west.
