If thread or debris gets pulled behind the handwheel, it can lodge around shaft behind the handwheel collar / bushing. This can greatly slow down your Featherweight causing undue stress on the motor. The handwheel collar is actually pretty difficult to remove and damage often occurs when doing so with improper tools. Hi Carmon, I am looking for the tutorial on how to remove and replace the stitchplate on the 221 can you direct me please? I did see one but it didn't show the actual removal of the plate - I think it was in the process of doing something else. I think I may need to undo a screw under the handwheel? Is there a specific tutorial for replacing the plate - my machine has the plain chrome one which is hard to see stitch length accurately. Thanks for your fantastic video tutorials!

Your engineered tool is similar to a crank removal tool that bicycle mechanics use to pull square tapered cranks. Is your tool made using a stop motion knob? Thanks for the videos. My wife has recently got a couple of 221's and wants me to help with maintenance. In my retirement I fix bikes and now started working on vintage sewing machines.
