Rules I set for myself a few years ago on minimalism and easy living : I no longer have any clear glass top tables or shelving I don't do open shelving. I don't do or use books for decorative statements I don't keep any figurines out unless it's for seasonal holidays. Decor that is put away after it's season is over I have hooks in my bedroom for daytime clothes that I wear around the house that I can wear for multiple days in a row that don't go straight in the wash and that has helped a lot I've also thrown out laundry baskets. No more laundry baskets allowed in the house. Everything goes straight into the wash and when it gets full I run a load. Doing it that way makes it feel like there is an end to your laundry 🤓
List for myself haha: 1. Clean out your fridge. 2. Make sure every item in your kitchen has an easy-to-access home. 3. Do a deep declutter of the worst closet space you own. 4. Simplify your nightstand if you have one. 5. Do a quick scan of the place you spend a lot of time, and eliminate five clutter objects from that space.
I don't think it even matters what you're talking about, your voice is so calm and soothing... the perfect start to my mornings. The wonderful content is just icing on the cake ❤
a fridge tip: i use matching placemats on each shelf and to line the veggie/ produce drawers. it's not a deep clean, but it's really easy to pull and wash a placement. and it looks tidy all the time
Yeah, I put a dish towel in each produce drawer so I can everything out of the reusable bags and it’s an easy clean up of any loose bits that fall off the produce.

I grew up in a home with a "gross refrigerator". As an adult, I take so much enjoyment out of keeping my refrigerator sparkling clean. Every week before the grocery shop, I clean my fridge. I won't put fresh food into a dirty fridge.
One thing I did is I made a rule that no picture frame or art would ever touch a dresser or table ever again in my life. It has made dusting so much easier. It has made my space bigger. It has taken stress off of me and I've put things throughout the house on my walls but still leave a lot of blank walls in each room so that one piece of art or mirror gets its attention. But the rest of the house looks super clean, wide, big and clear 🥰
I love that corner. Now that you've cleared up a couple of those art pieces, it just looks tranquil, clean, easy to clean, and the mirror stands out more than ever now 🤓🥰
It is so true about eliminating items in an area where you spend a lot of time. I did this in both my bedroom and home office and they are now my favorite rooms in the house. I decluttered my nightstand to have a pair of potted plants on it and nothing more. It was the best decision to wake up to greenery. I even got rid of the lamp and just strung amber string lights through the headboard for a more relaxed atmosphere.
I would remove the leaning picture frame you have when you walk in from your front door. That's blocking part of the window. You're going to see that also open up as well. It took me 2 years to go through my entire space on corners and spaces. I did not think needed clearing but actually did 🥰
I have several of those wheeled compartment trays in my refrigerator that make it easy to reach the things that used to huddle forgotten and forlorn at the back. The compartments also limit how much I can shove into the fridge. Might not work for large families, but after the kiddos all flew from the nest I was able to trim a LOT of excess from my home and am still working on paring down. One of the habits we all probably have is to keep things on display so long that we don't even see them anymore. If you become blind to your own possessions it helps to take a photo of a room or section of a room. The clutter really jumps out and helps us see with new eyes what we can let go.
Im really big on marking condiment and perishable items in the refrigerator for the date they are opened. Its really easy to monitor and not keep old expired stuff.
I'm going to live alone soon as my boyfriend needs sheltered housing due to his disability. I've already decluttered alot. So as he moves his stuff out I'm going to put things away in the empty cupboards and get rid of what I don't have space for. So that my home is less cluttered. It will mean going through a lot of stuff again but I'm ok with that and it will take time as he slowly moves his stuff out. But I'm ok with that.
Great ideas, I’ve been wanting to move into minimalistic living but I’m sooo far from it☹️ this will help me get going and once we look more minimal, and more peaceful in some areas it should motivate me (we?)to even attack the hidden messes.
Don't feel like you are so far from minimalism. Start with a one item per day challenge. By taking your time you won't overwhelm yourself and make the mistake of discarding things that you may want to keep. I started my journey five years ago and I paced myself. Now I'm clutter free and very pleased with the results.
You're so right about the fridge It was a game changer for me And what you said about using cabinets as something we interact with as opposed to something we stuff things in ❤❤❤ I've done this in all our closets and drawers. It seems like less of a task to put things away when everything fits nicely and effortlessly
This was inspiring! The general idea of prioritizing TLC for the spaces we use and/or see most often has made such a difference for me. My house got to borderline hoarder levels due to health issues and depression, and having oases of calm and beauty in my direct eye line from where I spend the most time has given me peace and encouragement as I dig myself out. Now I'm craving a clean and clear fridge! ; - D
Thanks for your ideas and encouragement! I am struggling to keep my momentum going after an initial declutter. I’m going to clean out my fridge right now, and I want you to know that you are making a difference in my life!
Such good inspiration and great ideas for anyone regardless of life style or age! I think I will tackle the mess that has been developing on and around our living room table today. It will make a huge difference 😊
Wow, Elin! These tips are so wonderful. I love the simplicity of all these tips but what a difference my space feels once they are organized. Thank you for another great video. Would love to see a video of outfits you create. Love your simple but classic style.
You've inspired me to clean out my fridge today! As for the catch-all closet in my den, that's going to take some emotional fortitude. I keep many sentimental objects in there which will be difficult to part with.
Thank you sooooooo much. Your energy is like a mental declutter. Since I started watching you I have saved heaps of money and decluttered in little medium and big ways! Merci!
A missionary told me, that if you have more than your trunk will hold minus your furniture...you have too much. I have applied this principle to my life in multiple ways
this channel feels like a sanctuary, rn while the world is on fire

Do you wash kitchen towels with clothes?

I think a gold frame or gold mirror above your fireplace would make it such a warm, cozy minimalist but decorative statement 🥰
Honestly owning less is the key

To buy only week stuff, and give a quick clean wipe before putting new stuff helps with kitchen

I want to look like a minimalist as a hoarder 😅
