This led to JJ Oliver being brought in as the new SPD Green Ranger, but with one thing making him stand out from the other rangers, that being that he has his dad’s Dragon Shield. Also, there were plans for an SPD Sequel Comic called SPD Fire Squad, which would have involved a special team of Red Rangers, consisting of Bridge as the Red SPD Ranger, Sky as the SPD Deka Ranger, and Jack returning to SPD as SPD Ranger Prime, which is basically the Red SPD Ranger suit with the colours inverted. +TheWolfboy007 I noticed it. But, I remember that actor a lot more as that one soccer guy who picked on Ethan in the Dino Thunder episode, "Bully for Ethan".
Xaviergray87 i find funny that you remember him more as a one shot character when he was a ranger and a main cast member a few seasons later also his name was derrik just saying.
power rangers123 Thank you. And yes, it is rather funny that I remembered this actor more as a one-shot character than as a main character and a ranger. But, I actually do prefer this actor to be more of an arrogant character than as a hero character in my opinion. Kinda like how I actually prefer Holly Shannon (Leelee Pimvare from Mystic Force) more as an anti-heroine/villain, namely....Camille from Jungle Fury than her being a whiny, spoiled, annoying, pointless bratty daughter of a Vampire Queen. At least when she was Camille, she actually did grow a lot more as a real character in that season.
I also felt they could have made Boom as the Green Ranger at the end when Sky was promoted to Red, Bridge promoted to Blue, so the Green Ranger spot is vacant.
I remember getting out of the military and going back home. My little brother loved SPD. I would watch it with him. It quickly became my favorite of all the series. Such a good time and good memories with this one.
The whole "girls can't be red rangers because of the sentai footage" thing really makes no sense because half of the yellow rangers were originally male with the bulky male costumes, and yet the American versions still put women into the roles while still maintaining the male yellow costumes.
imdb88 Well actually SPD's Super Sentai counterpart DekaRanger did in fact have two women for both Pink and Yellow. So the female discrimination Sky had in the show was never a matter of stock footage. Though while we've had the one extra female Red Ranger in Samurai/Shinkenger, they have yet to have an entire new series in Sentai where the team is lead by a female Red Ranger for the entire show.
I really like this series. I found the Ranger outfits to be pretty neat in terms of design, and the whole aspect of A Squad going bad was nice. Especially if one considers that the previously 'bad' Rangers were always brainwashed. It was a nice change.
0:54 Maybe that impersonation of Tommy will be useful whenever the Abaranger 20th gets adapted. Plus It's just like Dino Thunder, he only appears morphed for a good chunk of it! R.I.P. Jason David Frank
They should've made Boom the new blue ranger once Sky became the red ranger. That would have been a cool little nod while they met Jack at the very end.
Damn it. I started watching through the entire history of power rangers series and now that I'm trying to watch it all,SPD is taken out. The one series I grew up with and remember the most.
I loved the idea of putting their enemies into containment cards. It made the show seem less violent to parents, and provided a way to get a little $$$ from the kids. I also LOVE Crougar and Grumm. Crougar while a badass, shows his true power when he one shots all of Mora's monster while matrix walking towards her and in the end gives a nice one liner. Grumm also felt awesome. He was very reminiscent of Zedd, except he whined his ass off less than Zedd. He also had history with the Rangers newest Mentor. But something I loved design wise of Grumm, was the fact that even though he hat these pig red cartoony eyes, if you looked closer you could see a pair of Human eyes. I don't know why this makes me like him more, and makes him a bit more scary, maybe because he's closer to a human than we thought or the feeling that it has some sort of symbolism, but I just love the choice in his design. But even with all his badassery he could not beat Doggie Crougar.
Surprised they didn't get JDF to voice over as Tommy since he already did that in Dino Thunder for a few episodes when Tommy got stuck in his ranger form.
You know Boom is one of the many reasons that SPD is my favorite season of Power Rangers. The misfits becoming heroes is as many will no daught tell me in replies has become if not an out right cliche, is at the very least a trope that has been over done but I DON'T CARE!!!! This is the type of hero team I love (that statement is not directed at Linkara). Cruger is my favorite Ranger for the season and my favorite mentor of the overall series as he reminds me of guys like Mr. Miyagi, or J'onn J'onzz touched by great tragedy yet having true wisdom and experience.
Boom's "I'm Staying" speech is one of the best moments in the history of Power Rangers, right up there with Bulk and Skull's "We are the Power Rangers."
I believe in SPD timeline Carter Grayson was employed by SPD to train cadets and one of the cadets he trained was Cruger. No other logical explanation for Shadow Ranger badassness. Also, I always loved how easy it would be for producers to just reedit Sentai with their Doggie appearance, yet they decided to remake his look for the show to make it look cool, not childish.

Bardo Fett considering how much screentime they gave to A squad's members, I don't think that it really mattered if he was mute. plus, if he would've head dialoge, it would've probably been something about how B squad sucks...
it may be the first time a girl is red but not the first they were in the leadership position. delphine from alien rangers was the white ranger and in charge and although they may have only been stand ins Jen from time force and Taylor (I think that's her name) from wild force were leaders also.
Is it odd that Bridge reminds me of Ed from Ed Edd n Eddy, he pretty much does act simliar to Ed (except Bridge isn't dumb and is just quirky), but Bridge does kind of resemble Ed in a way, plus his love for butter just screams "butter toast" for Ed, in a way, Bridge is like the power ranger counterpart to Ed and this is probably how Ed would be like if he was a power ranger, kind of cool to think about, don't you think?
I remembered the Janitor-like Guy doing the Inspirational "Grum,Bring it on" Speech! To me,His COURAGE And Huge Heart would`ve made him Worthy of being a Power Ranger! Anyone Agree?
I really enjoyed SPD. I stopped watching with Zeo as a kid and then I came back when I saw Tommy in Dino Thunder. But when I watched SPD it was even better. I know some fans don't like this show as much (which kind of boggles my mind) but I think it was great. I plan on watching RPM one of these days because it looks good too but this is the best of what I've seen so far in my opinion. SPD was not just good for Power Rangers but it's a legitimately very good for a kids' show. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.
+Hezekiah Ramirez Thank you!!! I'm so glad that I'm not the only one here who actually liked SPD as a standalone Power Rangers season. Plus, the characters of SPD are actually enjoyable to watch and they're so much better than their Sentai counterparts, the Dekarangers, in my opinion.
***** Exactly!!!! I mean, seriously....this series is still awesome and it deserves a lot more love from the fans any other season would, despite the number of flaws that it has. So what if it's the first to have the over-usage of those "Kalish-splosions", or if the team-up episodes between the SPD B-Squad and the Dino Thunder wasn't the best?! Big deal!!! What matters to me and possibly other fans who liked this season, regardless is the story, the character developments and the chemistry between the cast.
Xaviergray87 precisely. Yeah, the Dino Thunder team up wasn't the best. Part of my problem with Ranger crossovers is that stuff kind of just happens because the plot needs it to happen. It would have made sense to do a Time Force team up with SPD, even if Wes isn't Sky's dad. Sure, it would break the tradition of having a team from a previous season team up with the Rangers for the current season but it would've made more sense since they're both about the future. But yeah, making a future cop version of the Power Rangers was actually quite brilliant. It almost felt like a James Cameron film. The characters were fantastic. Yes, some of them could be arrogant at points but you could always understand where they were coming from when they were. Jack was a perfect red Ranger. The best part about his character is they didn't go for the "underdog becomes the greatest hero ever" cliche. It was more of "fine, I'll get the job done but then I play by my own rules". Also, I liked his relationship with Z. Even though they're friends & are both poor, but both want different things. Also, is it just me or does Z's necklace resemble the Z on Lord Zedd? I also loved Sky & Jack's rivalry. Sky longs to be the red ranger, yet he isn't, Jack doesn't want to be the red ranger but is. The best part was how relatable it was. In just about every Power Rangers season before this (except for maybe Time Force but a lot about the process of picking who gets to be a Ranger isn't really well explained) a bunch of kids who are simply better than anybody else get to be the chosen few to fight a war against some super natural being. Our heroes are usually six (sometimes 5, sometimes even 3) out of 7 billion people in the world to become Power Rangers. But in SPD, training to become a Ranger is as simple as training to join the marines. It really did a great job of establishing what it's like to want feel important in the world.
+Spectacular Spider-Man I know, right?!?!??! I mean, in my eyes....Jack is like the ultimate "anti-hero" character. Hell, even one of the best anti-heroes in Power Rangers history next to the Magna Defender (I), Eric Meyers/The Quantum Ranger, even freaking Camille from Jungle Fury is considered to be an anti-heroine and she was a villain character. *Camille!!!!* Oh and BTW, yes, the "Z" on Z's necklace does look a lot like the "Z" on Lord Zedd's staff. Probably a good Easter egg nod to season 2 to in Space. I'm just sayin'!!
Well, according to Matt Austin (Bridge) during a SPD 10 Year Reunion Q&A Panel, he did stated that Boom and Sophie were later added to the B-Squad as the new green and blue rangers. So, that's good news.
pokehunterhd In an imnterview with Matt Austin, he was asked who would be on his team after he became the Red Ranger. He stated that he considers that after Bridge was promoted to Red Ranger, S.O.P.H.I.E became the Blue Ranger.[1] This has since been proven to be false, as Lina Song becomes the Blue Ranger when Bridge gets promoted.
What if piggy was the true villain cause he is playing all 3 sides. He kept the rangers cause he's trying to get rid of the competition without revealing himself.
The stories and arcs in SPD are very well written. Not as thoughtful as time force, but more along the lines of Dink Thunder or Wild Force. Where I think the season turns off viewers are the explosions (of course), but also the acting of less serious moments. During those moments I reminded that these people are acting for a kid’s audience
How weird would it be if Mentor Ji was somehow Grimm in disguise. Yes I know they're played by the same actor, but I find it weird that both characters were on Earth and drove a motorcycle
I really wished they made the A-squad pretending to be good a little bit more like showing off their talents and experience to make the B-squad really feel like B-squad
Are you serious?! You mean to tell me that you didn't even bothered to do your own damn research and look up the actor's name, Dwayne Cameron?! Of course, both Drew and Tyzonne look the same because they are both played by the same actor. Power Rangers, most particularly, the Disney-era has been known for re-using note-able actors from New Zealand and Australia to play multiple roles in earlier and later seasons of the show from 2003-2011. That's how versatile all of those actors were back then and also, confusing and downright insulting as to why Saban didn't even bothered to get in contact with fans in New Zealand and Australia to look for them and make several guest appearances in Super Megaforce because of sheer laziness. Seriously, all of these actors were very versatile for this franchise.
I'm sorry for my outburst. But, I'm dead serious, man. You can not just acknowledge that this show has been going on for over 20 years at this point, and act like you don't recognize certain actors who have been known for playing multiple roles in earlier and later seasons for the franchise. For example, Grant MacFarland (Sensei Kanoi Watanabe & Lothor) from Ninja Storm, was also Daisuke in the episode, "The Tangent Gate" from Samurai/Super Samurai, Holly Shannon (Camile) from Jungle Fury was also Leelee Pimvare from Mystic Force, James Gaylyn (Col. Mason Truman) from RPM, was also the voices of Zeltrax and Golden Rod from Dino Thunder, and was the past sensei of the Wind Ninja Academy in "Samurai's Journey" from Ninja Storm and most recently, Shelby's father in Dino Charge/Dino Supercharge. And Rene Naufahu (Mentor Jii) from Samurai/Super Samurai was also Emperor Grummn from SPD. See?! Instead of just acting like you're the only one who doesn't know that certain characters were played by the same actor. You should be looking for this person up and if you're lucky, you should tell this person..."Thank you for all the hard work that you did for making this character be a part of my childhood!"
+Neo-Xgray87 Does it really matter if he recognizes certain actors or not, since he just asked a question about one actor, and then you gave him a list of characters with their actors?
I've found it funny how when the A and B Squads morph the morphing grid never backfired or something cause of they have 2 of the same colored ranger powers at the same time.
So, fun fact. In the original Sentai, broodwing was the main villain. And grum was a custom character for PR, you can tell from how different the textures of grum and other villains are for the suits
in a series im working on, my character has a power kinda contradicts his views, he has a power I call Heart Reading, its like Bridges power, how it contradicts is because he grew up being picked on allot and nobody helped him, so he always saw everyone as evil in one way or another
I like what you have ,in my opionion, purposely done. The Phases like they are the b squad good but not the best but good. Reminds me Bridge, especially in his focus episode with the flower girl and T - Top.
Where I do agree that Sam did not really have much character development I would argue to say in the beginning of his arrivals the Omega Ranger he was stubborn and unwilling to help with the Rangers and then came to his senses and realizes that he needs the Rangers that help them I do agree that he doesn't have much after that and that's where you're right I just want the app that as well
Trivia The A-Squad Rangers are the second Ranger characters after Power Ranger's Lightspeed Rescue's Titanium Ranger to be of American design with no Super Sentai counterparts and are the first Ranger team to be wholly American-made. Their Megazord is based on the final giant robot used in the final episodes of Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, which was piloted by an alien criminal in that version. Future US-only Ranger teams include Jungle Fury's Spirit Rangers (who started evil but became good) and the Hyperforce Rangers.
Probably merchandising. Given that girls usually go for their Disney Princess line they need more things to try and sell to boys. They probably thought a female red ranger (the colour most if not all boys want to be being that its the leader colour) would put them off buying stuff.
+Santoryu90 And yet, it was SPD that actually introduced the idea of having a first-ever female Red Ranger in not only Power Rangers History, but also in Super Sentai History as well. So yeah, major kudos to Executive Producers Bruce Kalish and Greg Aronowitz on that idea!!!
and the thunder strike to Piggy's food truck could be attributed (or contributed) to the interference of the Morphing Grid. it saw goodness in him somewhere and that he was the B Squad's only hope.

I fucking loved SPD. Some of the best Ranger Designs by far.
Is it sad that Boom made a better sixth ranger than the actual sixth ranger this season?
xanderman1201 spd's sixth ranger was a ball of light. Nuff said
Mandla Thusi
exactly.
You can thank Disney for that. They cut the budget and said "no more new characters/actors" so.... ball of light it was!
I also felt they could have made Boom as the Green Ranger at the end when Sky was promoted to Red, Bridge promoted to Blue, so the Green Ranger spot is vacant.
With a few tweaks to his character, Boom could've easily worked as the Omega Ranger.
I'm with Boom, I'd be psyched to be a Ranger no matter what color the uniform was. XD
Keelan Barron go go poop ranger!
+Keelan Barron (the Game Detective) Boom actually wanted to be the Orange Ranger in his dream
Actually, from what I've seen, the suit modifies itself to the person's gender.
Hey boom wouldn’t mind being the pink ranger
PROGRESS
@@434444334 hey if I got to be a hero and help save the world out me in Bright pink I couldn't care less
I still don't see why many didn't like this season, it is by far one of my favorites, even when I look past the fact that it is a childhood favorite.
Samurai sentai shinkenger and power ranger samurai had female red ranger.
Thomas Tiger Did you not read what I wrote? That's what I just already said.
ECKohns Not true. The Sentai Yellow ranger counterparts from Lost Galaxy to Wild Force were also men.
ECKohns with the exception of SPD (because neither girls wore a skirt) if a yellow ranger isn't wearing a skirt the Super Sentai counterpart was a boy
I loved SPD. It was totally badass and my personal favorite Power Rangers season growing up.
Krueger be like "time force" never heard of it. Lol I would've loved to see that team up
I thought it was awesome that they re-used the "In Space" helmets for A squad
26:37 ever notice how z's necklace charm looks exactly like the top of lord zedd's staff... interesting
I completely forgot about Boom's speech. That was damn good!
I really like this series. I found the Ranger outfits to be pretty neat in terms of design, and the whole aspect of A Squad going bad was nice. Especially if one considers that the previously 'bad' Rangers were always brainwashed. It was a nice change.
Bruce Kalish also wanted the SPD Red Ranger to be a woman, but the executives wouldn't have it.
0:54 Maybe that impersonation of Tommy will be useful whenever the Abaranger 20th gets adapted. Plus It's just like Dino Thunder, he only appears morphed for a good chunk of it!
R.I.P. Jason David Frank
I love Boom's speech. It hits a theme that always gets me.
They should've made Boom the new blue ranger once Sky became the red ranger. That would have been a cool little nod while they met Jack at the very end.
My head cannon had Boom become the new green ranger
KidSnivy69 Why is there a cannon in your head?
Jake Starr
funny
KidSnivy69 I try.
His speech alone earned him a morpher in my opinion.
PR team: what about a teamup?
Disney: But you already had a team up!
PR team: no no no, what about SEHKUND teamup?
1:01- the actor who did Tommy's voice work was Jeffrey Parazzo
AKA Trent’s actor.
Hi I am James

Thank You Again For Making and Posting These Reviews.
God Bless!!!!!
I know he's a Alien
But why is A squad Blue ranger a mute?
Bardo Fett considering how much screentime they gave to A squad's members, I don't think that it really mattered if he was mute. plus, if he would've head dialoge, it would've probably been something about how B squad sucks...
I suppose you could argue maybe his species don't have an oral language like humans?
Just because we never see him talk doesn't make him a mute you idiot
Just because we didn't see him talk doesn't mean he isn't mute you prick.
SPD is my favorite season, not to say that it's the best, that title is owned by In Space
As Doggy Kreuger takes his place alongside Dirty Harry and John McClane in the pantheon of badass cop one-liners.
it may be the first time a girl is red but not the first they were in the leadership position.
delphine from alien rangers was the white ranger and in charge and although they may have only been stand ins Jen from time force and Taylor (I think that's her name) from wild force were leaders also.
I agree. I remember this was the first Power Rangers series I watched & even today I'm surprised at how well it holds up.
*Camille!!!!*
Oh and BTW, yes, the "Z" on Z's necklace does look a lot like the "Z" on Lord Zedd's staff. Probably a good Easter egg nod to season 2 to in Space. I'm just sayin'!!
Boom should've become the new green ranger
Well, according to Matt Austin (Bridge) during a SPD 10 Year Reunion Q&A Panel, he did stated that Boom and Sophie were later added to the B-Squad as the new green and blue rangers. So, that's good news.
Did he really? That's awesome
Rishabh Das Yes, he did. So...it's all good.
Neo-Xgray87 I thought they would join, albeit with Sophie as the green ranger.
pokehunterhd In an imnterview with Matt Austin, he was asked who would be on his team after he became the Red Ranger. He stated that he considers that after Bridge was promoted to Red Ranger, S.O.P.H.I.E became the Blue Ranger.[1] This has since been proven to be false, as Lina Song becomes the Blue Ranger when Bridge gets promoted.
It would mean a lot if you guys could check out my review on the S.P.D Dino Thunder team up episodes: ua-cam.com/video/-OjiMPdeGW0/v-deo.html
“As the seasons begin to get shorter” and as your videos begin to get WAY longer
Boom's speech is the stuff of legend. He should have been allowed to be the new pink ranger.
SPD Best Season ever my Fav.
"The carter grayson method" i love it!
Brandon Jay Mclaren was a real one.
Hes been great in everything I've seen him in
You know, Cat being 137 years old in cat years means that she is in her 20s-30s in human years. I wonder if that was what they were going with
Probably
Connection? Kruger’s weapon looks like a spiral Sabre. And they utilize the space helmets... interesting
Ironically, Kelson Henderson did become a Ranger in Ninja Steel.
What if piggy was the true villain cause he is playing all 3 sides. He kept the rangers cause he's trying to get rid of the competition without revealing himself.
Well, I'm still on Lightspeed Rescue...
"Now they match!"
Nice.
Kruger reminds me of tommy in ranger mentor only tommy got more development since it's tommy, probably the most popular ranger ever
the best part...go go power sexism....no one really expected that
Anyone else wondering when this guy is gonna actually re release the videos properly
this is one of my two favourite seasons
my god the line carter grayson school its killing me every time he says that i cant stop laughing
"B-squad rules!"
Booms speach about staying always tears me up
I wish boom actually became a S.P.D. ranger
I really wished they made the A-squad pretending to be good a little bit more like showing off their talents and experience to make the B-squad really feel like B-squad
Part 1 and part 2 would be nice.
The first time I saw Emperor Grumm, he legit terrified me. But looking back, I no longer see him as scary but a really badass villain.
My favourite character in spy is SKY!
He is by far my favorite Blue Ranger, Sky, S.P.D. Blue Ranger.
It's a good touch that Jack wears white when he leaves SPD
Is it just me, Or does Sky's friend Drew, [shown in the character portion] look like Tyzon from overdrive?
Sorry.
Richard Smith Apology accepted.
+Neo-Xgray87 Does it really matter if he recognizes certain actors or not, since he just asked a question about one actor, and then you gave him a list of characters with their actors?
this is my little brother watching power ranger and he is your biggest fan of you
I've found it funny how when the A and B Squads morph the morphing grid never backfired or something cause of they have 2 of the same colored ranger powers at the same time.
Because the suits are different.
By that logic, every team up should have had massive problems staying morphed
If he things 9 rangers is alot, just wait untill Kyuranger is adapted.
Ohhhh this didn't age well lol
So, fun fact. In the original Sentai, broodwing was the main villain. And grum was a custom character for PR, you can tell from how different the textures of grum and other villains are for the suits
where part 1 and 2
in a series im working on, my character has a power kinda contradicts his views, he has a power I call Heart Reading, its like Bridges power, how it contradicts is because he grew up being picked on allot and nobody helped him, so he always saw everyone as evil in one way or another
Andrew Viewtieful Tachibana The TimeForce Green ranger has that ability
Hey the woman jack goes off to work with is the same one who plays Tyzones GF
Best season imo, then lightspeed and then in space (bar the turtles episodes lol but they made me chuckle) . They just felt balanced through out.
At least Boom becomes a red ranger in Ninja Steel.
He does?
I think it would be a great idea to actually have an orange ranger for a power ranger team
I love his speech about the A-Squad vs the B-Squad.
What does the SPD A-Squad and Alec Trevelyan have in common? Play dead, betray their allies and create chaos behind the backs of their former allies
Funny note they were the only power rangers that cussed behind the scenes lol
12:32 may be Boom's best moment.
I like what you have ,in my opionion, purposely done. The Phases like they are the b squad good but not the best but good. Reminds me Bridge, especially in his focus episode with the flower girl and T - Top.
Where I do agree that Sam did not really have much character development I would argue to say in the beginning of his arrivals the Omega Ranger he was stubborn and unwilling to help with the Rangers and then came to his senses and realizes that he needs the Rangers that help them I do agree that he doesn't have much after that and that's where you're right I just want the app that as well
Notice that the footsoldiers here of the blue and orange heads were similar to the crystals from time force that messed with the timeline.
Trivia
The A-Squad Rangers are the second Ranger characters after Power Ranger's Lightspeed Rescue's Titanium Ranger to be of American design with no Super Sentai counterparts and are the first Ranger team to be wholly American-made.
So Disney like to create these "strong" women and they don't like the idea having a female Red Ranger.
Probably merchandising. Given that girls usually go for their Disney Princess line they need more things to try and sell to boys. They probably thought a female red ranger (the colour most if not all boys want to be being that its the leader colour) would put them off buying stuff.
Well the Sentai never had a female red ranger and the Sentai for samurai doesn't count
a female red ranger will ruined the franchise
+Yahiko25 A Team's red ranger is female.
This was my era of power rangers.
and the thunder strike to Piggy's food truck could be attributed (or contributed) to the interference of the Morphing Grid. it saw goodness in him somewhere and that he was the B Squad's only hope.
