I wore mine for the first time on Sunday. I fell in some deep sand and my foot was pinned under the exhaust pipe. The boot kept the pipe from digging into my foot. It took a minute for my buddy to get the bike off of me and I could smell the leather burning. My foot was fine and the heat never reached my skin. Even after being burned a little they are in great shape.
I run these riding my 300 two stroke every weekend and just got back from a 2160 mile adventure trip, 1000 plus off it road. They are great so far. I do s itch guard them every couple months. They are 2.5 years old. A yes vote from me!
Finally a good review!!!! I just want some protection and not have to lift my whole leg to shift I’m just not used to that . These seem like good flex and fine protection
One of the best boot reviews I have ever seen. Great format and you hit most of the information I wanted to hear. The only thing missing is maybe what get shapes they fit. For example, I have really wide feet so I am always interested in how boots fit wide feet.
They fit wide feet really well. I wear Euro 49, UK 13. fit like a glove. Managed to hit a warthog at 120 kph and broke my big toe properly on day 3 of 43. Slipped the boots on everyday and carried on in comfort through rain, dirt or shine. This is the benchmark boot for doing African terrain.
I have worn my forma low boots for the last 3 years . Never leaked and really comfortable and we get plenty of rain in uk .
+1 for the low option
I have mine for 10000 miles happy riding. They are great but not for off-road.
@@r13gbs Im torn between the low and tall, not for off road. but thinking about shin protection
@@misterchuck6866 So, how did it turn out?
@@flyingjeff1984 got forma trials boots. not bad, not great
There's a little more rigid choice with forma the Evo Terra, maybe take a look at those for your future purchase...
Thanks for the awesome reviews Tim
Cheers from Morocco
280$ is still way cheap than any over priced Revit boots which usually go for 700$ and up (ridiculous).
1:52 pretty much speaks for itself. These have zero protection from an ankle break and I’ve heard from a seasoned ADV off-road instructor that every ankle break he’d seen was from riders wearing these boots.
People love these because of comfort and relative price comparison. Just make sure you’re willing to accept the risk.
I personally opt for the Sidi Adventure boots. They’re the most expensive pair of footwear I’ve ever bought, but you truly get what you pay for. They’re also very comfortable for the incredible level of protection they offer. Again, it’s your risk; they’re your ankles.
Use Shoe Goo on the stitching part, it will fix that separation for sure, then scotch Guard and you are set
Great detailed/thorough review Tim! I'm in the market for my first Adv boot and this is my #1 pick. I'll be doing 70% on-road and comfort is near the top of my list. Please send me a discount code if you have one:)
They have been on my list to buy. This video put me over the top...I'm getting them! Thanks.
My foot is 29 cm long. Should i go for 45 or 46 in size?
Tim did you just go through Northern Utah today?
I've had these for like two years and I expect them to last another 4 at least
This is the type of review I've been looking for. Truly tested and under a real load review. Thanks!
Nice to see you more regularly Tim. Typical great review.
I want to try this. I am size us 9.5. Will i buy euro 42 or 43?
I’m from South Africa and have the half boot version. I agree with your comments. Excellent boot and comfortable from day 1
Thanks. Just ordered the hdry version.Like your channel! you're cool👊🏻🤘🏻
Hey Tim, great review. I actually have these boots as well. They were great for my xr650l but for anything heavier like my t7 It's dangerous. I admit I loved these boots for the past 9months however I was riding down a fire road on my t7 and seen something jump in the bushes out of the corner of my eye and in that split second I had my eye off the road I hit the only rock in the road lol. It knocked me into a soft patch of dirt and I washed out And broke my leg pretty bad. I was on a solo overnighter. I had to learn my lesson with these boots the hard way. I guess what I'm trying to get at Is you can have an accident anywhere whether it be An object or gravel on the Pavement, a car or animal jumping out in front of you or a simple wash out on a fire road. Although these boots look nice and are comfortable to walk around in and hang out in. When it comes down to it They are dangerous because they don't have the ankle protection and shin protection you need. I will continue to use these boots for my lighter weight bikesAs I feel they have enough protection for my 250R, And maybe my XR650L. But I am back in the market for a better protected boot. I'm looking into the Gaerne SG-10 or the Gaerne Dakar as they are another like the forma but with more anke support and protection. One I make it out of bed I'm going boot shopping lol. Bed sores hurt more than broken leg.
Thanks for the good reviews you do.
Cheers
The Gaerne Dakar are amazing but slightly narrower than these Forma. If you have wide feet, the Dakar are not for you. Otherwise they're excellent
I bought them last year after I’ve seen your review. Great boots, thanks for advice, Sir!
Great review Tim, thanx!
What do you think about sizing? I read that its adviced to order one size up?
Legit review 👍 40k, that’s a solid amount of time, love your channel
Awesome boots! I have the both the tall and the short and you description of their use, value, etc is spot on! Ride safe!
Great review tim, glad to see you back! I Have the low boot and wear them many days while I’m working, not riding. During the snow and ice they gave me great traction, waterproof, and support. Twisted a ankle and couldn’t walk in hiking boots. That’s when I first realized these were great for everyday work and hiking boots. I ride 85% pavement and the low boots are fine for me. Off road I stick to dirt gravel roads and they perform well. Two years of content wear and they are still holding together. Velcro material for closure on top was pulling away from the leather and I glued it back into place with Elmers glue.
Oh my goodness:-) So great to see you back in the saddle. I got the Forma boot that is the step down from those... getting the adventure next. I’m planning a trip around the northern hemisphere & it appears these will do the job :-)
I wear the women's version and I love them.
I love my Formas. Great review. Spot on
Ordered them today. Black version. Thank you for the review.
Great choice
@@foodwarrior449 Thank you.
can somebody compare this with alpine star corozal in 2024?
No, I'm on my third pair of Italian-made pull-on Cofra Thermic protective boots.
Standard wear in Eastern Europe motorcycling and heavy industry. $125 a pair
shipped out of NY State. Multiple colors. Warm in cold weather. I ride dual sport. .
I have the low adventure boots. I love them. I have worn them walking in the snow and my feet remained completely dry. The worst thing is how warm they can get in the Texas summer.
Hi Tim, I have used them as snow boots, too! Great traction for our Colorado snow. ;)
Get your self some motorcycle summer socks.
You know you're an adventure rider when someone mentions "hangin' out at a gas station" and you know exactly what they're talking about. Glad you're back, Tim!
I wish I could post a pi ture of the xrays of my right foot after getting it caught, pinned under my Vstrom 650 last summer, wearing my Forma boots. I fell down riding off road in softball size rocks.
The sole of the boot completely folded, with my foot inside. Result: every tarsal bone was crushed, including the large bone of the big toe. It took 2 hours of surgery to put it back together, with 12 screws, titanium plate, bone graft, and three K-wires. 2 months immobilized and over a year of recovery.
I’m now in the market for a boot with a much, much stiffer sole. I’m looking at the Sidi Goretex Adventure boot.
Wish for a 4E size, I would have the high and low versions.
Another greate video, just a note, the amazon link did not work for me.
Love my Forma boots! Like you say... comfortable out of the box.
I have them. They are okay, but I don't think they are worth the money.
Bottom line, much like all soft boots, they are just a security blanket. The will not stop any actual crush or break injuries. Will they reduce the chance of injury from sticks and rock hits? Yes. Will they stop an injury from the bike landing on your leg or an ankle over-flex injury? Absolutely not.
Generally speaking, comfort = less protection.
Also, no excuse for a $280 boot falling apart. I spent 22 years in the Army. Any boot lasting less than a year is considered garbage.
This is a nice video.
I agree brown is better even for black pants.
I can confirm the Forma Adventure Boots are complete garbage and no more than a novelty work boot. Yes they are "comfortable" but honestly that's irrelevant for motorcycling gear. I broke my foot in 3 places wearing these boots after I went down when a girl cut me off in a roundabout going about 15-20 mph. These boots offer little to no protection either on pavement or off road. Avoid these at all costs and just go for a full MX style boot that actually protects you and save yourself a broken ankle or foot...
I have enjoyed mine for about a year/3000 miles. I did have an issue with my footpeg sticking me just above the sole. If I had aftermarket/larger footpegs, my foot likely would not have slid off of the footpeg.
I agree with the review and comfort levels but to those comparing these to other boots cost or protection the mfg themselves notes>>>>>
*Due to the special lightweight sole design, these boots are not recommended for use offroad, or with kick-start bikes or bikes with aggressive motocross style foot-pegs. They are designed for paved and unpaved road touring and have limited offroad protection. If you are a rider that mostly stands up when you ride, we recommend the Forma Terra Evo X boots.
Thanks for confirming my purchase in December!
I’ve been using the BMW Winter/Summer boots and they have been comfortable off the bike and (I assume) protective on the bike (never tested Thank God!) but the soles do tend to peel away after a couple of years… the glue simply melts and re-gluing becomes less and less effective… like dieting!
Tim...You are a fan of geology I heard. Did you know KS is the most diverse geological state in the country? It's got like 5 or 6 different beautiful regions. I can't ride till Oct, legally, but it would be cool to ride with someone like you, I likely not get pulled over riding with such a calm spirit, but I like to be legal these days. I got a DUI with a broken foot right after surgery on my dream bike two months after I bought it. Haven't been able to ride or even take one trip to I"m itching. Well, a GS is my dream bike, but RT it works just fine unless you're on backcountry roads.
I have these boots in both the tall and low versions and agree with all your points. The only issue I had with them was on very hot humid days where I was doing a lot of work picking up the bike and sweating hard...the boots literally became water filled buckets from my sweat...waterproof, and not very breathable. I literally poured out a quarter pint or more of liquid sweat out of each boot when I took them off and they squelched all day and the next as a result.
Squelched?
@robertg2397 yes...as in the sucking "squelching" sound they made when you walked on them due to the linings being still soaked with moisture....very unpleasant feeling and sound
Excellent review mate - tried them on today and a great fit..... that along with your review has me committed to purchase - Many thanks - Tony (Australia)
Have you considered taking them to a cobbler and see if they can extend the life? Especially on the stitching? A lot cheaper than buying new boots.
Ugh, gotta disagree. Broke my fibula in those on gravel, stay with MX boots off pavement. Comfortable but a pavement boot, crap lateral support. The right MX boots are comfortable once broke in.
Thanks, I bought these boots based on your previous recommendation. They’ve been great for riding my GS, but a little clunky for a sport bike (like my Interceptor).
This was the first model I noticed at REvzilla. Thanks for the review! What are you doing riding up a creek bed?? lol!
How was the fit as far as number? I want to order these boots but I don't know which size to get and where I live makes it very difficult to do exchanges. Normally I order dress shoes, sneakers, hiking boots in a US10 Would you recommend getting a size larger or do they run true to size?
No mention on comfort when grocery shopping! 🤣 Great review and I know you've "lived in them"! I condition my boots with Obenauf's. Great stuff!
I just bought a pair of Sidi Adventure 2 boots. They offer far greater protection than the Forma boots you show, to the extent that I would class the Forma's to be a more general purpose riding boot than a good adventure boot. My old leather boots game me no protection from cold or wet, no impact protection or support for ankles, and minimal padding for the shin compared to my new boots that offer superb protection all round, and provide rigid protection over the instep and ankles along with toe and heel protection. The Sidi's are possibly the best adventure boots available today. It would be great if you could test and review a pair in comparison with your old Forma boots.
Wish I had these my dumbass forgot to wear boots and my bike fell on my ankle fractured and ligament damage thank god I’m healing, and seeing these boots I’m sold I’m buying these
Hey Tim, would you recommend these for my kind of riding? I'm actually in the market for new boots and was thinking about the short pair you mentioned.
Great review sir. Thank you 😊
I just ordered a pair and waiting on them to arrive.
You definitely sold a pair of boots for Forma.
Do these boots help prevent your foot from sliding forward? I recently jammed my toe into the front of my boot while sliding on ice and gravel and ended up with black toe. It looks like the buckle closures would stop that.
Forma is my absolute favorite brand out there. I have the Cape Horns and have worn them almost everyday over the last year. Thanks for the review!
Thanks Tim, I'm shopping for my next set of boots. Your video was very informative.
Eric
I have it.. but after 3 years, the strap broken....
The pad on the left is also torn out (due to motor cycle gear shifting).
Trying to find straps replacement...
Don't you find the shin protection a bit flimsy? I have tougher protection in some summer boots. That's the only thing which is putting me off these boots.
What about sizing? Are they true to size? What’s your foot size and which size fits you with forma adv?
Mate, lol I had the Tucans before and switched to these boots. Only had the new boots for a few weeks, so far all good but haven’t done any foot exploring... their a lot lighter than the Tucans and definitely cooler in hot climates (Australia). Neat review Tim. Safe riding. @blackdogmototravels
Thanks, you just sold a pair for a 77 year old adventure trail rider👍🇺🇸
Tim have you ever considered starting a BitTube channel? It would be an extra way to earn money. You can earn money basically from day 1 there as well
I have the Forma touring boots. Not nearly as rugged as yours, and not great for hiking. I ride off-road very little but I like those boots.
Love my forma adv boots. It's one of the few out there that's good for peeps with wide feet. Great review!
I have Forma lower version for 10000miles. Love those boots but Adv boots in general are not good for off-road. They will protect you if you fall and slide but if the bike falls on foot most likely you are going to end up with broken ankle. No lateral support on Adv boots.
all the soles fall off. Absolutlety PISS POOR glue from factory. Thats the next topic, any good boot should have stiching. Get your glue ready. 2 our of 5 for safety, at best.
As far as protection goes though man, the fact that they soften is no beuno. I have formo's but not again when they are done.
Great review, brother! I hope you're well, happy weekend! 😊✌
Went with your review and ordered some
You can't really crash on gs1200 off road, they just lean 45 degrees and rest on a cylinder cover bar.... just saying hehe
I have owned these boots for a year and have had to repair them already. The sole started to come apart (glued together rather than stitched). Just be aware you may want to bring some shoe glue in case you have a blow out like I did!
All glue on soles will eventually fail by delaminating where the rubber meets the leather... Forma makes a sew on sole that will last longer.
I have these in black, great pair of boots
Mine are about the same age as yours but with a lot less use. Still waterproof and great to walk around in. As you say they are not full off road but for most GS riders nor are we. Padding around the top of one has started to break up but still good to wear. Is two years good before they start to break down acceptable ? Overall for the price good
Tim great review as always. I was really considering these particular boots but ultimately, I decided on that the increased protection offered by an MX boot is worth it. I went with the O'neil Element and while they are not meant for walking around camp, they provide great protection against twisting and crushing which was my priority. I am so glad to see you making videos again. I hope all is well.
Thank you
Nathan
I had one. Only lasted for two years. Soles can't handle the wet weather here in the Philippines.
The review is spot on! I have had these boots for over a year.I started with dual sport riding , but switched mainly to enduro style riding, roots, rocks, mud ,and sand trails, in New England. They have taken a beating (thanks to me). And have held up very well and have given satisfactory protection from falls and object strikes. Not a full motocross boot, but they are comfortable and break in quickly. I hiked Mt. Monadnock NH. in them. A steep trail(white dot), and was surprised at how well they did, although a bit heavy for that task. I would recommend these.
My two cents:
These are the first adventure boots I have bought, got them last year for the CDT. Put 900 trail miles and 1750 road miles on them.
Pro: The comfort and fit, especially for my wide feet is great right out of the box, look great and I really like these boots.
Con: The lateral ankle support is lacking for me. Tweaked my ankle in a minor washout in the sand and then severely sprained it a few days later in a hard fall and had to abort the ride. I am not anxious to repeat the months of recovery.
I am currently looking for a boot with more ankle protection without giving up too much off bike comfort. I will continue to enjoy these boots for less demanding riding.
I bought the lower version and really like the boots. I’ve dropped my bike on my right foot in a parking lot and they protected me well.
This is an excellent and extremely thorough review. Great job! Thanks for creating it.
I have the same boots - they’re something else very comfortable - and warm!
These are also better if you’ve got wider feet, a lot of the other boots don’t come in a white option and can be really narrow.
Thank you for your review. It was honest & well presented. I bought a pair of these boots a year ago and I do agree width you. They are well worth it considering all five parameters you mentioned.
Great video, very informative! Thanks
Do you ever wish you were on a smaller bike? If so what bike?
Great boot, I have terrible feet, bunions and I can wear them all day and walking is good too
Tim I’ve been looking at them for over Two years after your Long term review I’m pulling the trigger. Thanks again for all your advice I use it on every ride.
Glad you like them, since I picked up some of the short ones last year. I love them so far.
I’m thinking about buying these. Just got a tiger 1200 so need some good boots to go with it.
Great review - Thanks ! I am ordering a pair :-)
I have the shorter boot and agree withthe the value for money
Those are my boots too and I love them.
Love mine ! thanks to you Tim
Thank you for your review, just bought a pair.
Super glue the seams… bulletproof!
Great review. Love your channel!
