    Thank you Beck! Loved it! Just like Van Gogh said- "If you hear a voice within you say 'you can not paint', then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced".
    Thank you again and by the way AWESOME piece of work you are working on!

      Beck Lane P.S. The photo isn't great - instead of using one of my photographers I took the pic myself using an old camera...never a good idea. The camera's distortion makes the boy's head looks kind of pumpkin shaped.........

    I love how open you are. I'm terrified of failure but you've encouraged me to push that down a little more and push forward in my self expression through art.

    • @becklaneartist
      @becklaneartist  8 років тому

      In my eyes Theresa (and I didn't say this in the video) NOT trying, not doing your best is a larger form of failure than trying and not reaching the preconceived version success..........but, when I don't reach my goals, for whatever reason or another, I have a totally different definition of failure - not so Zen-y-esque. Just let go Theresa - let go of what and how you should be painting and all the approval you think you need. Go BIG, be totally open, absolutely let go of EVERYTHING you [think] you know about what [think] you should be doing you'll find a freedom . It won't be easy be you'll find a freedom most people don't/can't/won't experience.

    • @MaireTreasa
      @MaireTreasa 8 років тому

      I'm going to do my very best to just LET GO!! I've been wound up so tight all of my life when it comes to art, so it may not be easy for me! Then again, it may be the easiest thing I've ever done! We'll see!! I've been chasing after the approval of others all of my life. In fact, I never even tried painting until a couple of years ago (I'm 47) even though I've been drawing all of my life. I never tried because I was so terrified to fail. This is the TRUE failure you mentioned above, so at least I'm past that now! :) My heart literally ACHES to express itself through art. I don't want to be another cookie cutter artist. I want to be ME! Thank you so much for your candid thoughts!

    I can tell you have a lot of passion for your work and that's all that matters. There is no right or wrong in art. People will either like it or not. You can't please everybody. I feel bad that those people hurt you with their critique. And curators are just people who wanted to be artist and didn't have a talented bone in their bodies. Jealous little bitches, trying to control artists lives. Thank you for this video because a lot of artists feel the fear and need to just push it aside. No fucks given is my motto. I paint for me.

      Hey Peter - I'm glad you found something in my chatter that could help you. I wish you the best & only the best of outcomes in your struggles. After having some pretty horrible things happen over the last few years, I almost gave up painting all together but....with the help and support of some people I love, things are turning around. Hang in there Peter - eventually, it'll all be okay.

      My secret: do not listen to anyone. Don't. Whether people are offering positive or negative input everyone is speaking from their own experiences and have reasons for opening their mouths. Do...not...listen. Stick to your own path.

      No apology needed, stay warm, a sick artist is a, well, bad thing. This is a problem with me, room temperature matters, if you haven’t gone into this maybe give some ideas on staying comfortable in your space, season to season. Playing guitar with gloves also can be a problem for me.

      @@-davidolivares Well, this video was made about 9 yrs ago - that space was beautifully lit but broiling hot in the summer & freeeeeezing cold in the winter. I've moved a bunch of times since then & am currently living in south west Florida. I miss that space but cold is no longer an issue.

    More on how inspiring, I cannot find it in me to kiss local ass. This doesn't work out for me, BUT, not shown in my local Gallery I am shown in others. "what the hell" to that clique that I had the courage to cut from my life. They disowned me after winning the first show I entered, "How can you say I go about things the wrong way." (the smiths)
    AND! I am branching out and will be in a show as a guest artist in a BIG city coming up soon. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

    The last thing I want to do is to pigeon-hole you or your art, but your art makes me think of what the love child of a Soviet graffiti artist and Vincent Van Gogh would likely do. And I mean this in the best, most complement-ing way. It's like punk-expressionism; I don't really know how to describe it, because it is ultimately it's own thing; the what-the-hell attitude really shows-and that's a GREAT thing. Think about Monet, particularly Impression Soleil Levant. He didn't think that little sketch needed anything else, so he said to hell with it and showed it anyway. And it has become one of the most recognized and beloved works on canvas the world over. Most people don't know what the hell the Night-Watch is, but you say Impression, Sunrise and people go "Oh, yeah. I love that painting." To use the punk parallel again, you mention Hawkwind and people go "Who?" but you say "Sex Pistols" and they go, "Sid Vicious, man, hell yeah." It is the carefree, libertine, fuck it I will do what I want and if I am not appreciated for my literature/art/music/poetry/whatever, then what the hell, I've had fun nonetheless. That is the true artistic spirit. Bob Ross hit a home run when he said; "It's your world, you paint it how you see it and don't let anyone else tell you how to do it."
