Icon Stormhawk motorcycle boot review

- The Icon Stormhawk is basically a copy of the Klim Outlander. The Outlander is a heck of a boot. It’s a boot that straddles the worlds of hiking and biking; what one of our wittier customers has called a 'Motohiking' boot. It's as tough a short boot as you'll ever come across. It has protectors where you need them, a super-strong toe cap, and a shank in the sole. Waterproofing comes courtesy of Gore-Tex. But arguably its standout feature is its BOA lacing system.
The Klim and the Icon look pretty similar, but there's quite a difference between them as far as the detail is concerned. Let us explain.
The Outlander is, in our view, technically a better boot. It has built into its construction the best of everything. Gore-Tex, XRD padding, Nestfit, a genuine BOA lacing system, a tough shank in the sole, and so on. It’s probably more than most of us we will ever need. But that's just the Klim way. And because it’s Klim, it does not come cheap. It costs £320.
The Icon boot is, in truth, perhaps not quite so rugged, but it’s rugged enough, and it still has a very impressive spec.. The upper of the boot is fashioned from a waterproof treated leather. The waterproof membrane itself comes from eVent; it's a membrane that is highly regarded in the outdoor and mountaineering world. There are reinforcements in the toe and heel for extra protection. The ankles have D3O pads in them. The lacing system is exactly the same as the one in the Klim boot. There are nibs for the gear change, and you get a rubber overlay at the end of the toe. As with the Klim boot, you get a small reflector on the heel. The sole is pretty rugged. There’s a padded shaft for comfort, and you get a couple of useful loop pulls to help you get the boot on.
The Stormhawk is a very impressive boot. It is superbly comfortable. It’s clearly very protective. The BOA lacing makes it a breeze to put on and take off. Nobody is going to be disappointed by the Stormhawk. Yes, the Klim outdoes it in some respects, but very few us us will ever need what the Klim has that the Icon doesn't have.
But the big difference is price. The Klim is more than half as much again as the Icon. The Stormhawk costs £192.99, compared to the Klim’s £320. Is the Klim a better boot? Almost certainly. Is it, though, worth more than a hundred pounds more? That's not for us to decide.
We love what Klim does. We think their gear is brilliant. We enjoy wearing it, we enjoy riding in it, and we like what the brand stands for. Our heart might make a case for the Klim Outlander, but if one were prepared to let one's head rule one's heart you'd have to go give serious consideration to the Icon boot.

Thank you so much for making these videos! You do them as well or better than anyone else out there.
Excellent review, spot on choice on comparison, was literally looking at both those boots when I came across your video!
Me too. Which ones did you get ??
This is the exact comparison I was wondering about. Great review!
I have the Klim outlanders and it's an amazing boot...
I think these Icon boots look better than the Klim ones. I'd rather like a pair of these Icons. Great price.
I may be visiting the UK in October. Do you have a physical store?

Soak em in water and tell us how long it takes to dry. Very important.
I can’t see that this would help anyone and impossible to control all the variables anyway.
Klim looks a much better boot
